Chapter 112.2 – Before Departure

Yu Bo Fei laughed loudly, “No need to be humble. If you can inflict a serious blow on the second prince and his party, then this is a credit to you and the brothers under your command. When the time comes I will evaluate the merit of your actions and reward accordingly.”

Gong Yun no longer declined. He saluted and said, “I thank the commander on behalf of my brothers.”

Yu Bo Fei waved his hand.

……

At the Imperial Fu Palace, An Zi Ran and Fu Wu Tian had already finished up preparations for their trip to Ali Xiang. The departure date has also been set, and it just so happened to be on the fifteenth of November. But An Zi Ran could not feel at ease leaving the little bun behind.

Their destination, Ali Xiang, was far away, and they might be delayed along the road for ten to fifteen days. The little bun was too young. It was not suitable for him to go on this trip with them. But once An Zi Ran thought of the little bun ‘living alone’ with the lao wang ye under one roof, he worried that what happened before would occur again.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

“Go at ease. I will watch over the lao wang ye strictly.”

Fu Yi stepped forward to assure him. The smile on his face was more horrifying than usual. Last time, he also promised An Zi Ran the same thing, but the lao wang ye still slipped in through a gap. His illustrious reputation… this time, if he committed the same fault as last time, then he could just fire himself. He was as good as his word.

This was the first time that An Zi Ran saw such an expression on the head steward’s face, and he immediately felt relieved.

In the afternoon, Wang Qing Lan’s servant girl, Qi Qiao, came over. It was as if she caught wind of some news.

“Fourth Concubine wants to see me?” An Zi Ran looked at Qi Qiao unexpectedly. Because Wang Qing Lan’s status was merely that of a concubine, so she couldn’t go to other people’s houses willy-nilly, not even if it was the house of An Zi Ran’s husband, so she could only send Qi Qiao over to look for him.

Qi Qiao lowered her head. “Yes, Young Master.”

An Zi Ran remembered that he hadn’t seen Wang Qing Lan for a while. He was very busy, so he didn’t have time to pay attention to her. But since coming to the capital, the number of times that she left the An Palace was low. She seemed to be living quietly and not causing trouble, so he thought that she had finally settled down.

“You go back first. I’ll head over in a moment.”

“Yes, Young Master.”

A little while later, An Zi Ran returned to the An Palace alone. An Palace was nominally also his home, but he had only been there two or three times.

Wang Qing Lan and her personal maid, Qi Qiao, were already waiting for him in the main hall of the Palace. As soon as she saw An Zi Ran, a flash of joy flickered in Wang Qing Lan’s eyes. Although she quickly smothered the joy, it was still detected by An Zi Ran.

“I heard from Qi Qiao that Fourth Concubine was looking for me. What’s the matter?”

As soon as An Zi Ran walked in, he questioned her straightforwardly before he even sat down.

The smile on Wang Qing Lan’s face went stiff. Originally, she had wanted to reminisce with him about old times, but she could only explain, “It’s like this, I heard that you and Fu wang ye are preparing to leave Jun Zi City, is that true?”

An Zi Ran furrowed his brows. “Where did you hear that?”

Wang Qing Lan perceived that he was not happy, so she explained again, “Don’t misunderstand me, I didn’t inquire about your and Fu wang ye’s matters. It’s just that, coincidentally, one day I heard the servants from the Imperial Fu Palace shouting through the wall, so I guessed that perhaps you were planning to go out. I definitely did not intentionally inquire about it.”

An Zi Ran’s serious expression eased a little. The movements of the past few days were indeed quite large. If she had stood by the wall, it was not impossible for her to overhear.

“You had me come over here just to say this?”

Wang Qing Lan said, “I’m just afraid that if for some reason I wanted to consult with you over something, I would not be able to find you. That’s why I want to discuss it with you, if such a time were to occur whom should I look for then?”

An Zi Ran said, “I didn’t know that Fourth Concubine had the ability to prophesize the future without being a clairvoyant.”

Wang Qing Lan heard the sarcasm in his words, and a trance of stiffness flashed across her face. “Fourth Concubine just wants to take precautions against any contingencies, nothing more.”

An Zi Ran knew that she must have another purpose, otherwise she would not specifically ask him to come over and ask about it. But she did remind him that Wang Qing Lan has been acting too peacefully during this time. The more peaceful she was, the more problematic it was, like the calm before the storm.

It was just that he would not be in Jun Zi City for the new two or three months. If something did indeed crop up, he would be too far away to act. It seemed that he had to find someone to keep an eye her.

“I understand. If there is a problem that cannot be solved, you can go look for the head steward in the Imperial Fu Palace. He will help you solve it.”

Wang Qing Lan said with a happy face, “Okay. Fourth Concubine understands.”

An Zi Ran gave her a deep look before leaving.

Wang Qing Lan watched his departing back, and finally she could not contain the growing joy on her face. An Zi Ran though that she had some objective, and she did indeed, but it wasn’t some conspiracy. She just wanted to borrow the reputation of the Imperial Fu Palace, and make those people who looked down on her think that her relationship with the Imperial Fu Palace was very good, that’s all.

Chapter 80

Esmond took a deep breath, forcefully blinked away the tears in his eyes, and attempted to look for any remains of the other person.

In the next moment, his eyes suddenly fixed upon a very shallow footprint.

A little hope suddenly rose from the bottom of his heart. Rationally, he knew that it was almost impossible, but he could not help helping hope even if the probability was very faint.

His body was almost already numb from the cold. Staggering, he supported himself on the tree trunk to get up, and followed the footprints onward.

The footprints were very shallow. The person who walked out from here must have left quite some time ago.

Holding the crystal stone in his hand, Esmond’s chest rose and fell quickly. A thought suddenly stemmed from his heart.

His steps grew quicker and quicker. In a flash, his figure submerged into the forest.

In the cities and towns within the capital, it was still as peaceful and placid as before.

The sun was about to go down soon. Pedestrians were walking fast on their way home. They rarely stopped to exchange words. Most of them were in a hurry.

Over the past few years, there have been more and more Fallen. It was still safe during the day, but at night, civilians with little ability to protect themselves dare not go out at will.

But at this time, a civilian youth in simple clothing still hovered on the road, looking around anxiously, as if searching for someone.

Today, the sunset period seemed particularly long. The rose-tinted twilight sky reflected upon the roads as a sheet of blood red. The youth lifted his hand to shade his eyes from the somewhat harsh sunlight, and his gaze landed on the dark shadows that flickered on the street corner.

His eyes lit up, but he quickly suppressed it and only accelerated his pace to follow behind the shadow, neither too far nor too close.

Su Shi’s steps paused. Then he crossed a road and squeezed into a secluded alley.

Originally, he had intended to go straight to the papacy, but the more he walked the more he faintly felt that something was not right. After deliberately circling a few roads and turning around several times in different directions, he finally confirmed that there was indeed someone following him.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

The god of light pardoned the brand on his body. This would certainly leave a vision in the papacy. The pope might have sensed it too. Since there were assassins pursuing Esmond, who could say that there won’t be people after Su Shi soon?

Su Shi didn’t dare to relax his vigilance; with rapt attention he quickly took a few steps forward, and then suddenly disappeared into the darkness.

The black robe on his body was very conducive to concealment. He wore the hood up and bowed his head. Standing in the shadows and holding his breath, almost no trace could be seen.

The swift footsteps were getting closer and closer, and the person behind him caught up with just a few breaths, looking nervously to the left and right.

Su Shi took the opportunity to burst forward. With one hand he clamped down on the other person’s arm, the other hand was already gripped tightly around the other person’s throat, pressing the man unwaveringly against the wall.

The other party did not struggle.

The moment Su Shi went on the offensive the other person gave up any and all resistance. He only looked at Su Shi urgently, his chest continuously undulating up and down. There was already a trace of water vapors in his eyes.

Facing those eyes, Su Shi was silent for a moment. Then, as if all the air was leaking out of him, he released his hold.

Before he could speak, a pair of powerful arms sturdily embraced him.

He was held so tightly that he could only exhale and not inhale. Dizzy, Su Shi raised his hand to pat the other person. He wanted to tell the other person to let go of him first, but suddenly there was ice-cold water dripping on his cheeks.

Su Shi’s raised hand dropped, and he hesitated for a moment. His strength gradually relaxed. He closed his eyes and leaned up against the other.

They were pressed chest to chest. Separated by a thin fabric, he could even feel the fierce heartbeat of the other person.

Su Shi’s nose was a little sour. He coughed lightly and raised his hand to pull at his cuff. “I didn’t know it was you… Did I scare you?”

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

“You scared me to death…”

A muted voice sounded in his ear with a choking quality that was difficult to control.

A warm palm suddenly enveloped his hand, and he was pulled even tighter into the other’s embrace.

In the end, Esmond hugged him to his heart’s fill.

Almost did not leave him any opportunity to make comments or suggestions.

Su Shi wanted to speak several times, but he still did not have the heart to do so. He could only let Esmond hug him. Su Shi lifted his hand and stroked the cardinal’s back in a placating manner.

“I’m alive. Don’t be scared.”

Chapter 79

Although the god did not give him a chance to reject his question, at least he asked for his own will.

Su Shi was somewhat consoled. He raised his head, about to offer a polite word, but the voice impatiently continued on.

“Not bad, not bad, it’s good as long as you’re willing. The two of you are honestly really well matched…”

The tone was full of gratification. Then the voice gradually faded away, and the thick fog everywhere swallowed up the last rays of sunshine.

Su Shi didn’t even have time to speak. The wind around him was already picking up little by little.

Spilled blood continued to splash to the ground, and the descending lifeless body fell down weakly, hitting the frozen ground with a dull sound.

The sharp ice blades finally calmed down, circling slowly around him, and then turning into thin snowflakes. They fell silently, covering the bright red blood on the ground.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Su Shi did not have time to tarry. He dropped into a half kneeling position and searched the leader of the black robed assassins. As expected, he found a black crystal stone.

The pope had already commanded for an assassination on the protagonist. Even if he had the bishop’s inscribed crystal stone, he would not be able to enter the papacy smoothly. When he pushed away Esmond, he had stuffed the other person’s crystal stone back into his hands.

There was clear demonic energy on these people. If they were not personal guards of the pope, then they were confidants cultivated by the pope himself. So they must have some special token of proof on them.

After he searched through several people one by one, Su Shi raked in some inventory. Then he picked up a black robe that was still intact and hurried towards the edge of the forest.

In any case, he must find the pope before the protagonist makes his move.

Having the feeling of full strength was indeed much better. Su Shi walked nonstop, following the map out of the forest. Before the sky turned completely dark, he successfully bypassed the misty forest.

Not long after he left, a new silhouette appeared on the snowy scene.

Esmond walked over slowly. The hands hanging at his sides were gripped into white-knuckled fists. They were gripped so tight that they vaguely trembled.

The temperature in this area was still much lower than in other places. The cold wind whizzes uncontrollably, occasionally rolling up some snowflakes, causing a person’s body to freeze stiffly after a while.

His strength was no longer the same as before. With just a thought he could summon a flame to warm himself. However, he just continued to walk forward one step at a time. Every step was taken with care, as if afraid of disturbing the perfect pure white snow before him.

The snow had accumulated into a thicker layer, but it was still unable to cover up the corpses scattered on the ground.

He knew exactly what had happened here.

The wound on his side had long healed, but like the ice cone piercing ruthlessly into his chest, the pain tumbled uncontrollably. The cold spread silently along the blood to the limbs and bones.

He walked over to the tree, and carefully caressed the mottled scars left on it. Holding on to the tree trunk, he kneeled slowly on the ground and grabbed a handful of snow. But what remained was melted snow water and it flowed through the gaps in his fingers.

Esmond suddenly shook ferociously.

“Ivan…”

His voice was somewhat muted and hoarse. The name, spoken softly, was instantly blown away by the cold wind.

In the mirage he saw all those attacks rushing at Ivan like torrents—it was enough to completely obliterate a person. Ivan’s body was already extremely weak, so much so that Esmond had already lost all hope of finding even the smallest traces of the other party.

But even though he had fallen into such an unfavorable disadvantage, the young Holy Paladin still managed to die in such an incredible way, taking down all the pursuers with him here.

Chapter 9.7 – Children Are Debt

“En.” Xue Yan glanced at her. “You don’t look very good. Did your condition get worse?”

“It’s nothing. It’s always like this.” Xue Jing Yi forced a smile and waved her hand.

Xue Yan was just asking casually. Why would he care about her life or death? Then he turned to look at the teenager who was sitting next to Xue Zi Xuan and just minding his own business. Xue Yan smiled and asked, “And this must be your dear younger brother?”

He deliberately emphasized the three words “dear younger brother,” as if disdainful and even disgusted.

Zhou Yun Sheng opened the toolbox and fiddled with the parts inside. He found it beneath his dignity to deal with prejudiced people.

Seeing the interaction between the two, Xue Zi Xuan suddenly calmed down in a split second. He brought the teenager into his arms. While stooping down to help him take off his shoes, he said with laughter: “As great uncle said, Xiao Yi is my family.”

Xue Yan raised his eyebrows and declined to comment. He tapped the document pouch on the table and said: “If you have the intention then give me a call, I’ll be waiting.”

“Okay, I’ll see great uncle out.” Xue Zi Xuan almost couldn’t wait to stand up and push him out. The two traveled to the door.

Xue Yan warned him in a tone that was neither too fast nor too slow: “I heard from Xue lao er* that you recently caused a great disturbance. You can play around with men, but don’t go overboard. When it’s time, you still need to look for an appropriate match** to carry on the ancestral line. That is what’s proper.”

[*T/N: lao er = second-eldest child in a family]

[**T/N: 门当户对 – the families are well matched in terms of social status]

Xue Zi Xuan gave him a steady glance, nodded his head, and said, “Great uncle, I have propriety.” He said this and handed Xue Yan over to Xue lao si*, who was waiting outside.

[*T/N: lao si = fourth-eldest child in a family]

Xue Zi Xuan watched the group of people walk into the elevator. He closed the door and chuckled. Xue Yan actually told him that the succession of the lineage was serious and proper? Was this really the arrogant Xue Yan of the last life, wild and unruly? He actually despised Xiao Yi? He actually felt that a person should live according to the rules?

Absurd. So ridiculous!

Xue Zi Xuan felt extremely ridiculous and relaxed at the same time. He walked back to the two-person sofa and sat down. He picked up the document pouch and tore it open.

Zhou Yun Sheng seized the opportunity to put his leg on his knee. He murmured with dissatisfaction: “Who the heck was that? So detestable.”

Xue Zi Xuan chuckled again. He squeezed the teenager’s soft feet and sighed.

“That’s Xue Yan, the patriarch of the Xue family.”

Zhou Yun Sheng nodded and stopped questioning. He continued to fiddle with the parts in the toolbox.

Xue Jing Yi sat opposite the two. She poured out the tea that had been drunk, and made a fresh pot of tea.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Xue Zi Xuan did not look up. He picked up the phone and called Xiao Zhou: “Xue Jing Yi is here at my place. You bring Xiao Deng and come pick her up.”

“Brother, can I stay with you until you get off work? I haven’t seen you for a long time, and I really miss you. How about we take Xiao Yi to Pang Jia Yuan for dinner later?”

Xue Jing Yi put down the tea set. Tears of longing moistened her eyes. She couldn’t stand her brother’s cold treatment for much longer. Her heart really, really was about to be smashed into pieces.

Xue Zi Xuan looked through the documents page by page, occasionally pinching the naughty feet of the teenager who kept moving about. He was completely unmoved by the tears and pleading of the girl. These things, he has had enough of in his last life.

Her tears were venom, her weakness was a weapon, and even her pleading hid ulterior motives. In a while longer, he will send her far away. It was best not to meet again in this life.

Xiao Zhou and Xiao Deng quickly arrived and took the away the crying and staggering Xue Jing Yi. They sent her directly to the hospital.

Zhou Yun Sheng, who had been silently installing machinery, smiled.

Xue Zi Xuan looked at him with a half-pampering and half-helpless gaze. In the end, he fetched a blanket over to cover his legs. Then he continued to thumb through the documents. After a while later, he flung away the papers in his hand and laughed silently.

If it was just a vague premonition before, then after reading the documents, Xue Zi Xuan was one hundred percent certain that the person just now was not Xue Yan, or rather; it was not the Xue Yan who had been fighting with him for a lifetime. He couldn’t even settle the debts of a few hundred people, and he even had to seek cooperation from someone of the younger generation. This was not Xue Yan’s strength. Furthermore, the Xue family of this life was far from reaching the heights of the past life.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

The Xue Yan just now was abundantly vicious, but his aura was insufficient. He was more conservative in his actions and lacked sharpness. The Xue family wouldn’t decline in the hands of that Xue Yan, but it was also impossible for him to take it a step further.

Regardless of whether it was the behavior pattern or personal temperament, he was a far cry from the business hegemon in his memories. They could never be the same person.

Realizing this, all of Xue Zi Xuan’s worries and fears disappeared in an instant. He was not curious about who this person was or where the Xue Yan of his previous life had gone. He only needed to make sure that this teenager was his teenager.

That was enough.

Chapter 112.1 – Before Departure

The Yu Manor was about the same size as the Imperial Fu Palace, but Yu gui fei’s* father, Yu Zheng, as an important minister for two imperial dynasties, and a high official of the Ministry of War, the amount of effort that he invested into Da Ya was almost equally matched to Zhang Sun Cheng De.

[*T/N: Different from the Yu huang gui fei mentioned before. Huang gui fei is a higher rank than gui fei.]

Thus, due to all the work that he contributed for the sake of Da Ya, the previous emperor bestowed this mansion house to Yu Zheng. At the time of construction, it was built according to the specifications of a prince’s palace, so it was a bit more majestic than other government houses.

Gong Yun looked up to see a plaque with the words Fu Manor directly above the front door. His astute eyes than darted back down and he strode inside.

The doorkeepers of the Yu Manor have seen him before and knew that he was the master’s trusted aide. Last year, he rose to serve as the deputy commander of the imperial guards. Therefore the doorkeepers were very respectful. They diligently invited him inside, not daring to neglect him.

Gong Yun didn’t dare to ignore the rules of the Yu Manor even if he had been there a few times before. He respectfully followed the Yu Manor steward to Yu Bo Fei’s study room.

Yu Bo Fei was Yu huang gui fei’s older brother. He was already forty-five years old this year. He had one son and one daughter. The older son was already twenty-three years old. From childhood, he was the third prince’s study partner. Compared to the third prince, Fu Yuan Yang, whose temperament was not that good, disagreeable and irascible; his son, on the contrary, was thoughtful and meticulous. The two complemented each other very well.

“Come in!”

Yu Bo Fei’s customary awe-inspiring voice rang out from within the study.

Gong Yun steadied his nerves, pushed open the door, and walked in. However, the steward did not leave, but kept watch at the door of the study, seeming to be there to prevent anyone from overhearing.

“Commander, what did you summon me for?” Gong Yun asked, with his expression the same as ever. He walked in front of Yu Bo Fei, who was buried under legal files, and had yet to lift his head.

Yu Bo Fei finally lifted his head and showed a resolute expression. Already forty-five years old, but he looked like he was only in his thirties. His face was not angry as his eyes fell on Gong Yun. Only after a while did he open his mouth.

“Gong Yun, I remember that you have always been a person with propriety. You should know that the person behind Bao Hua Gambling House is the fifth prince. He has the Zhao family’s support, and behind him there is the second prince backing him in court. This time, why did you not tell me first before openly confronting them?”

Gong Yun raised his eyes and said, “Commander, you should have already heard about Tian Long Gambling House.”

Yu Bo Fei nodded. “This matter was such a tumultuous event, that it would be hard not to hear about it. I know what you mean, but what does this have to do with you?”

“It has nothing to do with me, “ Gong Yun said, “but it does have something to do with the Yu family.”

Yu Bo Fei looked at him. “Why do you say so?”

Gong Yun said, “Bao Hua Gambling House is the most profitable industry under the fifth prince’s name. These years, the circulation of his funds all depends on this casino to operate. Also, all of his dirty money goes through Bao Hua Gambling House to become clean money. If Bao Hua Gambling House collapses or there is some problem, wouldn’t it be a big hit for the second prince and his faction?”

With this in mind, he took the risk and brought twenty brothers under his lead to intervene in the matter. Even if the second prince’s faction bore a grudge against them because of this, it did not matter. They were hostile towards each other to begin with.

In recent years, the second prince has become so popular that even the Chong Ming Emperor has praised him many times at court in front of the civil and military officials. There has even been word that the throne might be passed to him. How could the Yu family not be alert!

Yu Bo Fei was a smart man, and soon came to think of this too.

It was no secret that Bao Hua Gambling House and Tian Long Gambling House were in dispute with each other, but since the opening of Tian Long Gambling House, Bao Hua Gambling House has never benefited from the confrontation between the two, and each time they lost miserably.

Although it was a matter between the two gambling houses, there were many people in Jun Zi City who were paying attention to this matter, including Yu Bo Fei, but the focus of his attention was not on Bao Hua Gambling House, rather, it was on Tian Long Gambling House.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

From the appearance of this mysterious gambling house to the present, no one knew who the mastermind behind it was. At the beginning, no one particularly cared about it. There were many gambling houses within the capital. It was common to see gambling houses rise and fall. When there was competition, naturally there would be failure.

Everyone was calm until the emergence of mahjong and playing card games.

The emergence of the new gambling games meant reform. Many people immediately thought of the benefits. They all thought of sticking their noses in and harshly barring the other’s path, but Tian Long Gambling House protected these two kinds of gambling games very closely, especially mahjong. Its production method was a mystery till this day.

Yu Bo Fei was not a businessman, but even he was envious of the development prospects of these two types of gambling games. If Tian Long Gambling House were to truly develop, then the nine major gambling houses, such as Bao Hua Gambling House were likely to suffer indelible damage.

Yu Bo Fei said, “You did very well. It is I who blamed you wrongly.”

Gong Yun said, “I don’t deserve your praise. This subordinate is merely doing what he should do.”

Chapter 15 – One Year

In May of the fifth year of Yun Tai, the Xuan Yuan Empire won the final victory against the northern barbarians. Xuan Yuan Han Cheng sat inside the main tent of the barbarians’ leader, his heart filled with a myriad of emotions.

He was baptized by war over a period of more than nine months, and his character became more reserved, making it hard for people to guess his thoughts.

The expedition was not smooth at the beginning. When Xuan Yuan Han Cheng took the army to the border city, it was already winter.

The climate in the north was extremely cold and the soldiers from the capital could not adapt and fell ill. Fortunate, there were enough herbs in the army to prevent casualties.

The barbarians knew that the army of the Xuan Yuan Empire came and also knew that the difference in strength between the two sides was great. The barbarians did not dare to respond head on. Instead, they would often ambush the army during their march or raid them at night. Although they were scattered, they still caused a lot of casualties, which gave the soldiers plenty of headache.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

The battle continued until the spring. Xuan Yuan Han Cheng calculated how to lure a part of the enemy’s main force into a trap and ambushed them, causing a great injury to the barbarians’ battle spirit.

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng followed up the victory and pressed his offense, and after several battles, he hit upon the barbarians’ ruling city.

With his maternal uncle, Zheng Yuan Hou, keeping watch in the back, army provisions and supplies kept up. After another two huge battles, Xuan Yuan Han Cheng’s army successfully broke through the barbarian’s royal city.

“Your Royal Highness, Zheng Yuan Hou asks for an audience.” The imperial bodyguard outside the ten came in to report.

“Have Zheng Yuan Hou come in.” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng just finished talking when he saw a middle-aged man wearing strong armor walk in.

“Your Royal Highness, you just passed down a command, to exterminate the barbarians, this… perhaps you should deliberate a bit more, wait for the emperor’s reply.” Zheng Yuan Hou was the blood-related older brother of the empress from the first wife. In this war, he also admired the crown prince’s excellent ability to make wise decisions, however, differences in opinion have arisen in dealing with the issue of prisoners of war.

“No need, I have already sent reports to Imperial Father.” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng understood Zheng Yuan Hou’s thoughts. After all, his imperial father and his younger brother did not die because of the barbarians in this life, so his decision to exterminate the barbarians would seem cruel.

“But, Your Royal Highness, this is not good for your reputation! To execute all the men, women, elderly, and children of the barbarians… or how about, just execute their royal family, and the rest will be slaves.”

“Uncle, don’t try to persuade me anymore. I have decided. The barbarians have always been a cunning and tenacious bunch. If you don’t pull them out by the roots, even if you make them slaves, they are not of our nationality. There will definitely be differences at the core. Must put to death! When it comes to cruelty, which of the villages they slaughtered did not have old people, women, and children. Be cruel this time to relieve us of hidden dangers in the future and to deter other small tribes. This is the best decision. I don’t care about my reputation or anything. I think Imperial Father will agree with me,” Xuan Yun Han Cheng said.

“Without any better options, then so be it.” Zheng Yuan Hou also knew that the crown prince’s analysis was correct. Alas! But in this way, he was afraid the crown prince would have to bear the notoriety of cruelty.

In May of the fifth year of Yun Tai, the crown prince ordered the extermination of the royal city, regardless of age or gender: men, women, old, and young. The whole city was awash in blood, and more than twenty thousand were wiped clean off the face of the earth. There were no more barbarians in the world.

By the time the emperor received the news, Xuan Yuan Han Cheng was already leading the army and on their way back.

The crown prince’s command to annihilate the barbarians caused a big wave in the empire.

One after another, the imperial historians wrote and claimed that His Royal Highness’s means were too cruel, which was detrimental to the benevolence of the Xuan Yuan Dynasty.

Some people even said that His Royal Highness went over the son of heaven’s head and gave this order without the permission of the emperor. This was contempt for the emperor and should be severely punished.

But the emperor suppressed such words. Alas! The crown prince was only nineteen years old. In the end, he was in the prime of his youth, and was unlikely to consider his decisions at length. This method of handling the matter was simplistic and cruel. As a result, it was too excessive.

Under the pressure of the imperial court, the emperor had no choice but to cancel the ceremony of going outside the city walls to personally welcome the crown prince back, and after the prince returned to the palace, had to have him reflect on his errors for half a month, prevented from attending morning court, as a warning.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

In the Imperial Study Room, Emperor Xuan Yuan Zhao Shen was right in the middle of instructing the crown prince.

“In this half a month, you have a good rest. Next time, you are not allowed to do things like this. You are the future heir apparent to the throne. A prince with a brutal reputation. What the courtiers think of you. Ugh! Forget it, you are still young, go back and think about it. You must consider what is appropriate behavior in many things. Going too far is as bad as not doing enough.”

The emperor always thought that the second son was more impulsive, but he did not expect the elder son to be the same. Ugh! No hurry, his body was still robust, he could teach for a few more years. The crown prince was already doing quite well as it were.

“Yes. Er’chen understands.”

Over the following period of time, news about the cruelty of His Royal Highness spread throughout the Xuan Yuan Empire. When people with ulterior motives propagated the news, the contents became more and more severe.

Chapter 9.6 – Children Are Debt

The winding mountain road twisted and turned, and there were cars coming head on towards them from time to time.

Xue Jing Yi screamed out loud repeatedly in fright, and burst into cold sweat.

“Xiao Yi, drive slowly!” She tried to hold Zhou Yun Sheng’s hand on the control lever.

“If you want to fall off the cliff together, then go ahead and touch me casually.” Zhou Yun Sheng stared intently straightforward. The vehicle’s tail drifted and a sharp brake sound was subsequently heard.

Xue Jing Yi was thrown hard against the door by inertia and half of her arm turned numb. She dared not touch the teenager again. Instead, she clutched her chest and wept: “Xiao Yi, you drive slowly. I beg you to drive slowly. My heart is not good, I will die, I will die!” Tears and snot mixed together on her face.

Zhou Yun Sheng stepped on the accelerator and assuredly said: “Relax, you can’t die.” You’re the child of fate in this world, how could you die so easily?

The speed soared up in a flash, making Xue Jing Yi cling tightly to the car seat, looking like she might suffocate at any moment. She closed her eyes and did not dare to look outside at the flying scenery. She kept crying harder and harder.

It wasn’t until this moment that she saw into the youth’s heart, but it was merely the tip of the iceberg.

She was filled with evil intentions towards the other person, but so was the other person. He had bad thought towards her, too.

However, for the sake of her brother, she could only think about it in her heart. On the surface, she still wanted to be intimate with him, but he could unscrupulously inflict damage and even push her to the brink of dying.

What could she use to fight him with? He was too ruthless, ruthless in his heart, ruthless in his actions, and even more brilliant in his intelligence. At this moment, Xue Jing Yi had an unstoppable fear of Huang Yi.

At the same time, Zhou Yun Sheng also received a warning from the system: “It is detected that the host is hurting the child of fate, please stop at once, otherwise the system will implement a half-hour electric shock punishment.”

Half an hour of electric shock punishment? What the hell? Compared to punishment levels one through ten, an electric shock was just like tickling. At this moment, Zhou Yun Sheng sincerely thanked the system for his training. It made him suffer, but it also made him indomitable.

He ignored the system and repeatedly stepped on the gas pedal. The acute pain of electric shocks plunged into his limbs, causing him to laugh heartily and roar in excitement. He whistled as they passed over the mountain ridges, fast as lightning, almost scaring Xue Jing Yi to death in her seat.

Finally, for the sake of the child of fate’s safety, the system had to be cancelled hastily after ten minutes of electric shock.

Zhou Yun Sheng calmly drove the car to the Xue consortium; expertly opened the small bag that Xue Jing Yi carried with her, took out a quick-acting heart rescue pill, and stuffed it under her tongue.

“Was it fun? I’ll take you to drag racing next time.” He smiled like a devil.

Xue Jing Yi covered her chest and couldn’t move for a long time. Her legs were weak, her feet were weak, her whole body was weak, but her heart was pounding so strongly that it was about to jump out of her throat.

She opened her mouth with difficulty and asked, “Aren’t you afraid of being caught by the police?”

Zhou Yun Sheng raised his eyebrows in disapproval. The license plate number, windows, and paint of this car were all specially treated. From a monitor screen, only a black shadow could be captured, so he was not worried at all.

“If you have no energy, then lie in the car. I will go to find Brother.”

Zhou Yun Sheng walked towards the stairs with a silver toolbox in hand.

How could Xue Jing Yi give up the opportunity to approach Xue Zi XUan. Even if she had to crawl, she would crawl out of the car. She opened the door of the car and followed the teenager on unsteady feet.

The two rode the elevator up to the first floor from the parking lot. Since Xue Jing Yi had participated in many piano competitions and was considered to be a semi-public figure, the front desk quickly recognized her identity and let them pass through directly.

The assistant was not there. There was no one guarding the door, so the two went directly to the office and found Xue Zi Xian and a man in a wheelchair drinking kung fu tea. An entire tea set was placed on the table.

Seeing Zhou Yun Sheng, who had came into the room first, Xue Zi Xuan’s expression froze for a moment but he quickly collected himself. He suppressed his fears and beckoned: “Xiao Yi, sit next to your brother.”

“Brother, I have come to see you too.” Xue Jing Yi followed closely behind, trying to remind her brother of her existence. When she saw the man sitting opposite Xue Zi Xuan, she shrank unconsciously and whispered: “Hello, great uncle.”

The man in the wheelchair was the current clan elder of the Xue family, Xue Yan. He was not very old, but his seniority was very high.

Chapter 111.2 – Number One Merchant

Concerning Fu Yuan Jian’s decision to be Da Ya’s number one merchant, Zhao Gang and Yun fei were not in agreement, but on the contrary, Zhao Yi was supportive of Fu Yuan Jian’s decision, because he knew that Fu Yuan Jian was not suited to being an emperor.

“To be able to subdue Fu Yuan Jian and Zhao Yi, Fu Yuan Cheng does indeed have skill!”

After hearing what Fu Wu Tian said, An Zi Ran nodded in agreement. Then he remembered another thing and suddenly raised his head. “Based on what you’re saying, shouldn’t it be Fu Yuan Jian behind Bao Hua Gambling House?”

Fu Wu Tian was a little surprised by his keenness.

When An Zi Ran saw Fu Wu Tian’s expression, he knew that his guess was most likely correct. Fu Yuan Jian and Fu Yuan Cheng were both on the same boat, no matter which one he was up against, it was the same.

……

Early the next morning, Li Zhen personally brought someone with him to deliver the playing cards to the casino. They went through the back door, so not many people saw them going in. No one knew that the first batch of playing cards have been prepared until the casino advertised them.

An Zi Ran’s plan was to temporarily sell the first batch of playing cards at the casino, because the gamblers themselves were the best publicity. With their help, through word of mouth, news of the new playing cards should spread within half a day. However, the results were even better than he had expected.

In less than a day, four thousand decks of playing cards were sold. After learning that the price for a deck of cards was one hundred and fifty coins, some of the gamblers felt a little sore, but at the thought of the rarity of this thing, they steeled themselves and bought it.

Some people even bought five decks. If the casino did not limit them to five decks per a customer, then they probably would have bought more. And for those who hesitated for too long, when they finally made up their minds to buy it, the decks were all sold out. One by one they all immediately regretted their hesitation.

As for the remaining one thousand decks of playing cards, An Zi Ran had other plans.

Five hundred of them were gifted to gold card members of the little garden as member benefits.

As for the other five hundred decks, An Zi Ran had already found a shop to his liking, and was planning to open a store selling playing cards in the capital, genuinely geared towards the common people. As for how many people would buy the playing cards that would depend on the people (and whether or not they were willing to part with their money).

After news of the novel playing cards store circulated, those who did not buy the cards at the casino all went to the store early the next morning and squatted outside to wait, but the cards were sold out quickly. Excluding manufacturing and labor costs, five thousand decks of playing cards made a net profit of three to four hundred silvers.

In the past, Li Zhen absolutely did not dare to imagine that he could earn so much money in one day. This result strengthened his determination to cooperate with An Zi Ran.

What was unfortunate was that the second batch of playing cards would take some time to produce. As for the mahjong cards, An Zi Ran intended to wait until they came back from Ali Xiang to promote them. As long as they had the technological skills, they did not have to worry about being preempted by Bao Hua Gambling House.

……

At the same time, Bao Hua Gambling House welcomed the arrival of their master.

Luo Yang and Jiang Sheng did not expect that their master would come in person. While being startled, they could also guess that their master must have heard about the playing cards.

Both of them were very nervous and apprehensive in their hearts. When they rushed to the private booth, they saw their master’s unhappy expression. And when their master saw them coming in, his angry eyes fell upon them like a whip.

“This prince left matters into your hands, but this is the results you give this prince?” Fu Yuan Jian said as he smashed the teacup in his hands at their feet. The pieces of the teacup were scattered everywhere. There were porcelain shards in nearly all four corners of the room.

Luo Yang closed his eyes and did not speak. After calming down, he was not as panicked as before.

The current person in charge of Bao Hua Gambling House was not him, but Jiang Sheng. He was responsible too, but wang ye’s anger must be directed at the person currently in charge of the gambling house.

Wang ye, right now the workshop is producing official card paper with all their effort. In three days time, they will be able to produce five thousand sheets of official card paper. We should still be able to make it on time,” Jiang Sheng braced himself to explain.

“What do you understand?!” Fu Yuan Jian snorted coldly. “In business, making the first move is an advantage. You said it would take three days before we can get the official card paper. What about the time for making playing cards? By that time, Tian Long Gambling House will have produced their second and third batch of playing cards. At that time do you still think there will be leeway for us to display our playing cards?”

Jiang Sheng didn’t have business acumen, so of course he didn’t know about such things, but even if he knew, there was nothing that he could do, because three days was indeed the fastest.

He had thought of going to other counties to buy the paper, but official card paper was not a precious product that could be easily popularized. The quality of paper from paper mills near the capital was not as good as the one within the capital itself. There were better papermaking workshops farther away, but they were too far, and it would take more than three days to go back and forth.

Fu Yuan Jian also knew this, but he needed a place to vent.

He was determined to the number one merchant in Da Ya. Bao Hua Gambling House was just the first step, because he needed to earn more money to do other things.

However, in his creed of life, no matter what industry he was in, he demanded to bet he best, however, just as he was striding towards success, someone harshly inserted a bar in his way. Not only did the other party successfully obtained Feng Hua Gambling House, they even snatched more than half of the business from Bao Hua Gambling House, resulting in the income of Bao Hua Gambling House becoming worse than before.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Now the other party was launching some kind of mahjong cards. If Tian Long Gambling House continued to develop like this, would there still be a place for them in the capital in the future? That’s why he wanted Jiang Sheng and Luo Yang to find out details about Tian Long Gambling House as soon as possible. What was even more unexpected and made him want to pull his hair out in frustration was that Yu Bo Fei’s trusted aide, Gong Yun, had dared to spoil his plans.

The only explanation was that Tian Long Gambling House might be related to the Yu family.

The more that Fu Yuan Jian thought about it, the more that he felt that this must be the case. The Yu family has always been at odds with the Zhao family. This was a fact that the entire Jun Zi City knew. If Gong Yun received Yu Bo Fei’s instructions to obstruct Fu Yuan Jian, then that would make sense.

But he could scarcely imagine that even Yu Bo Fei only learned about this matter after it had happened.

While Fu Yuan Jian scolded his men for being incompetent, Gong Yun was also summoned by Yu Bo Fei. The reason for the summons was related to the day that Gong Yun took the imperial guards to Boss Zhao’s house.

Let Me Shoulder this Blame! 78

T/N: Arrrrgh, I’m so frustrated with myself. I wanted to translate all three chapters (one each for TBL, LMSTB, and FOD:XZX) yesterday night, but I fell asleep at my desk after translating this chapter of LMSTB and only part of TBL. I want to post both LMSTB and TBL tonight, but I’m not sure if I’ll get TBL done by tonight since I have to sleep early for a morning shift tomorrow, so I thought it best to just post LMSTB first and not make you guys wait any longer. Anyways, happy reading!

Chapter 78

The long lost abundance of power quickly filled his body.

“I need your assistance. You should already know the pope’s secret and also understand the method to check and balance his power*…”

[*T/N: I would’ve thought the god’s request would be to “kill the pope” or “to stop the pope,” but the raws used the word 制衡 zhi heng, which means “checks and balances” or “to check and balance power”]

“But I already don’t have time.”

Su Shi could not help furrowing his brows. After deliberating for a short period of time, he still interrupted the voice in his ears.

The amount of time that he could stay in this world was not directly related to the brand, but was determined by the system.

The total amount of time he could stay in the novice worlds was limited. He stayed in the last world for too long, so there were only forty-eight hours left. As long as that time was up, whether or not he was branded, he would still be forced to leave the world.

He had no way to explain these things, but according to previous experiences, these existences that were already at the divine level were more or less able to experience and understand the “rules” that constrain him.

“It doesn’t matter. Just now, I have terminated the flow of time in you.”

The voice seemed to have already made preparations. Laughing, it said, “You will have eternal life, and you will always have your present appearance and physique. As long as the law I leave behind is not destroyed, nothing on your body will change…”

Su Shi’s expression sank.

The only thing that could destroy the law left by the god of light was the power of the dark demon in the pope. If he didn’t want to be trapped in this world, he must drag the pope down to death with him as soon as possible.

And he didn’t know what level the protagonist has upgraded to at this point. If by any chance, the protagonist’s strength rose dramatically due to an unexpected turn of events and he got rid of the pope, then Su Shi would be met with extreme inconvenience.

The more he thought about it, the more worried he felt. Su Shi wanted nothing more than to get away immediately and run to the pope for a decisive battle. He agreed without hesitation.

“Okay, if there’s nothing else, then I will first go look for the pope–”

“Have a little more patience, at least wait until the absolution ceremony is over before you head off.”

Obviously, the god did not understand his abundant psychological struggle. The voice in his ear was still calm and unruffled. It unhurriedly spoke a line and then resumed its benevolent and gentle manner of speaking.

“My child, form now on, your sins have been forgive, and you are completely free. And all the sacrifices and investments you’ve made will all become a mirage shown to the lover that you care so much about and betted everything on…”

“Wait!”

Su Shi’s expression changed slightly, and he took a step forward hurriedly.

“He and I are not lovers. I prayed for him only because I hoped that he could upgrade his strength and defeat the pope–”

“…You aren’t?”

The voice paused abruptly. After hesitating for a long while, it spoke with some embarrassment in its tone.

Whether or not it was the same set of data, it must not be anymore.

Su Shi shook his head firmly, “No.”

“Oh…”

The voice weakly gave a sound of reply, and then stopped speaking.

The pure light power silently entered Su Shi’s body, but the ray of sunlight would soon fade away.

……

Su Shi raised a hand to support his aching head. “You already had him see it, didn’t you?”

Sunlight flashed between the shadows of the trees and then died down. Thick fog rapidly gathered, wrapping everything in its thick shroud once again.

“Some parts were also embellished as appropriate…”

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

After saying that, the god saw that Su Shi’s reaction was not too intense, felt a little relieved, hesitated for a moment, and finally sincerely continued to admit all the rest.

“…Also cut out the part of you running like a headless chicken in the forest, and matched it with background music.”

Su Shi’s breath got stuck. The body that was restored actually felt slightly faint, and there were bursts of pain in his stomach.

“In that kind of perilous life or death situation, your entire heart was full of him, so I thought–”

The voice apologetically explained, as if carefully gauging his expression before continued to speak in earnest.

“My child, you will stay young forever, you can just conveniently fall in love along the way, right?”
