FOD: Xue Zi Xuan 2.5

Edit: For some reason there are some really angry people who think this is fanfiction instead of a translation. There is a link to the Chinese raws in the title page… 😓(─.─||)

This is a side story that Feng Liu Shu Dai, the original author, wrote because of how popular Xue Zi Xuan’s character was in the main story. This is the author’s summary of the side story [translated]:

“Don’t know if all of you still remember or not, in Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil’s ending, Zhou Yun Sheng repaired and saved the database that was destroyed by the Lord God. This story happens in the virtual world re-built by Zhou Yun Sheng. Xue Zi Xuan vs villain Zhou Yun Sheng can be seen as a new story, a villain counterattack x slag gong rebirth text, a clear-cut HE. And what Xue Zi Xuan loves is Zhou Yun Sheng the person, the soul, and has nothing to do with whether he can play the piano or not.” [Summary also available on the title page.]

Aw, what the heck, here’s the Chinese text too. Copied and pasted, by the way:
《薛子軒》的掃雷試閱:不知道大家還記不記得,打臉狂魔結局時,
周周把主神摧毀的數據庫修復並保存了,
故事就發生在周周重新建立的虛擬世界裡。
薛子軒vs反派周周,可以當做一個新的故事來看,反派逆襲渣攻重生文,爽文he。
以及薛子軒愛的是周周這個人,這個靈魂,跟他會不會彈鋼琴完全沒有任何關系。

Chapter 2.5 – Breeding Hate

“If you touch the piano again, I will break your hands.” With that sentence, Xue Zi Xuan walked away.

“Why?” Zhou Yun Sheng gritted his teeth and asked. His ten fingers were uncontrollably trembling because of the pain.

“The sound of your piano is like the walking dead with no soul.” When he said this sentence, the loathing was clear in his tone of voice.

The door of the room slammed with a bang, and silence rang loud in the piano room. Zhou Yun Sheng stood up and furrowed his eyebrows at his red and swollen fingers. His face was pale and white.

Xue Jing Yi, who was crackling with anger before, let out a silver bell-like laugh. Her slightly curved eyes were full of joy. She said slowly, “I remember warning you before, don’t enter the piano room, otherwise I’ll have Mom and Dad send you away. But forget it. Seeing that my brother has taught you a lesion, I’ll forgive you this time. There is no soul? Like the walking dead? How do you do it? That is the worst evaluation I have ever heard.”

She was very happy. All of her restless fears were relieved when she saw her brother almost crushing the youth’s phalanges. It was as if she had been waiting for this scene for a long time. Genius? Humph.

Zhou Yun Sheng did not respond to her satire and left in a hurry. Going back to his room, he heard the system announcing the completion of his task, but this did not extinguish the anger in his heart. Instead, he let out a fierce laugh.

“You predicted this situation long ago, isn’t that right? I am the villain. My role is to be repeatedly stuck down by the protagonist? F*ck. In what way was my piano playing bad?” He turned on the computer and used the software to play Early Morning. Resisting the pain of his fingers he said, “Look at this fingering technique, look at the pitch, look at the rhythm. This is perfection. This is the height of technical skills. It is superb! Where is it not good? What are you talking about? There is no soul? Walking dead? Tch. You don’t even understand perfection when you hear it!”
Translations by Vanilla Muse
It was impossible for the system to give any response. Zhou Yun Sheng cursed for a while and then calmed down. He was preparing to sleep when Fu Bo pushed open his door with a taut face.

“I heard that you broke into the piano room today and angered the young master?” He was full of disdain and disgust, and warned coldly, “You can go anywhere in this house, but you can’t enter the piano room. If you commit another blunder, I will tell the mister and missus, and have you sent back to the countryside.”

This one and that one, they’re all using that sentence to threaten me. If you can then send me back now. That is exactly what this lao zi* wants! But do you dare? If you don’t dare then stop grumbling like a motherf*cker! Zhou Yun Sheng sneered in his heart. But he assumed a timid expression on his face, shrinking in the corner of the bed and did not dare to move, as if he was really scared.

[*Muse: 老子 lao zi: An exalted way of referring to oneself. “I, your father” (said in anger or out of contempt)]

Comparing the conditions of the Xue family and Xiao Liu Village, one was like the sky and the other was like the earth. Even living as a dog in the Xue family was better than living in Xiao Liu Village. Fu Bo used his own prejudices to measure the other, and thought that the youth must be reluctant to leave. Seeing that he knew his place and was afraid, he threw a medicine box over. “Tend to yourself, I don’t have time.”

Zhou Yun Sheng nodded. He took out the ointment and applied it on his red and swollen fingers. The knuckles could still move. It seemed to not be broken, but he didn’t know if the bones were cracked. Unless the Xue family was willing to take him to the hospital to have an X-ray done. But he already knew that it was impossible. Never mind breaking ten fingers, even if his limbs were wasted, as long as the heart was whole and hale, they would not care.

Abnormal! Bastards! He silently cursed Xue Zi Xuan in his heart hundreds of times, and then he cursed the Xue family and their ancestors.

From that day on, Fu Bo dispatched the assistant to follow Zhou Yun Sheng and then reported his every move to Xue Rui. Unauthorized touch of the piano made the Xue family resentful of him. Xue Li Dan Ni strictly forbade her daughter from contacting the teenager, saying that he was undisciplined, and that his hands and feet were dirty*.

[*Muse: 手脚不干净: light-fingered / prone to stealing]

Of course, those were just excuses. What she was worried about was that her daughter would cultivate positive feelings with her twin brother after spending days and nights together. In the future, his inexplicable disappearance would provoke her daughter to be sad. If her daughter had not eavesdropped on her husband’s conversation and demanded that her brother be brought back to the manor to be cared for, then they were originally planning to put him under house arrest some place else, and then bring him back only when it was time for the operation.

Xue Jing Yi was resistant on the surface, pretending to be protecting her brother, but she was secretly happy on the inside. She felt that she had found a way to drive the boy out of the family. She could make her parents and brother hate him more and more, until they couldn’t bear him anymore. As for how to go about doing that, she didn’t yet have a clue.

Zhou Yun Sheng clearly felt the Xue family’s attitude towards him change. They regarded him as a vessel, as a moving heart, as a white lab rat, just not as human. Xue Zi Xuan didn’t even want to eat at the same table with him, so they had Fu Bo send his meals to his room.
Translations by Vanilla Muse
His hair was growing longer and longer. His clothes were getting more and more feminine. And his long-term house arrest had caused his skin to become morbidly pale. He was practically like a second Xue Jing Yi. The family doctor began to visit the Xue manor frequently, and used a combination of Chinese and Western medicine to regulate Xue Jing Yi’s body.

The brother and sister pair was of the Mumbai blood type. In the whole of China, only forty people have the same blood type. As one could well imagine, it was very hard to find a suitable heart donor. Because of the difficulty of the task, Xue Li Dan Ni agreed with her husband to look in the northwest for their daughter’s relatives. As expected, all of her immediate family members were already dead. There was only one twin brother remaining in the world.

A twin brother, orphan, same blood type, a healthy heart, humble origins… Every label indicated a possibility of their daughter’s full recovery. The dawn of hope suddenly appeared, so how could the couple be willing to miss this chance. Naturally they had him brought back and actively nursed their daughter’s body. To prevent having more nightmares in a long night*, it was better to take this heart out as soon as possible.

[*Muse: 夜长梦多 “long night, more dreams” means the longer they drag things out, the more problems are likely to crop up in the interval]

Likewise, Zhou Yun Sheng also received a daily checkup, to ensure that his body was in good health. Seeing the crude way he wrapped his fingers, the family doctor patiently helped him unravel the bandages and re-bandage his fingers, but he did not mention performing an x-ray. As long as there was no problem with the heart then it didn’t matter what happened to his hands and feet. Anyways, he was going to die soon.

Xue Zi Xuan was very busy recently, often not returning home. In addition, the influx of strangers coming and going from his house made him extremely uncomfortable, thus another reason for his absence from the house. Half a month later there was a very important musical performance, so he was rehearsing with the orchestra’s colleagues.

“OK, there is no problem this time. Try not to use the metronome next time.” The conductor waved his hand and disbanded the orchestra members.

Xue Zi Xuan stood up from the piano, took two steps, and suddenly fainted onto the floor.

“Ah, this is not good, Mr. Xue fainted. Quickly, quickly, dial 120.” The people rushed to crowd around him, but no one dared to touch him. Then they all frantically dialed the emergency number one after the other.

The Xue family received the news that Xue Zi Xuan had fallen into a coma for two hours and had yet to show any signs of waking. The doctor did a thorough examination on him and found no abnormalities. He had to stay in the hospital for observation.

Xue Li Dan Ni was out of the country. Xue Rui hastily rushed home to pack some clothes and daily necessities. When he talked to Fu Bo, he forgot to suppress his voice, so his daughter overheard. Xue Jing Yi almost fainted, crying and shouting to go to the hospital together.

Zhou Yun Sheng’s fingers were still swollen. He couldn’t play games and he couldn’t program. So he pulled up a movie to watch. Just as he was getting engrossed in the plot, he heard the ruckus from downstairs. He didn’t want to bother with it at first, but then he heard Xue Jing Yi’s miserable cries and opened the door to take a look with a heart full of schadenfreude.

“Uncle Xue, what happened?” He stood at the mouth of the stairs and wore a troubled look.

“Nothing much. Return to your room, ba.” Xue Rui forced a smile. Xue Jing Yi also stopped crying noisily and silently wiped her tears.

Zhou Yun Sheng tactfully returned to the room. He stood by the door and eavesdropped for a while, upon which he learned that Xue Zu Xuan was in a coma and lying in the hospital.

“F*cking bastard. Serves you right.” He narrowed his eyes and smiled darkly.

Chapter 1.6 – A Sudden Visit

Up until now, none of the people that he had seen so far had sincerely welcomed him. Xue Li Dan Ni probably just thought that he was a country bumpkin, and didn’t bother at all disguising the calculations in her eyes. And his biological twin sister, Xue Jing Yi, inexplicably hated him. On the contrary, Xue Zi Xuan was neither hot nor cold, near nor far, his attitude of merely taking it that Zhou Yun Sheng didn’t exist made him feel more comfortable.

What did you take me for? A fool? Not even willing to hide your many suspicious actions*? He picked up a handful of cold water and poured it on his face, casually recalling every detail that happened when they met.

[*T/N: suspicious actions – 猫腻 fishy occurrences]

Forgot to mention, not only did Zhou Yun Sheng have high intelligence, but he also had a photographic memory, as long as he closed his eyes, everything that happened in the living room would come to mind clearly, and not even a small detail would be missed. Skipping over Xue Li Dan Ni and Xue Zi Xuan, Xue Jing Yi was a little strange. Her lips were white, her nails slightly purple, her breathing was short, and she seemed very weak. A young woman and the housekeeper stood at the door of the living room and constantly kept an eye on her situation as if worried about her. A medical kit was placed on the antique shelf not far away, within arms reach.

From this, he could tell that there was definitely something wrong with her body. Leukemia? Heart disease? Or something else? This just so happened to explain why the Xue family brought him to the capital city in such a hurry, he really did have something they needed, or more accurately, organs.

Thinking of this, Zhou Yun Sheng smiled coldly. Having seen too many evil plots and internal strife, he was accustomed to using the most sinister angles to guess other’s intentions, and reality has proven, that he was always right.

What’s more, now he has a villain system, the risk factor was multiplied by many more times, even if trouble did not find him, he would have to take the initiative to find trouble. Providing organs for his twin sister, although this type of scenario was full of dog blood*, but the chances of such an occurrence were as high as seventy or eighty percent.

[*T/N: dog blood – slang for cliché and overly dramatic]

The question now was, what did they need from him? Bone marrow? Kidney? Liver? Or his heart? The first few could still be negotiated, the latter however, was his life. Zhou Yun Sheng’s face turned dark, his gaze cold, already realizing exactly what kind of hell* he was in.

[*T/N: hell – more specifically 修罗场, 修罗 is Asura, but the entire thing means something like a vicious battlefield or place where you fight for your life (typically alone)]

He stared at the system on his wrist, he really wanted to ruin this thing, and just let everyone die together. A line of words was displayed on the screen, which was the previously released task, as long as he looked down he could see it. It reminded him not to think about escaping, otherwise, his only end was to be obliterated, his soul crushed.

One day, I want the Lord God to personally experience the taste of being killed. He squinted his eyes and sneered, ripping off the towel on the washstand and slowly walked out of the door.

The housekeeper saw that he was clean and nodded. “Go on, everyone is waiting for you to eat, and the master is back. One thing you must heed, and that is the young master has very serious OCD, so it’s best for you to pay attention to your appearance, what you have worn today, you can’t wear again tomorrow. The most important thing is, don’t touch the young master randomly, he can’t stand it.”

“But my sister held him and he didn’t react at all,” Zhou Yun Sheng said with grievance.

“You are not the same as the young lady.” But where it was different, Fu Bo did not say. He was too impatient to bother with a dying person, and even more would not give any extra sympathy.

Yes, I am the mud on the ground, Xue Jing Yi is the clouds in the sky. The clouds are always pure and beautiful, not to be dirtied, but the mud is to be trampled on by others. If I can resist this system one day, I will definitely make sure that there will be a day when I will make you taste the taste of being trampled on at other’s pleasure. Zhou Yun Sheng lowered his head and used his thick bangs to cover the killing intent in his eyes.

The housekeeper took him to the dining room; a middle-aged man with a rich appearance was already seated in the main position, obviously the head of the Xue family. He had just come back, the jacket of his suit was hung on the back of his chair, the sleeves of his shirt were rolled up halfway, his hair was slightly messy, and his kind smile and informal manner were completely different from the other three proud and rigid members of the Xue family, easily attracting other’s good feelings.

“This is Xiao Yi? You and Jing Yi really look alike. And even though the two of you lived so far apart, yet your names have similar pronunciation, it is indeed fate. Come come, have a seat. I’m Xue Rui, Jing Yi’s adoptive father, you can call me Uncle Xue in the future. Don’t be so reserved, take this place as your own home, whatever you want to eat, eat, look you’re so skinny, from now on you need to properly nourish yourself.” While speaking, he pulled the boy to the empty chair by his side, frequently putting food into his bowl, his warm demeanor really made people feel quite welcomed.

If the other three members of the Xue family were like the unattainable Tian Shan Mountain Snow Lotus, then Xue Rui was the smiling Buddha who was friendly and approachable. After being schemed against, and yet couldn’t receive good attitude, Zhou Yun Sheng heart after all was choked with resentment, only after seeing Xue Rui that his heart returned to normal.

He smiled awkwardly, and quickly called Xue Rui uncle, before gulping down his food.

Chapter 1.5 – A Sudden Visit

They were clearly non-identical twins, but the two of them looked 80-90% the same, only their eyes and eyebrows were slightly different. The young girl’s eyebrows were thin and slightly curved, looking very delicate, while her eyes were monolid phoenix eyes, seeming rather restrained. However, the youth’s eyebrows were straight like swords and full of energy, his pair of peach blossom eyes seemed to reflect the gleaming waves in the sunlight, capturing one’s heart, no matter how much it was hidden, it still couldn’t cover up its splendor.

However, the two red circles on his cheeks and his coarse yellow skin instantly eclipsed the youth’s exquisite and perfect appearance, and his stiff gestures made him seem even more out of place.

The girl blankly looked at him for a while, although she tried to cover it up, but her expression of excitement faded a lot, and her eyes seemed to contain faint disgust and hate. When she heard that her twin brother had come home, she had originally really looked forward to it, however, when she first looked at him, somehow she suddenly felt very scared, very fearful, but even more gushes of hate rushed into her heart, nearly making her lose her composure.

She forcefully held on to her brother’s arm, like the hold of a drowning man holding on to a piece of driftwood. A thought came to her mind inexplicably, telling her that this person might take away everything she had, her family, friends, lover, and even her life.

Drive him away! Hurry up and drive him away! She screamed wildly in her heart, but she also knew that this emotion came too strangely, so she still repressed it. She thought it was well concealed, but the handsome man had already sensed her uneasiness, reaching out to gently pat her thin shoulders.

Zhou Yun Sheng noticed her fear and hatred towards him at first glance and started secretly pondering about it.

The atmosphere in the living room became awkward, but just at that moment, a middle-aged woman in traditional Chinese clothing walked down the spiral staircase and said softly, “This is the brother of Jing Yi? You look really alike.”

“Hello, I am Huang Yi.” Zhou Yun Sheng quietly introduced himself.

“Sit down.” The woman walked into the living room, kissed the girl’s cheek, wanted to kiss the man, but was avoided by the other. She could only sadly shrug her shoulders before asking the housekeeper to serve the tea.

“I am Xue Li Dan Ni, the hostess of this family, you can call me Auntie Xue. This is Xue Jing Yi. From her looks, you can probably tell that she is your sister. Right, who was born first?” The woman personally pours tea for the boy, however her seemingly enthusiastic move hid a lot of carelessness. Her education was such that no matter who she was facing, or no matter how disdainful she was, she would not be impolite.

“I am also not sure, but I really want to have a younger sister, I will definitely take good care of her.” Zhou Yun Sheng forcefully turned his face away, performing the part of a lonely boy who longed for his loved ones beautifully.

“Alright, you will be the elder brother, and Jing Yi will be the younger sister.” The woman covered her mouth and laughed, pointing to the handsome man to continue the introduction. “This is Xue Zi Xuan, my son, you can call him ‘ge ge.’ We heard that you have no relatives, so we plan to adopt you. Will you stay with Jing Yi as a companion? She missed you a lot.”

Zhou Yun Sheng bowed his head and said nothing for a long time. Xiao Liu Village lacked water, and he was unable to bathe often, what more a hairdresser to tidy his hair. If anyone felt that their hair was in the way, they would use a scissors to randomly cut it, so not only was his hair messy, but also neither long or short, tightly concealing his head, causing no expression to be seen.

The woman had prepared to sit next to him, sincerely persuading him to stay, but he suddenly looked up, revealing a pair of red, tearful eyes.

“Thank you, Auntie Xue. I, I thought I had no more relatives left, that I would be alone in the future. Now I suddenly have a sister, a family, I’m really very happy. Thank you, you are all good people…” He started whimpering, causing it to be difficult to continue, so he lowered his head again to cover his lost composure.

Xue Li Dan Ni had long guessed the reaction of the youth, but she was too lazy to waste her feelings to comfort him, and gave the housekeeper a look. The housekeeper walked forward before taking the teenager back to his room to wash his face.

Xue Jing Yi and Xue Zi Xuan did not say a word of welcome from beginning to the end. The former was struggling inside while the latter coldly looked on. After the youth left, Xue Jing Yi screamed: “Mom, I didn’t expect my brother to be like this, I really can’t accept him now, I am not prepared to recognize him yet. For the past ten years, I always thought that I was your biological daughter. Mom, I’m very depressed, very scared.” So can you send him away? But in the end, she still resisted saying the last sentence, not wanting her adoptive parents and brother to think that she was a person who disregards familial love.

“Jing Yi, we brought him home for your own good, you must not let your imagination run wild. Whether or not you are my biological daughter doesn’t matter, you will always be my most beloved daughter, this will never change. I love you.” Xue Li Dan Ni quickly took her daughter into her arms and soothingly patted her.

Xue Zi Xuan, who was so cold that he almost did not seem human, also showed a caring expression at this time, stroking his sister’s smooth hair and silently comforted her.

Zhou Yun Sheng walked back to his room with a hunched back, closed the door of the bathroom, and then looked up. His face did not have a single bit of his previous touched expression, just cold sarcasm.

Chapter 1.4 – A Sudden Visit

“Xue family?” Zhou Yun Sheng softly asked, “My sister’s surname is Xue? What is her name? Where is she now?”

The housekeeper seemed to be very dissatisfied with his many questions, replying coldly, “When you have cleaned yourself up, you may see the young mistress. Do you know how to use the bathroom equipment? If you don’t, I can teach you.”

Zhou Yun Sheng knew that they had already investigated him very clearly, so he shook his head with a red face. Xiao Liu Village didn’t even have tap water, having three hot showers a month was already a luxury, how could he have possibly seen modern bathroom equipment before?

In the eyes of Fu Bo, there was a trace of contempt. He walked into the bathroom, demonstrated how to use the various equipment to him, then took out a casual set of clothes from the closet, before saying, “The Madam has prepared clothes for the four seasons for you. You can’t use anything you brought with you, I’ve had people throw them away.”

Throwing my things away just like that, do you know how to respect others? Who the hell do you think you are? Zhou Yun Sheng was very annoyed in his heart, but his face had a timid expression, seeming to have nodded embarrassedly. Fu Bo was very satisfied with his attitude; he closed the door and left quickly.

When the footsteps went away,  Zhou Yun Sheng swept away his long bangs, raised his eyebrows and smiled ironically. His hunched back instantly turned straight, the humbleness on his face faded, and his respectful and weak movements became careless and arrogant. He paced around the room, looked here and there, before shaking his head, “This room is furnished like a hotel suite, it seems like the host doesn’t want to waste too much time on me, nor is intending for me to stay for a long time. I am a poor child. What benefits can I bring to them? That sum of compensation?”

When he said this, he sneered. How could someone who spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy a luxury villa care about a compensation of 70,000 yuan? It was utterly ridiculous. There must be a deeper reason.

He started humming as he rummaged around the room but didn’t find what he needed the most– a laptop.

In his original world, he was a hacker, a world-class one. Just give him a computer and a network signal receiver, and he would be able to go to heaven or hell, or create clouds with one hand and rain with the other*. Although this world’s technological development was not comparable to the interstellar era he lived in, computers have long become universal. If you were sincerely adopting a child, how could you ignore this most basic configuration (the laptop) when preparing a room for him?

[*T/N: Go to heaven or hell, or create clouds with one hand and rain with the other – “上天入地,翻云覆雨” very powerful, being able to do many remarkable or unimaginable things]

Therefore, Zhou Yun Sheng could tell at a glance that this family’s purpose for adopting him was not to treat him kindly, but for other benefits. If he had a computer now, he could go online, and according to the current address and a “Xue” surname, check the bottom line of this family inside out.

“Forget it, so what if I find out, anyways I would still have to run towards death. The only fun in living here is probably just to give some trouble to the son of fate from time to time.” Zhou Yun Sheng mockingly laughed at himself, gave up on searching, and went to take a shower.

I have lived in the sandy desert for ten years, have eaten enough coarse flour, slept enough on hard soil, and now finally can live in this splendid villa for a while, it seems pretty good. His mind was very determined, and even if he fell to the point where he could be slaughtered freely, he would never admit defeat. He has been trying to break the control of the system. If he couldn’t do it this time, he could do it the next time, if he couldn’t do it next time, then he could try again next time. He believed that one day, he could crush the so-called Lord God under his feet.

The Lord God would probably know that his codename in the real world was Deicide, the mortal who kills gods. The question of who was the real winner of this game was still inconclusive. He covered his face with a wet handkerchief and laughed quietly.

An hour later, the housekeeper came to knock on the door, with a dissatisfied expression on his face, thinking that as a guest, the time Zhou Yun Sheng took to take a bath was even longer than that of the young master with OCD, making the madam, young master, and young miss sit in the living room to wait for him, really didn’t know any manners.

“Fu Bo, this set of clothes seems to be for girls.” Zhou Yun Sheng opened the door and tugged on the set of casual white clothes on his body. Don’t think that because he was from a remote village he was easy to trick. These overly tight pants, the waist hugging top, and the small flowers on the sleeves, only girls would dress like this.

Fu Bo’s face remained unchanged, perhaps thinking that Zhou Yun Sheng did not go out for a long time because his clothes were too feminine, the dissatisfaction in his heart slightly reduced. He seriously explained, “This type of clothing is meant for both men and women. You and young miss are biological siblings, the madam says that by wearing the same style of clothing, both of you would seem more like relatives. Now androgynous clothing is popular, everyone dresses like this, you don’t need to be bothered by it.”

“Is it?” Zhou Yun Sheng was dubious, clutching the hem of his clothes while following Fu Bo downstairs.

The handsome man had long been waiting in the living room. Whether he was standing, sitting, or walking, his back was always straight, his hands placed over each other, naturally placed on his knees, his posture and appearance seeming as perfect as a statue. Hearing the footsteps, he looked over, his dark eyes are calm and without any ripples, neither sad or happy.

A young girl sat beside him, both hands wrapped tightly around his arm. Miraculously, he forgot that he had OCD, being very tolerant of the girl, especially pampering towards her.

This is probably my twin sister? Zhou Yun Sheng playfully* guessed, his eyes looking back and forth on the other’s beautiful face.

[*T/N: playfully – 玩味 a bit sarcastic, kind of like an “oh is that so” attitude]

Chapter 1.3 – A Sudden Visit

“Ai,” Zhou Yun Sheng agreed, before climbing into the car with much trouble.

Due to malnutrition, the development of this body was very slow. Although he was already 16 years old, he was only around 1.6 meters, and his figure was also very slender, as though a gust of wind could blow him away. His cheeks even had two red patches. Overall, an ugly appearance.

Seeing that Zhou Yun Sheng took more than half a day to climb up, and even half rolled in, and afterward started touching here and there, looking extremely curious, the assistant couldn’t help but laugh again, scorn unknowingly leaking from his eyes.

The handsome man still did not have any reaction, commanding the assistant to quickly start the car. As Xiao Liu Village started to slowly fade into the distance, Zhou Yun Sheng rested against the window, looking at his aunts and uncles who continued to chase after the car, shouting while running, “Yi-Zi, where is the bank book? You’re going to the city where you can enjoy life and won’t need the money, why don’t you leave the bank book behind? Your younger brothers and sisters still need to attend school!”

What school, you’re going to let them go to the port to work next year, even the foreman has already been contacted, did you think I didn’t know? Zhou Yun Sheng was clear in his heart but didn’t expose it, he just waved at his relatives, his smile innocent.

After a few hours drive, they reached the provincial capital where they took a flight, and after one day and one night, they finally reached the capital. The handsome man did not say anything the entire trip. Zhou Yun Sheng wanted to converse with him, to scope out his bottom line, but all his words were diverted away by the assistant. He obviously did not want him to bother the handsome man.

Turns out that I’m an unwelcomed presence, but then why did they travel so far to bring me back? Zhou Yun Sheng wondered to himself, but had already realized that he definitely had something on him that they wanted. They were separated from young, and had not seen each other for more than a decade, these kind of siblings, even if they were blood-related, what kind of feelings could they have towards each other? Once his sister heard of his presence she begged for him to be taken back, but did not even ask a single word about their dead parents, no matter how this situation was looked at, it just seemed strange.

Thinking till this point, Zhou Yun Sheng’s wariness of this family was raised to the maximum, but a second later, it immediately deflated. So what if he was wary about them? With the villain system around, even if it was a sea of fire in front of him, he would still have to bash his way through it, without any room for resistance.

Looking at the neon lights which flew past outside the window, Zhou Yun Sheng quietly sighed. The car passed through the bustling city, into the forested suburbs, through a winding mountain road and finally arrived at a golf course. The handsome man’s home was located in the villa area of the golf course, such a landscape, such a location, this could not be bought with only money.

Zhou Yun Sheng had no choice but to reassess the man’s family background. Not only was he from an influential clan, but he was also from one which was very wealthy. As expected, his twin sister was this world’s protagonist. She was born in such a remote mountain village but could still be adopted by such a prominent family, that type of luck really went against the heavens. However, in order to reduce complications, many people liked to adopt children from remote places, some even adopted abroad, this point was not difficult to understand.

The car bypassed the fountain before steadily stopping at the front door. When Zhou Yun Sheng hopped out of the car, the system released the second task – to integrate into the new family. In other words, it’s to settle his relationship with this family and get their approval. Zhou Yun Sheng immediately showed a look of fear, and walked towards the handsome man step by step, gently holding his hand which was in pure white gloves.

The handsome man obviously didn’t expect the teenager to make such a move. He immediately shrugged him off, using a cold and disgusted tone he clearly said, “You are not allowed to touch me, this is the first rule you must abide by.” (T/N: you’ll regret this later)

Oh, so it turns out I have to follow rules too? Then what exactly do you take me for? A pet? A servant? Or just a tool to achieve your purpose, whatever that is? Zhou Yun Sheng had a deeper understanding of his future. He stepped back two steps, bowed his head, and used his overly long bangs to cover his own cold and hateful expression.

The two walked into the living room, one behind the other, and the assistant followed, holding the baggage.

“Young Master, welcome back. The hot water is already ready. When you’re done washing up, we can have the meal.” A white-haired old man walked to the door with a straight posture to welcome them, his tone very respectful. As he raised his head, he looked at Zhou Yun Sheng, his gaze staying on his chest for a long time (not in a perverted way).

“This is the young miss’s brother?”

“Yes, take him back to his room to clean up, he’s filthy.” The handsome man ordered with a frown.

“Very well, Mr. Huang, please come with me.” The old man beckoned.

Zhou Yun Sheng nodded reservedly, his eyes quickly sweeping the living room, not finding his so-called twin sister. The news that he had arrived today, the assistant had told the family about it as early as when they got off the plane. If they cared about him, they would have definitely waited for him in the living room, or better, stand at the door to welcome him.

But they hadn’t, except for the handsome man, not a single one of this family’s members appeared. And this old man, who seemed to be the housekeeper, the way he looked at him was very strange, not like looking at a living person, but more like the dead. When his gaze lingered on his chest, that bone-chilling feeling made all the hairs on his body instantly stand on end.

What on earth were they planning? Zhou Yun Sheng did not like the feeling of jumping into a trap and being unable to climb out. But with the villain system, he could only accept it, freely letting others oppress him. When will this kind of life end? Thinking of this, a strong feeling of resentment and unwillingness churned in his chest, but he still kept a cautiously humble expression on his face.

The housekeeper led him to a room on the second floor and said, “You will live here from now on, feel free to ask for anything. I am Fu Bo, the Xue family’s housekeeper.”

“Xue family?” Zhou Yun Sheng softly asked, “My sister’s surname is Xue? What is her name? Where is she now?”

Chapter 1.2 – A Sudden Visit

The man was very young, about twenty-five years old, with a height of around 1.88 meters, all he needed to do was tip-toe and he could touch the roof. Hearing the sound, he looked sideways, his pair of narrow phoenix eyes full of melancholy and indifference, the beautiful facial features seemed like a beam of light shining into Zhou Yun Sheng’s eyes, causing him to suddenly understand what is as handsome as a bright room, what is called as beautiful as a jadeite crown*.

[*T/N: What is as handsome as a bright room, what is called as beautiful as a jadeite crown – In Chinese, “什么叫做满室生辉,什么叫做美如冠玉”, the author basically calling the man very very very handsome or pretty. The first one isn’t actually used to describe people so I’m not so sure, the second one can also mean as beautiful as jade.]

Zhou Yun Sheng was frozen on the spot, unconsciously hiding his hands which were covered with flour behind him. He liked men, and this man was precisely his favorite type, noble and elegant, with a unique temperament, gentle like the moonlight, and pleasant like the spring breeze, however, ice cold arrogance was hidden in his pair of indifferent eyes.

Before this, Zhou Yun Sheng had been blown by the cold wind when riding the tractor, so his nose was a little blocked and runny. Zhou Yun Sheng praised the beautiful man in his heart while habitually wiping his nose, when he saw the other person’s gaze turn from indifference to disgust, his heart contracted in fear. No matter what this person came to do, he did not have a good impression of him, so he was most likely a plot character.

As a villain, he would definitely be hostile to most of the plot characters, Zhou Yun Sheng still had this much awareness. He immediately adjusted his thoughts, cracked opened his mouth, and smiled at the man.

The man turned his gaze away and indifferently said, “Take him away.”

“Yes, Mr. Xue.” A middle-aged man nodded his head before stepping forward to explain the situation with a smile.

Only then did Zhou Yun Sheng know that this body also had a twin sister, as his parents were unable to raise her due to her weak body, she was given to a rich couple to be taken care of. The couple was precisely the parents of the handsome young man. Now that his little sister had grown up, she accidentally discovered her identity, so she cried and begged for her twin brother to be taken home to accompany her. The couple couldn’t bear to refuse her and thus had their eldest son look for him, which was why the handsome man appeared in Zhou Yun Sheng’s worn-out cave.

Zhou Yun Sheng put on a shocked expression, but in his heart, he was contemplating the identity of the handsome man who had suddenly appeared and his supposed sister. The probability of them being the protagonists was 70%, 30% for important side characters, and as for cannon fodder*, the probability was obviously 0, the man’s appearance was too flawless, from once glance one could tell he was definitely not cannon fodder.

[*T/N: cannon fodder – “炮灰” basically the type of character that doesn’t contribute much to the story and dies very fast]

Just then, the system made a “ding” noise, meaning that a mission was here. “Host, please leave Xiao Liu village with these two people.”

Things have finally progressed*, Zhou Yun Sheng felt relaxed all over. He pretended to ask a lot of questions in surprise, such as: “is my sister alright, where does she live, how long will it take etc.”

[*T/N: Things have finally progressed – “终于刷出新副本” this has some references to gaming, so in games when a new quest or mission has popped out its called a “新副本” so what ZYS means is that he can finally advance to another stage of level of this world]

The handsome man seemed a bit arrogant, staying silent the entire time, and also seemed to be very particular about cleanliness, wearing a pair of white gloves and refusing to touch anything in the house. Seeing that the assistant was still patiently answering all of the youth’s questions, he said in a heavy voice, “Let’s go first, whatever you want to say you can say it in the car.”

“Yes Mr. Xue,” the assistant quickly responded, not caring about the opinions of the youth, just asking him for his identification documents and luggage. In their eyes, Xiao Liu Village was an extremely poor place, who could resist the temptation of leaving this place and moving to a big city?

Zhou Yun Sheng really couldn’t resist. He was used to living a lavish lifestyle, being stuck in Xiao Liu Village for ten years was already his limit. Moreover, the original body’s parents had died unjustly, while the culprit had just used some money to settle with the original body’s grandparents, and signed a private agreement, it was not enough to sway him. The original’s parents worked hard for so many years, not keeping much of the money they had earned, instead sending a large portion of it back to pay for Zhou Yun Sheng’s education, he couldn’t just not repay this debt of gratitude.

The handsome man came from the capital, while the original body’s parents were killed when they were working in the capital, since he was going there this time he could use this chance to find out the truth. Deciding on this course of action, Zhou Yun Sheng did not delay, immediately packing up some clothes and documents, and followed the two.

Walking towards the entrance of the village, a black SUV was parked at the side of the road, surrounded by a group of elderly people and children who were giving sighs of appreciation. Even if they haven’t seen much of the world*, they could judge its huge value from its huge body and sleek paint job.

[*T/N: haven’t seen much of the world – “没见过世面” means that one hasn’t experienced much of the world with a negative connotation, thus has very limited knowledge about it, pretty much like a country bumpkin]

Wow, a Land Rover SVAutobiography*, which cost at least three million yuan**, this handsome man’s family background wasn’t bad.

[*T/N: Land Rover SVAUTOBIOGRAPHY – a very luxurious and super expensive land rover, considered to be rather high end among the land rovers]

[**T/N: three million yuan – Chinese currency, should be around 430,600 US dollars]

Zhou Yun Sheng was not just some country bumpkin, he could tell what the brand of the car was at a glance, and already had a general understanding of the people who he was going with. Even if they were not from some gigantic wealthy clan*, they should at least have more than enough in riches. No wonder they were so fussy.

[*T/N: gigantic wealthy clan – “豪门巨族” kind of like the Chinese equivalent of chaebols, big families or clans that are very wealthy (the kind which has a lot of drama most of the time)]

He pretended to be like the other children, crowding around the car with excitement and curiosity, causing the assistant to laugh out loud. Although the handsome man was indifferent and arrogant, he still had a proper upbringing, waiting for Zhou Yun Sheng to look his fill before opening the door and calmly saying, “Let’s go.”

“Ay.” Zhou Yun Sheng agreed, before climbing into the car with much trouble.

FOD: Xue Zi Xuan 1.1

Hello Readers!
This is Vanilla Muse, and I will be co-translating “Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil: Xue Zi Xuan’s Side Story” with Moonlightfrost10. She will be translating the odd numbered chapters while I translate the even numbered ones.

Just for clarification, this is a side story that Feng Liu Shu Dai, the original author, wrote because of how popular Xue Zi Xuan’s character was in the main story.

Standard Info: Abbreviation for “Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil” is FOD. This is “Xue Zi Xuan’s Side Story” abbreviated to XZX. Together it is FOD:XZX. Go here for the updating schedule. Go to the title page for info on this story along with the table of contents.

Main Story Summary of FOD

A top hacker was chosen by the Lord God to be reborn into countless worlds, always as an expendable villain.
With no free will, every world became a dead end. Every one of his lives ended tragically.
Finally, after wresting control of the Villain System, this ace hacker decided to enact revenge. Even if his very bones were rotten, he’d choose to occupy the very heights of morality, if only on the surface.
Thus, he would change his fate as an abused slag.

XZX Side Story Preview [by Feng Liu Shu Dai]

Don’t know if all of you still remember or not, in Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil’s ending, Zhou Yun Sheng repaired and saved the database that was destroyed by the Lord God. This story happens in the virtual world re-built by Zhou Yun Sheng. Xue Zi Xuan vs villain Zhou Yun Sheng can be seen as a new story, a villain counterattack x slag gong rebirth text, a clear cut HE. And what Xue Zi Xuan loves is Zhou Yun Sheng the person, the soul, and has nothing to do with whether he can play the piano or not.

XZX Side Story Summary [by Moonlightfrost10]

This is an alternate universe written by the same author as QWTFD, but is about the world in arc 14 of the book. Basically, it’s about the first time Zhou Yun Sheng was in that world, the only difference being that Xue Zi Xuan is reborn into that world too. ZYS still has the Villain System which occasionally controls him but it’s not very serious because the real system has already been destroyed by ZYS, but it also means that ZYS can’t play the piano with emotion anymore (but then again XZX doesn’t care). So those who are worried about XZX only liking ZYS because he can play the piano, don’t worry. The ML of QWTFD is not is this book, the character the ML was in is now the original character.

Chapter 1.1 – A Sudden Visit

“Warning, warning, please go back immediately and wait for the allocated task, or you will be terminated!” The cold machine-like voice sounded in his mind, and the boy sitting on the tractor remained unmoved until severe pain engulfed his body. Then, with his body trembling, he finally asked, “Hai Zi-ge*, can you stop at the side of the road, I don’t want to enter the city.”

[*T/N: ge – elder brother in Chinese]

“Why? Forgot something? Hai Zi-ge will bring you back to get it, no trouble…” The young man driving the tractor heartily replied.

This place was a sandy desert, lacking water, lacking electricity, lacking food, lacking people, everything was lacking – except the bone-piercingly cold, northwest wind and an abundance of dust. The county always talked about helping the poor, but after helping for decades, the conditions in this mountain still hasn’t gotten any better. The old people have stayed here their entire lives, and despite working day and night they still couldn’t collect much food.  The young people couldn’t stand this place, and all those who could run ran away, leaving their young children alone in the countryside.

Over time, the land and the villages here became absolutely desolate. Unless it was necessary, the people in the village rarely left and the people outside rarely came in. The teenager waited months for Hai Zi-ge to arrive, who came here to transport the wild olives. He thought that he could finally escape, but was once again stopped.

“I suddenly remembered that I left my family’s millet out in the sun, it’s already afternoon, and I don’t know how long I’ll be busy. Hai Zi-ge, you still have to deliver the goods, so please go ahead first. Don’t worry about me.”

Although the youth’s tone was calm, the hands in his sleeves were trembling. The system’s threat of termination was no joke; the pain in his body had long passed, but the soul tearing still continued. He had no doubt that if he forcefully left this place, the next second his soul would be scattered.

“I didn’t expect you to be so careless and forgetful. Never mind, Hai Zi-ge will send you back.” The man turned the tractor around and headed towards the village. The wheels stirred up the yellow sand, which was then blown away by the cold northwest wind.

The teenager clenched his teeth and looked at his wrist. Apart from him, no one else could see the watch-like thing on his wrist. It was called the “villain system” and it was directly tied to the youth’s soul. If the youth failed to complete the system’s tasks, his soul would be terminated.

The youth stared at the incessantly flashing red watch, his expression heavy. As long as the red light blinked, the punishment would not stop. Evading a task was a heavy offense, according to the usual procedure, the pain would continue for an hour or two. But then something bizarre occurred. The characters on the screen suddenly became distorted, then the screen went completely black. The pain in his body and soul also receded like the tide.

The youth froze in surprise. Pretending to re-arrange his cuffs, he discretely fiddled with the watch, wanting to see whether or not it was truly dead. It’d be good if it died, he’d already had enough of this so-called “villain system.” He had no idea what kind of bad luck hit him, but one minute he was just browsing the Star Network, then he was suddenly transported into this “Lord God dimension”, and forcibly bounded to the system before being sent to different parallel worlds to complete tasks.

To call it a task was not really accurate, the Lord God didn’t care whether or not the final result was successful, as long as he didn’t try to escape, he could still be rewarded. Therefore, more and more he felt like he was just going along with the plot, because the system gave him the role of the “villain”, and the villain only has one ending, being destroyed by the protagonist. As such, he has completed many tasks; and perhaps at first his schemes seemed to go off without a hitch, but in the end, all his efforts would go to waste.

In the last world, he died with many grievances. After the story concluded, the Lord God rewarded him five points. The more points he has, the stronger his soul would get. If he managed to collect 100,000 points, he’d be able to leave the Lord God’s dimension and return to the real world. If it was anyone else, they might be completely convinced by the Lord God’s promise, but this youth was different, he was smart, very smart. He’d only completed a few tasks before he realized that the so-called points were not awarded by the Lord God itself, rather, every reincarnation he completed, the power in his soul slowly accumulated.

In other words, the Lord God tossed him into a strange dimension, and let him experience all kinds of hardships, in order to enhance his soul power. This reminded him of locusts, pigs, and livestock, regardless of what species, they’re all animals to be fattened up before the slaughter. He believed that once he accumulates the 100,000 points, his prospects would definitely not be pretty.

So he must save himself.

As for how exactly to accomplish this, he was still trying to figure that out. The system on his wrist was a shackle, but at the same time, it was the key to breaking through the restrictions of the Lord God. Each time he completed a task, the system would take him back to the Lord God’s dimension and contact the Lord God to get information on the next mission. The youth took advantage of the moment when the system integrated its soul power into the Lord God’s system to also integrate his own soul power.

Now, although his soul was still under the system’s complete control, by relying on that soul power link, he could perceive the system’s internal state. Once he found out how it worked, it would only be a matter of time before he hacked into it.

After pressing several buttons, the system still didn’t show any reaction; it really had crashed. This was extremely rare. If you didn’t know, every system was directly controlled by the Lord God, the system dying meant that there was a problem with the Lord God. Exactly which great expert managed to destroy the central system of the Lord God? Sure enough, there really were people outside of people and skies outside the sky!*

[*T/N: People outside of people and skies outside the sky – basically means for every talented person there is someone else somewhere more talented.]

While the teenager inwardly admired this unknown expert, he did not know that the person who destroyed the Lord God was his future self. And his own fate was changed from this moment onwards.

The youth didn’t have the time to rejoice before the watch “brii brii” rang twice and rebooted. The boy’s bright eyes quickly dimmed and he ruthlessly rubbed his wrist. Fortunately, the previous punishment remained canceled, which prevented him from suffering for several more hours.

The tractor travelled towards the entrance of the village; further inside was a narrow road which only allowed one-person to pass through at a time. The man pulled over to the side and patted the dejected teenager, smiling, “Okay, head home quickly.”

“Ay, I’m leaving, Ge, you be safe while driving.” The boy jumped out of the tractor, his lips drawing back to reveal a row of snow white teeth.

The man nodded in response then turned around and left. The wheels of the tractor kicked up a lot of yellow sand, which was then swept by the wind and flung into the teenager’s face, causing him to let out a few sneezes in a row.

Pei*, I’ve eaten so much sand today, I don’t even need to go back and eat anymore.” The teenager spat out the dust, then walked slowly toward his house.

[*T/N: Pei – sound of disgust]

To call it a house was overstating it, it was nothing but a cave with a single stove, where the teenager lived alone. The boy’s real name was Zhou Yun Sheng, but this body was called Huang Yi and he was a left-behind child*.

[*T/N: Left-behind child – children in China who are left in the village while their parents work in the city]

When the body was six years old, Zhou Yun Sheng was transferred into this world by the system and lived for ten years as Huang Yi. A lot has happened in those ten years. First, the original body’s parents died in a car accident, and his paternal grandparents, who couldn’t stand the psychological shock, followed them.

Two years ago, his maternal grandparents, who were responsible for raising the original body, passed away and left this cave for their grandson.

The original body also had two uncles and an aunt, who were fighting for custody of the child, but Zhou Yun Sheng rejected them. They had no interest in raising him earlier, but after the person who killed his parents paid out $70,000, all of them wanted to raise him, the motive was clear.

Zhou Yun Sheng was not a weakling waiting for someone else to come save him, so he packed up his bank book and was preparing to leave Xiao Liu Village*, but was still stopped by the system.

[*T/N: Xiao Liu Village – name of village that ZYS lives in]

Pushing open the rickety wooden door and sitting down on the cold mat, he closed his eyes and started thinking: The system wouldn’t let him leave Xiao Liu Village. It seemed that the plot required him to stay here, but for what reason? Could it be that this world’s son of destiny* was in Xiao Liu Village, and was waiting for Zhou Yun Sheng to oppress and set him up?

[*T/N: son of destiny – refers to the protagonist of the novel]

Zhou Yun Sheng wiped his face and felt that this guess was ridiculous. The population structure of Xiao Liu Village was very simple. Besides the elderly and children, all the young people left home to work. He wasn’t very narcissistic, but of all the children in the village, he was the most outstanding. The rest couldn’t leave Xiao Liu Village, head out into the world, and eventually reach the peak of society.

To say further, Zhou Yun Sheng never thought that he was inferior to any of the so-called sons of fate. If the villain system didn’t always issue him some braindead tasks, and manipulate the field to let the protagonists gain advantages, how could he have such miserable outcomes? Know that in the real world, he was the type of person who could call down the wind and the rain*, what couldn’t he accomplish in a virtual world?

[*T/N: call down the wind and the rain – very powerful person]

He shouldn’t think about his glorious past, whenever he thought of it, he felt so much hate that the roots of his teeth ached. Zhou Yun Sheng rubbed his cheeks and walked into the kitchen to find something to eat. There was nothing in the pot, but in the cupboard, which was nearly rotting, there was half a pack of flour and a head of cabbage. At least he could make a bowl of noodle soup.

Zhou Yun Sheng washed his hands, poured the flour into the basin and mixed it with water. Once he was done, he put it aside, and started chopping the cabbage. Suddenly, there was a flurry of footsteps outside his door, like many people were approaching.

Yi-Zi*, people from the city are here to visit you! Come out!” A sharp voice rang out, then the kitchen door was pushed open. A group of people rushed in and dragged Zhou Yun Sheng, who was still cutting the vegetables, to the hall next door.

[*T/N: Yi-Zi – Zhou Yun Sheng’s name in this book is Huang Yi so whenever someone says youth, young boy, Yi-Er, Yi-Zi it all refers to him]

“Who’s here? I don’t have any relatives in the city…” The rest of the words were stuck in his throat, and no matter what, he couldn’t spit them out. Zhou Yun Sheng must admit that he was indeed overwhelmed. In his dilapidated, dusty earthen cave, stood a man dressed in a high-end silver-gray suit.

Chapter 2.4 – Breeding Hate

Xue Jing Yi’s disease acted up once in the past, and she almost died, so now she was taking a leave from school and staying at home. She began learning to play the piano from the age of four, and she had a spiritual grasp in the field of music. To keep her skills from rusting, she practiced the piano strictly every morning from nine a.m. to ten a.m.
Translations by Vanilla Muse
To learn to play the piano, you must first have a piano. Zhou Yun Sheng waited at the door of the piano room the next day after receiving the task. Xue Jing Yi wore a pure white dress with a green wool cardigan. Her pale and beautiful face coupled with her slender body made her look particularly pitiful.

Once she saw the boy, her gentle smile froze over. When other members of the Xue family were around she would still try to cover up her hatred a little, but once there was no one around, she would never give this twin brother of hers a pleasant look.

Zhou Yun Sheng pretended as if he didn’t notice her rejection of him and greeted her with a smile. “Jing Yi, can I watch you play the piano?”

“No!” The girl categorically refused. Because she normally didn’t raise her voice, her voice cracked when she shouted. She originally intended to treat the boy as if he were not there, but when he stood at the door of the piano room, her inner fear and rejection suddenly reached the limit, and she almost rushed to tear him apart.

He could go anywhere within the Xue manor, anywhere but the piano room! She must never let him touch her piano. Absolutely not! She didn’t know where this obsessive thought sprouted from, but Xue Jing Yi believed that it was her instincts warning her. She walked into the piano room, then she turned around and spoke coldly, “You are never allowed to enter here, otherwise I will have my mom and dad send you back to the countryside.” She thought this was the most severe punishment for the teenager. Who would want to go back to hell once they’ve entered heaven?

But this threat obviously had no effect on Zhou Yun Sheng. From his perspective, the Xue manor was hell, and Xiao Liu Village, where he had been waiting in poverty and seclusion, was the real paradise. He took two steps forward. Just as he was about to speak, Xue Jing Yi slammed the heavy door in his face. With a ka cha she locked the door.

What the hell? Zhou Yun Sheng stared at the heavy wooden door. His face was blue, but it only took a few seconds for him to conceal his angry emotions and slowly walk back to his room. He turned on the computer and pulled up a few videos on learning how to play the piano. He quickly picked up the skills. Now he only had to practice on a real piano.

He naturally liked this kind of thing with a keyboard and regularity. Others have to practice for ten or twenty years to use it freely, but he only needed to watch a video several times. This was the difference between a genius and a mortal. He even spent twenty minutes compiling a software for playing the piano. His hand movements quickly leveled up from a rookie into a master player. He was someone who could handle even the most complicated manual armor, so how could an old instrument possibly stump him?

Using the software he played the song To Alice. Then he accessed the system to submit the task, but the system told him that only playing the song on a real piano would count as completing the task.

“So I have to sneak into the piano room to play? If I’m discovered then that means I would be sent away, right?” Zhou Yun Sheng stroked his lower jaw. He felt that this task was quite amusing.

“The host must not leave the mission premise, otherwise it is obliteration!” The system issued a warning at the appropriate time.

“Just kidding. Why so serious?” Zhou Yun Sheng waved his hand and left a trace of spiritual power inside the system to break through the first layer of defense and then enter the second layer.

On that day, the family doctor routinely gave Xue Jing Yi a medical examination. Because of his daughter’s poor health, Xue Rui converted the underground parking lot into a small medical room, which was fully equipped with everything. If his daughter has an accident, she won’t need to go to the hospital. They could administer first aid and even perform surgery at home. The doctors and nurses hired by the Xue family were on call twenty-four hours a day.

They could’ve conducted Zhou Yun Sheng’s physical examination in the basement, but Xue Rui was worried and doubtful, so he insisted that his son take him to a regular hospital.

Fu Bo, the assistant, and Xiao Deng all went to take care of the young miss. Inside the manor, it was very quiet. Zhou Yun Sheng opened the door of his room and determined that there were no people around. Then he sneaked to the third floor.

The family doctor arrived early by half an hour, so Xue Jing Yi forgot to the lock the door to the piano room in her hurry. The door opened with a light push. A white three-color piano was placed in the middle of the spacious room. The floor-to-ceiling windows were half opened, bringing in a fresh and clean aroma as the white curtains gently swayed in the breeze. The hazy sun reflected off of the cover of the piano and onto the pure white wall, casting an insipid golden light in the shape of a rhombus.
Translations by Vanilla Muse
This was a very quiet and incomparably bright space. Standing here, an impetuous mood naturally precipitated. Zhou Yun Sheng walked in without conscious thought. He gently and slowly stroked the ancient instrument.

For him, who was from the interstellar era, the piano had long since disappeared. If a person wanted a certain sound, they could be synthesized with the brain. The career of a performer only existed in history. To be able to see with his own eyes, touch with his own hands, and even play the instrument that existed only in the annals, it aroused an uncontrollable feeling of love and reverence towards this piano.

He sat down and opened the piano cover. Carefully pressing a few notes, crisp sounds emerged from the piano, and a sincere smile bloomed on his face for the first time. Sitting upright, with his ten fingers on the keys, he played the song Early Morning from memory. This was the most commonly practiced song by Xue Jing Yi.

Just after playing the first passage, the door opened, and there was Xue Zi Xuan and Xue Jing Yi standing at the threshold. One had an unfathomable expression, and the other one was so stunned that it looked like her eyes might pop out.

“You played the piano before?” Xue Zi Xuan walked in. He just finished a tour and his luggage was still in his hands.

Zhou Yun Sheng shook his head. “I haven’t played before. I only listened to it a few times.”

Xue Zi Xuan’s face looked a little different than usual. Xue Jing Yi was holding onto the doorframe as if she was about to crumble into pieces. Of course she knew that a boy from the backcountry could not have played the piano before. He didn’t even know what was a piano before. In other words, he was a genius. The kind that could listen to a music track a few times and then accurately replicate it. Then there was her brother who was only attracted to people with rich musical talent…

Get out! Get out of my house immediately! She cursed in her heart, but on the outside she was enduring with supreme effort. Xue Zi Xuan went to the piano and faintly said, “Play again. The complete piece.”
Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels(.)com
Zhou Yun Sheng quickly agreed and started playing again from the beginning. From time to time, he stole looks at Xue Zi Xuan. His eyes were slightly closed, and his expression was solemn, while his thumb massaged his temple, as if he was pondering something. Then his look changed to one of forbearance. When Zhou Yun Sheng reached the second passage, Xue Zi Xuan finally showed an impatient expression and he abruptly closed the lid on the piano keys.

Zhou Yun Sheng’s ten fingers were almost snapped off, and the high, chaotic sounds echoed in the empty room for a long time. He forcefully freed his fingers. The inflamed red injury was shocking against his pale white skin. He hissed in pain and looked at the man with angry and doubtful eyes.

“If you touch the piano again, I will break your hands.”

Chapter 2.3 – Breeding Hate

Such a notion was intolerable to the system and it often gave him the highest disciplinary punishment, making him withstand soul-rending pain for twenty hours. Not now, it seemed to have softened, only making him endure an hour of physical pain.

The most criminal notion for the system only resulted in the slightest penalty? This system was not right! Zhou Yun Sheng had suspicions in his heart, but he quickly pressed them down. After several rounds of reincarnation, he already knew what thoughts could be perceived by the system and what thoughts must be hidden in the heart.

The severe pain of broken bones came as expected and Zhou Yun Sheng gritted his teeth. At that very moment, there were footsteps outside the door. He immediately switched the laptop screen to FreeCell and then opened the anti-lock door.

“Fu Bo, is it time to eat?” The teenager smiled purely, and no one could tell how much pain his body was suffering.

Fu Bo waved his hand. “It’s not meal time yet. You have to go to the hospital for a medical examination before going through the adoption procedure. The car is already waiting outside. Change into some clean clothes and go downstairs.”

“Okay, I will come right away.” Zhou Yun Sheng immediately closed the door and found a set of casual wear. His messy hair had been trimmed, but the length was the same. His hair still hung down to his shoulders. After a week of maintenance, his skin had become delicate and white, smooth like jade. Along with his delicate facial features, it really caused people to be confused about his gender.

Xue Jing Yi’s long hair was also cut off and changed to a hairstyle that was exactly the same as his. They also wore the same style of clothes. When they stood together, at a glance, they were eighty to ninety percent similar. Strangers could never distinguish between the two.

He thought of that day when Xue Jing Yi’s hair got cut. She was crying and glaring at him with hatred. Zhou Yun Sheng wanted to laugh. What qualifications did Xue Jing Yi have to hate him? The Xue family cut her hair just to make the twins look more similar.

They had no choice but to bring him back to the manor, so they must do everything possible to cover up the traces of his existence. Thus, they dressed him like Xue Jing Yi, and he was not allowed to go out at random. He was also not allowed to appear in the same place at the same time as Xue Jing Yi. They were trying to turn him into the shadow of Xue Jing Yi. Once the time was ripe, the shadow would disappear forever and ever.

Xue Jing Yi hated him for bringing her shame. He hated her even more for plundering his life. However, Xue Jing Yi’s hatred could be vented, while his hatred could only be buried in the bottom of his heart, and he also must fulfill their desires without hesitation.

Why? Why must I be trampled on by people and brutally murdered? Zhou Yun Sheng’s chest stirred with powerful hate, but when he got on the car he smiled very purely, because the busy man Xue Zi Xuan was sitting in the back seat and going over music scores. He noticed the teenager wanting to sit next to him. Without lifting his head he said, “Sit in the front.”

Zhou Yun Sheng smiled. The foot that had entered the back seat was retracted. Then he climbed into the passenger seat and obediently fastened the seat belt.

“Big brother…” His warm address of the other person was met with a cold stare, so he quickly changed his words. “Mr. Xue has free time today?”

Xue Zi Xuan naturally did not respond. In the awkward silence, the assistant slowly drove the car on the winding road. Zhou Yun Sheng turned back to the front and sat upright. He looked out the window in bored silence. What was the purpose for going to the hospital this time? The answer was very clear in his heart. They said it was a physical examination, but in actuality they were trying to find out if he was a match for Xue Jing Yi’s heart surgery. Once the match was confirmed, he would have stepped one leg in the coffin.

He was obviously aware of the other side’s conspiracy, and he clearly had the ability to avoid their monitoring and leave, but he couldn’t do any of it because of the system. The sense of humiliation and powerlessness in his heart far outstripped the fear of waiting for death. Zhou Yun Sheng’s originally ugly mood was becoming more and more oppressed. If he didn’t blow up in silence, then he was sure to turn abnormal. He believed that one day he would erupt and go crazy.

While he was mired in his thoughts, the car had arrived at a private hospital. Zhou Yun Sheng had just read up on the Xue family’s information and knew that they held fifty-six percent of the shares of this hospital. They were the largest shareholder and had many privileges.

Sure enough, they rode the elevator directly to the top floor and were personally received by the director of the cardiology department. Zhou Yun Sheng pretended that he didn’t know anything and let the two nurses do with him as they pleased. When he left, the director pulled Xue Zi Xuan to the side. The cold eyes swept across his chest from time to time. It seemed that they were treating his body as something that could be dissected at any time. On his face, Zhou Yun Sheng maintained an opened smile, but hidden in his heart was endless darkness and hatred.

Half a month after the medical examination, Xue Rui, who was so busy you couldn’t even catch a glimpse of his shadow, and Xue Li Dan Ni, who was on tour abroad, suddenly came back. The couple walked into the house hand in hand. They talked and laughed, portraying a very happy portrait. Zhou Yun Sheng rushed out to the living room to greet them, and Xue Li Dan Ni, who always looked down on others, actually gave the boy a gentle and loving smile. She even touched his not long, but not short hair, and praised “good child.”

In less than half and hour, Xue Zi Xuan also came back. The calm face did not reveal anything, but his dark eyes radiated a pleasing brilliance, which was quite different from his past appearance.

Fu Bo was also very diligent today. He personally cooked a few hometown dishes for Zhou Yun Sheng. The taste was very authentic. Compared to the cordial attitude of the rest of the household, Xue Jing Yi became more and more cold and estranged. She occasionally casted a gaze as sharp as a thorn towards him.

Is this you treating me like a thorn in your side? You think my arrival will take away your favor? I really admire the young miss who has been sheltered by her family. The problems that you worry about are so trivial that it is ridiculous. Zhou Yun Sheng secretly sighed. He was very clear about the attitude of the Xue family. Presumably the matching results came out today, and they were a perfect match, right?

After dinner, he returned to his room and hacked into the hospital records. He saw the medical certificate: “successful matching.” The bright red characters were very eye-catching. It was no wonder that today’s family reunion and hospitality were more enthusiastic than the day when he first arrived, just because he had changed from a person who may have value into a true heart donor. For their daughter’s long life, they certainly had to feed him well.

A family of beasts! He stared at the computer screen until his eyes gradually became bloodshot.

From that day on, the Xue family’s monitoring of Zhou Yun Sheng became stricter. The housekeeper, an assistant, and the nurse Xiao Deng were the only ones left to manage the large villa. The frequent banquets were also cancelled, lest the outsiders discover his existence. They put him under house arrest and didn’t even allow him to step out of the door alone.

This kind of life lasted for more than half a month. Seeing that task two was not completed, the system did not impose any punishment, and instead released task three — learn to play the piano. This was a breeze for Zhou Yun Sheng, who had a strong learning ability.

Chapter 2.2 – Breeding Hate

Trying to incorporate into the Xue family. It seemed easy, but in reality it was impossible. If they really wanted to take his life, then they would not waste emotions on a dead person. The current situation was already very clear. They thought of him as a vessel that they needed to nourish. Eat well, drink well, and when the time came, send him to the slaughter. The only thing that puzzled him was Xue Jing Yi’s attitude.

He was sure that the Xue family would never tell Xue Jing Yi that they were planning to harvest his organs. Just think about it, would there be parents telling their children like this: Daughter, you see, you are going to die, so we will bring your twin brother back and take his organs for you. Exchange his life for your life. You mustn’t think too much.

Who wouldn’t think too much? In particular, Xue Jing Yi was still a 16-year-old girl in her prime. She was in poor health and couldn’t stand this kind of stimulation. Telling her this kind of thing was tantamount to aggravating her psychological burden and would greatly damage her health. However, for a person who didn’t know the truth, where did her strong hatred of him come from?

Zhou Yun Sheng thought about it for a bit. Perhaps his existence was a stain on Xue Jing Yi, always reminding her that she was not the real Xue family princess.

“It seems that this twin sister is also not a good-natured person, and her breath of mind if extremely narrow. Really don’t understand why the Xue family wanted to bring me here. They could just secretly keep me in some place outside, wait until the day of the surgery, and then take me to the hospital. Wouldn’t that be less hassle for them?” Zhou Yun Sheng shook his head. He couldn’t figure out the key point. But he was also certain that some situation must’ve cropped up, which led to the Xue family bringing him back to the manor. But these were not important, what was important was how to complete the second task.

Trying to incur feelings of good will when everyone thought of him as a dead man walking was harder than ascending to heaven. The only breakthrough point was Xue Jing Yi, but she treated him like some dirty secret, retreating three steps when he neared. Days in the Xue family were not going to be good ah.

Under the supervision of the Villain System, Zhou Yun Sheng naturally did not dare to evade the task. He could only toughen his skin and push on. He wanted to stick to Xue Jing Yi like a bum beetle, revolve around her, and try to use emotions to affect her. He was a dead man walking after all, if he managed to spark some emotional connectional with Xue Jing Yi, then it should cause headaches for the Xue family.

Which was why Fu Bo immediately intercepted the youth’s movements. He dragged him into a corner and warned him, “Mr. Huang, the young miss is in poor health and needs peace and quiet. If you have nothing better to do why don’t you read more books and stop bothering her.”

Zhou Yun Sheng revealed a remorseful expression and asked, “What’s wrong with Jing Yi, did she fall ill*?”

[*T/N: I think there was a typo in the raws. The author used 生产 sheng chan instead of 生病 sheng bing, which would mean “give birth” instead of “fall ill.”]

“No illness. She was merely born with a weak body.” Fu Bo refused to say more and urged the teenager to hurry up and go over his homework.

Zhou Yun Sheng took advantage of the opening and shyly asked, “Fu Bo, can I have a computer? When I have nothing to do I’ll just go online. I won’t bother my little sister anymore.”

That was exactly what Fu Bo wanted. For a country bumpkin, asides from surfing the web and playing solitaire, what else could he do? So he had an assistant immediately send over a laptop.

The laptop came fully installed. Once it was plugged in it could be used. The assistant taught him the basics and brought up a few single-player games. He saw the teenager very quickly becoming addicted to the games. Without suspecting anything, he left. Fu Bo peeked in on him several times and saw him lying on the bed playing FreeCell with an enraptured look. While Fu Bo’s face held disdain for the youth, his heart was very satisfied with the situation. A bumpkin who has not seen much of the outside world was sure easy to control.

Once he determined that Fu Bo would not be coming around again, Zhou Yun Sheng locked the door. His ten fingers flew across the keyboard so fast that they left only afterimages. All kinds of information flashed across the screen, including Xue Rui’s, Xue Li Dan Ni’s, Xue Zi Xuan’s, and Xue Jing Yi’s. All of the family’s information, from small to large, was all recorded on the internet.

The village he came from did not have running water, access to the world wide web, or public highways. He wouldn’t say that it was isolated from the rest of the world, but that wouldn’t be far from the truth. As farmers, the people there lived with their faces to the ground and their backs to the sky, rarely interacting with the outside world. The only source of information was from a television. But even that outdated colored TV, which was an expensive luxury for the impoverished Huang family, was taken away. Zhou Yun Sheng remembered that he had not seen the TV since he was ten years old, because his aunt got married and took the TV away as dowry.

So in a sense, Fu Bo’s evaluation of him was very accurate. He was indeed a dumpling who had never seen the outside world. He did not know that the Xue family was so big.

“A rich and powerful clan. An actual rich and powerful clan. F*ck. He really is the son of fate. His family background is so strong.” It only took him a few minutes to read through all the information on the Xue family. Zhou Yun Sheng shook his head and sighed. The Xue family was known as a first-class family in the Imperial Capital. Their forced spanned the army, government, and business circles. Although Xue Rui was alienated form the Xue family’s helm, he was still considered the first wife’s son. The established Xue’s consortium was very strong.

Xue Li Dan Ni and Xue Zi Xuan were world-famous musicians. One was a violin master, and the other one was a piano master. In particular, Xue Zi Xuan, who became famous at the age of twelve, had won praises from the “Piano Emperor” in the music industry. His artistic achievements were comparable to those of many piano masters of the last century.

On the other hand, Xue Jing Yi’s resume was much more ordinary. She participated in a few moderate piano competitions and ranked in the middle. It was really not outstanding.

Zhou Yun Sheng carelessly skimmed read. His gaze fixed upon a medical certificate for a long time. Congenital heart disease. Without a heart transplant the patient could not live pass twenty-five. So it turned out that what they wanted was his heart. He pressed a hand against his chest and felt the strong and powerful beats from his heart. The corners of his lips pulled up into a small, cold smile.

Integrate into the Xue family. How to integrate myself into the Xue family? Is it by selflessly dedicating my heart to them? Yeah? He glared at the system on his wrist with a fierce expression. For the ten thousandth time he thought of how he could take this thing down with himself.

“It is detected that the host’s emotions are out of control. The first-level punishment procedure will be initiated.” The system was directly connected to the host’s conscious. It immediately suppressed his rebellious notions.

How could it just be a first-level punishment? Wasn’t this usually cause for a tenth-level punishment? Zhou Yun Sheng’s expression turned confused as doubts entered his head. He often provoked the system. On one hand it was to feel out the system’s bottom line, and on the other hand, it was to remind himself with severe pain, not to lose his sense of self in the endless cycle and forget his original intention. His original intention was not to go back to the real world, but to find the Lord God and obliterate it.
