Chapter 113.3 – Lin Family Matters

Steward Su went over to the horse carriage at once. When he saw the young master whom he had not seen for the past few months, his smile suddenly faltered. The handsome youth in front of him… was this really his young master?

Dong Lan and Xia Lan also froze.

The young master seemed to be the same as before, but also felt a bit different. The last time Steward Su saw him, the young master still had a relatively round face with a bit of baby fat to his cheeks. He not only grew in stature, but his appearance was even more mild and elegant. Right now, he was really a graceful youth.

“Young Master… you…” Steward Su’s tongue seemed to have been caught by a cat.

An Zi Ran did not know what they were thinking. He only thought that their attitude was a little strange, it did not seem like they were welcoming him back.

“Did something happen during my absence?”

Hearing this cool voice, it was indeed the young master. Steward Su finally recovered his senses, only to shake his head subconsciously, but then he nodded immediately after that reaction, which was extremely contradictory.

“Is it a yes or a no?” An Zi Ran was confused by him.

“Yes.” Steward Su replied firmly.

An Zi Ran frowned, “Does it have to do with Third Concubine and her daughter?”

Steward Su did not think that the young master’s intuition would be this accurate. He nodded. “It is indeed them. I was just planning to write to you, Young Master, to tell you about it when I received the news that you and gu ye were coming over.”

“Go in and then talk.”

“Yes.”

Although the new An family house was smaller than the old one, the layout inside was not much different from that of the old one. After moving in, Steward Su decided to arrange a new study room for An Zi Ran, and it was practically in the same location of the house as before. Even the things inside were arranged in much the same manner.

Nothing felt unfamiliar to An Zi Ran, but he also did not have the inclination to praise Steward Su’s meticulousness. After dismissing Dong Lan and Xiao Lan, only the three of them were left in the study room.

“Speak. Exactly what happened?”

As soon as Steward Su closed the door, An Zi Ran cut straight to the topic.

Steward Su considered the language a bit and then said, “Young Master, the matter is like this, ever since the second young miss married into the Lin family, there has not been a single peaceful day…”

The reason by Zheng Bi agreed to have her daughter marry into the Lin family was because of the family property. She realized that letting her daughter marry some influential official could garner a higher status and position, but at best she would merely be a concubine. The identity of a concubine was very awkward and embarrassing, this she understood deeply.

That day, when she saw the betrothal gifts from the Lin family, Zheng Bi had these thoughts. Which one was better, money or power? The average person would definitely think that power was better. In fact, she also thought so, but the premise was having the status of main wife. If it was being a concubine for life, then money was the better option.

So Zheng Bi thought of a plan.

She persuaded An Ke Xin to marry Lin Xin, and then conspired with her daughter to prepare to take the Lin family property.

As the saying went, mothers relied on their children for wealth.

The two women’s plan was to first have An Ke Xin give birth to a son for the Lin family, this way her position in the Lin family would raise a lot, and she would even have absolute say in the family. So after An Ke Xin married into the Lin family, Zheng Bi went around looking for some folk remedies that would help a woman conceive rapidly. But their plan could not trump change.

They never imagined that Lin Xin turned out to be a person with different appearances. Within half a month after the two got married, he showed his true face.

Lin Xin was an ambitious person. The reason he took An Ke Xin as a wife was not because he had fallen in love at first sight. He conspired to obtain the An family lands. Just as Zheng Bi had said, when An Chang Fu was still alive, he had said that he would include some real estate as a part of An Ke Xin’s dowry. But no one knew how Lin Xin had gotten a hold of this information.

It was a pity for him that the one he met was An Zi Ran. On the dowry list that An Zi Ran provided for An Ke Xin, there was no real estate listed, not even one acre.

The Lin family was greatly disappointed. But because of the An family, they did not dare to mistreat An Ke Xin.

February 2021 Update

Good news, I’m not dead and I haven’t gotten sick yet. (>﹏<)💦

Bad news, my work place is still grossly understaffed, and I’m chronically tired. Plus, Lunar New Year is coming up, so I have to do spring cleaning at home on top of everything else. I haven’t been able to check any of the comments that I get, so if you asked a question in the comments and I didn’t respond yet, that’s the reason.

On a brighter note, I’ve been translating a sentence here and there whenever I can, so I should hopefully have some regular updates out after the Lunar New Year. Please be patient with me a little longer. Thank you for understanding!

Chapter 113.2 – Lin Family Matters

Mei Yu Palace (Beautiful Jade Palace)

When she heard the news, Mei zhao yi’s stunningly beautiful face twisted in a split second. Right in front of the eunuch and the servant girl who were trembling with fear and trepidation, Mei zhao yi angrily swept the tea set on the table to the floor. The tea set broke into many fragments upon the floor.

“The emperor really conferred the title of Yan fei upon that cheap slut*?”

[*T/N: 贱人 jian ren – slut, cheap person, or b*tch]

Mei zhao yi tried hard to make her face look less fierce, but still failed. The formerly gorgeous face was flickering with malicious color. She looked just like a female ghost that had crawled out of the underworld.

The maidservant, Ning Liu, nodded hesitantly, “It’s true. The emperor has already passed the decree this morning and bestowed Zhao Zi Palace (Bright Purple Palace) to Yan fei niang niang*.”

[*T/N: 娘娘 niang niang – a respectful suffix for the empress or imperial concubines.]

Mei zhao yi’s face became more and more distorted. The emperor not only made that cheap slut Yan fei, but also gave her Zhao Zi Palace. This showed how much he valued that slut.

Obviously the title Yan fei and Zhao Zi Palace should be hers!

Mei zhao yi had always thought that both would be in her pocket, but this decree shattered her ambitions.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

It was not only her was shocked. Those most respected noble ladies were also alarmed. If it were just the title Yan fei then that would be fine, but Zhao Zi Palace had a great meaning in the harem, and the specific meaning could be seen just from the name of the palace.

Zhao Zi was a homonym for zhao zi*.

[*T/N: 招 zhao – to beckon; 子 zi – son, child]

This decree of the emperor’s clearly showed his extreme favoritism for this Yan fei niang niang. He liked her to the point that he wished for her to give the imperial family a son, an heir. This was an unprecedented favor. What virtues and capabilities did this Yan fei have to actually make the emperor favor her this much?

The whole harem was turbulent because of this decree.

Chong Ming Emperor was unlikely to have any peace in the upcoming period of time because of this, and would not have the time to pay attention to Fu Wu Tian’s whereabouts.

Imperial Cheng Palace

The news that Fu Wu Tian and An Zi Ran left Jun Zi City soon reached Fu Yuan Cheng’s ears. His first impression of An Zi Ran was good, although An Zi Ran was very estranged that day.

“Where are you going?”

The person who told him the news was Zhao Yi. He came to the main door of the Imperial Cheng Palace early in the morning. These two grew up together. After Fu Yuan Cheng’s palace was built, Zhao Yi would come over every so often. His visits were more diligent than anyone else’s.

Zhao Yi replied, “I heard that they’re going back to An Yuan County. An Yuan County is the hometown of Fu wang fei, and the An family business is there.”

Fu Yuan Cheng had also heard of this. Although he did not attend Fu Wu Tian’s wedding reception, he still paid attention to Fu Wu Tian for a period of time because of the military power that he held. He also knew a little about the An family. He, like other people, thought that An Zi Ran was as fat and ugly as rumors said.

Fu Yuan Cheng had sent someone to inquire about An Zi Ran, but at that time, the person that he had sent went directly to An Yuan County to poke around. At that time, An Zi Ran had lost weight, but he was definitely not as slender and handsome as now. This was the real reason for his interest in An Zi Ran.

However, unlike the emperor, he always felt that things could not be so simple. His impression of An Zi Ran was not only that of a fat and ugly person, but also those things he did in An Yuan County, which also impressed him.

Zhao Yi seemed to know what he was thinking, so he stepped forward and whispered something in his ear.

Fu Yuan Cheng smiled suddenly, “Are you sure?”

Zhao Yi nodded. “I also found out that that person is already relying on the first prince’s help.”

“A pity. What a pity!” Fu Yuan Cheng suddenly shook his head and sighed. His tone and voice seemed to have a touch of regret.

Zhao Yi knew what Fu Yuan Cheng felt was a pity. He also felt that it was a waste of opportunity.

……

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

After a day and a half, An Zi Ran and Fu Wu Tian finally reached An Yuan County. In order to get to Ali Xiang, they must pass through An Yuan County, but in order to pull the wool over other people’s eyes, they decided to stay in An Yuan County for two days.

The horse carriage stopped in front of the An family’s new house. Steward Su, who had received the news of their return, took Dong Lan and Xia Lan, who were left here by An Zi Ran, to wait by the main door of the new house early in the morning.

Fu Wu Tian lifted the curtain of the horse carriage. He held the two hands that stretched out from the interior of the carriage, and helped the person get off the carriage.

Chapter 81 (32.3)

Esmond nodded lightly, but didn’t answer. He leaned over, wanting to pick the other person up into his arms, but Su Shi lightly pressed down on his arm.

“I’m fine. Do you have a place to live?”

Su Shi said it very concisely, but Esmond still quickly understood what he meant. Esmond nodded somewhat calmly, took his hand, and turned into another street.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Su Shi followed him without talking, only walking quietly, but inexplicably his mood gradually relaxed.

He let out a sigh of exhausted relief. He was so tired that it was getting hard to walk.

Esmond led him for a while. Then his steps seemed to slow as he looked at the youth yawning behind him, and his eyes finally begin to gradually gain gentle warmth.

Su Shi was so sleepy that he had his head lowered as he walked forward. Not paying attention, he ended up bumping his head against the other.

“Tired?”

A deep, mellow voice rang by his ear. The tone was soft and gentle, making his heart tremble inexplicably.

Although there was still resistance to forcefully falling in love, his heart still instinctively softened. Su Shi didn’t answer. Honestly letting the other hold his hand, he nodded reluctantly under the hood.

Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels (dot) com

The progress was so fast. Su Shi didn’t know what the god of light had shown to the other person…

[T/N: I don’t know if I translated this part well, but here Su Shi feels that it’s not right for the god of light to force Esmond to fall in love with him by showing him Ivan’s tragic past, yet he can’t help being a softy to Esmond.]

Su Shi had yet to thoroughly come out of his thoughts about the god of light’s previous actions. He subconsciously raised his head. Before he could open his mouth, Esmond embraced him again with a smile.

“Close your eyes.”

The hug was firm and warm, separating him from all the darkness and cold outside.

A wave of tiredness washed over him. Su Shi relaxed and closed his eyes. He leaned on Esmond’s shoulder. Suddenly, his entire body was brought into a mysterious spatial fluctuation.

In the span of a few breaths, Esmond had already picked him up into his arms, took off the black robe on his body, and gently laid him down on a bed.

Su Shi did not know when they had arrived at a wooden house. The corner was quietly lit with warm yellow candlelight. The smooth and cozy bed accommodated his weary body in a flash.

Su Shi blinked. He raised a hand to hold on to Esmond’s arm.

“Don’t worry. It’s very remote here. No one will find us.”

Esmond spoke warmly. He gathered the youth lying on the bed into his arms. His whole body bubbled up with a warm stream of air, and helped the other person remove the dust on his body.

“I have mastered the trick to teleportation, just now it was just–”

It was just that he suddenly found the night scene to be very nice.

So he wanted to walk around a bit and not have to think about the responsibilities they carried or the desperate crisis they were in. He just wanted to take a nice walk with the person that he wanted to keep by his side no matter what.

He didn’t say it out loud. He just brushed the youth’s soft hair with his hand. A warm smiling expression flowed from his eyes. Feeling extremely light and satisfied, he stretched out and let out a breath.

Su Shi looked at him quietly and his chest suddenly felt painful.

“Have a good rest. I’ll go get you something to eat.”

Esmond didn’t ask him anything. He merely leaned over and pressed their cheeks together.

The youth’s soft hair rubbed against one side of his cheek, making him unconsciously unknot his brows. And the corners of his lips softly turned up. Esmond held his breath. He wanted to kiss Su Shi, but hesitated. In the end, he just rubbed the other’s hair with a smile.

Holy Paladins were all proud. Although he could hardly restrain his impulse, he would never rashly do anything against the will of the other party.

He straightened up, intending to find some food for the young man who had been traveling for two days, but suddenly realized that the strength on his arm had still not relaxed.

“If–”

Su Shi looked at Esmond. He almost regretted it the moment he opened his mouth, but he still hardened his heart and continued on.

“If I leave when it’s dawn, can you not be sad?”

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

The arm he was holding suddenly tensed, as if cramped by excessive force. Then he forced himself to relax a little.

Esmond turned back and knelt down beside the bed. He flipped his hand around to hold the other’s hand. His eyes were still warm. “Okay.”

All of a sudden, intense grief gripped him ruthlessly and spread throughout his chest. Su Shi subconsciously held his breath, gripped onto that hand, and not allowing the other to speak he used all his strength to pull the other tightly into his arms.

Su Shi understood without a doubt who the person in front of him was.

Unstoppable water vapor suddenly emerged from his eyes, and even his body could not help trembling lightly. The accumulated emotions that he suppressed through three worlds finally surged up violently and poured out.

Even the deities were blessing them.

Chapter 16 – One Year

Rumors such as: the crown prince ordered hundreds of thousands of prisoners of war to be buried alive, the crown prince liked to sadistically kill children, and even, the crown prince liked to eat human flesh, etc, circulated around and continued to spread despite prohibition.

The common people’s ability to differentiate between truth and lies was poor. They tended to listen and believe just like that. When it came to stories about the royalty, they discussed even more enthusiastically. The more a story was prohibited from spreading, the more curious they became.

In Yong Shou Palace, the empress had just gotten Zhou momo to handle several eunuchs who were spreading rumors.

“Don’t be angry, Imperial Mother. It’s not worth it if your anger affects your health.” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng said to her consolingly from her side. “Originally, the incident this time was not so serious, it’s because the Xue family is adding fuel to the fire, and that’s why it blew up like this.”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

“It’s that Xue family again, but your imperial father said that they won’t be able to hop around for long.” The empress thought of the crown princess and was able to let loose a knot of angry air. To the outside world, the crown princess was confined to bed due to illness, but the truth was that she had already “died from illness.”

[T/N: “died from illness” – she really is dead, but it’s in quotation marks, because the so-called illness was manufactured and not natural]

Er’chen would also like to thank Imperial Mother. This time, while I was away on campaign, you helped to clean up my palace. It’s been exhausting for Imperial Mother, I* have troubled you.”

[*T/N: There is no pronoun in the raws, but I add them occasionally to make the sentence smoother in English.]

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng did not bring Yuan Fu on this expedition, but instead, left him at the palace to coordinate with his imperial mother to clean up the crown prince’s East Palace.

While he was not in the palace, many saboteurs had eased up their vigilance. Now these people have been cleaned up, and the crown princess’s people have been secretly taken down. After obtaining the method for how they contacted the li wang, these people were all exterminated. Now the ones in contact with li wang were all Xuan Yuan Han Cheng’s shadow guards, and they did not let li wang find out that there was anything unusual.

“There’s no need for thanks between us.” The empress patted the crown prince’s shoulder.

He said he was not worried, but the empress still could not help worrying when she thought of the impact these rumors would have on the crown prince’s reputation.

At night, the emperor came to Yong Shou Palace to sleep and saw the empress sitting on the bed frowning.

“Your Majesty, look at how cacophonous these rumors have gotten. Originally, I was going to wait for Cheng Er* to come back and help him get a side concubine. Now the rumors are flying everywhere. I’m afraid the ministers will have ulterior motives. This candidate is not easy to decide.” The empress complained to the emperor.

[*T/N: Nickname for Xuan Yuan Han Cheng]

“Don’t worry about it, zhen* is already working on it. In fact, rumors come and go quickly. As long as there is new news, people will slowly forget the old ones. Cheng Er’s body still needs to be conditioned. There is no hurry.”

[*T/N: 朕 zhen – pronoun for the emperor]

“But Cheng Er’s reputation still needs to be mended.” The empress thought about it and suddenly a light bulb flashed in her head. “Your Majesty, you see, in three months it will be the Mid-Autumn Festival. How about having the next imperial decree be reuniting the palace servants with their families on Mid-Autumn Festival. This is an unprecedented grace, which could also help Cheng Er amass some good fortune.”

“This is a good idea. We need to be more attentive to the regulations. We have to properly arrange the time and place for the palace servants and their families to reunite. When the palace servants leave the palace, they must go through a body search, and there needs to be more guards. We can’t let anyone take advantage of loopholes.” The emperor thought more. “Okay, tomorrow zhen will have people arrange it. You don’t have to think about it anymore. Let’s go to sleep earlier.”

In the Royal Snack Kitchen, Lin Jia Bao was kneading the dough while listening to Yu Ling and Yu Long chat. “I heard that His Royal Highness was reincarnated under a murderous star, that’s why his anger is so difficult to deal with.”

Yu Ling, do you want to die! His Royal Highness is a brilliant general and a great hero.” Yu Long heard Yu Ling talking about the crown prince like this and angrily rebutted.

“Please don’t talk anymore, big sisters. If Lin momo came over and heard you, it would not be good.” Lin Jia Bao advised.

“Humph!” Yu Long sneered coldly.

Lin momo came back with a smile on her face, and Yu Shuang, who came back together with her, could not conceal her excitement. “There is good news, wonderfully good news!”

Yu Ling was the most energetic. She circled around her and asked, “What good news? What good news?”

Lin momo announced with a smile. “This year, the crown prince led troops and won decisively against the barbarians. To celebrate, the empress passed a decree, during the Mid-Autumn Festival this year, the palace servants can reunite with their families!”

“Really? Truly? Everyone can be reunited with their families? Even me?”

“Everyone can. At that time, the palace will arrange everyone into batches. Everyone will have two hours to meet with their families. The notices are posted.”

“This is great! The empress is so kind, ah!” Everyone was very excited and happy. After years of leaving home, there was no better news than reunion with their families.

Chapter 10 – Breakfast Delivery

Xi Duan did not go with them to the supermarket. He was too busy.

Fortunately, there was another car in the villa’s garage. Xi Duan had the driver, Xiao Liu, drive Duan Shu Tong to the supermarket to go shopping, while he and Cen Ning took another car.

After coming back, it was soon time to eat. Duan Shu Tong invited Xiao Liu to eat, but Xiao Liu was called out again.

Cooking was not easy.

Shopping was a very physical activity, and Duan Shu Tong was a little tired. Plus, he was the only one eating, so he just made a dozen quick-frozen dumplings.

Duan Shu Tong sighed lightly when he thought about how there were no products developed by the Spring and Autumn Hall on the supermarket shelves.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Calling it a pool of stagnant water was overestimating the Spring and Autumn Hall. It was not even a splash of water.

Let’s not talk about facial skin care products, but couldn’t you even produce a simple hand cream?

After eating, he went out on a walk to help digest his meal. Along the way, he went to the barbershop and shaved an inch off his hair, and then he went to the shopping mall and bought a few casual wear outfits.

When he returned back to the villa, he spent some time bent over the desk drafting up a development plan for the future of the Spring and Autumn Hall. The more he wrote, the more he sighed.

Forget it. You couldn’t get fat from eating one bite. You had to take it step by step.

While Duan Shu Tong was thinking about how to develop things in the future, over at the Spring and Autumn Hall, the grassroots unit’s online forum was already abuzz with chatter.

[Have you heard?! Some big character is coming over from Yan City!]

[What big person? Are they coming for an inspection? Should we clean up tomorrow?]

[What inspection! They’re coming to train at the grassroots level. I heard that they’re going to the R&D Department. Wouldn’t that mean they’re taking over Director He’s position? @R&D Department – Xiao Wang: How is your director feeling today?]

[Doesn’t he always have the same coffin face? Is it possible to tell how he feels? But it seems like there is indeed someone coming. As for which job position, it is unclear.]

[Why are you so informed? I don’t know anything.]

[I have classmates working for the Duan family in Yan City.]

[I have relatives there, and their chat group is crazy, like a big holiday.]

[What do you mean? Is this some unlikeable big character?]

[Oh my god, just who in the world is it? Why do I feel a cold shiver down my back? We are just a small temple here. We can’t fit this big Buddha.]

[I received the exact news. This big man is Young Master Duan. [Lights incense.] [Lights incense.] [Lights incense.]]

[Miss Human Resources Big Sister, is this Young Master Duan that Young Master Duan?]

[Emmmmm. Is he really coming here to work? This time an arrogant idler is coming. I pity everyone in the R&D Department.]

……

Early the next morning, as the horizon became white, Duan Shu Tong ran a few laps around the villa area.

There were very few people here and there were trees planted on both sides of the road. It was quite suitable for jogging. He also bought some snacks for along the way.

After taking a shower, the congee was already done cooking, and it was only half past six. He thought about it and then sent a message to Cen Ning.

Cen Ning and Xiao Liu lived with Xi Duan. They had heavy work tasks today, and they had to be on site at seven o’ clock, but yesterday they did not come back until the wee hours of night. They barely got a few hours of sleep. They were sleepy as heck when they got up.

Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels (dot) com

As for breakfast? There was no such thing! No time!

Just as they were about to go out, Cen Ning received a WeChat message from Duan Shu Tong.

Young Master Duan: Are you awake yet? Did you have breakfast? I made extra congee, and also bought extra dim sum.

Cen Ning showed Xi Duan the meassage.

Xi Duan: “Let’s leave.” He didn’t have time for breakfast.

Cen Ning could only reply: Thank you for your kindness, Young Master Duan, but we have to leave now.

Young Master Duan: When you guys go out, pass by my front door. Just stop for a while.

Cen Ning asked Xi Duan again.

Xi Duan nodded. Stopping for a little bit would not hinder them.

When the car drove up to the Duan villa, Cen Ning caught sight of a young man by the door right away. He wore an ordinary white t-shirt and jeans, and he stood at the front of the courtyard, looking towards them.

Was this Young Master Duan?! Where was the bleached hair?! Where were the skulls?!

Chapter 8 – Don’t Like Him

Qu Yuqin has a brother complex. He could not endure Qiu Jin’s pleading. Moreover, Qiu Jin was giving him this kind of guarantee. He was silent for a long while, and then finally he squeezed out a sentence: “I’ll indulge you for the last time, you better do a good job for me.”

Qiu Jin: “Thank you, Brother! I will work hard!”

“I don’t expect you to have the same prosperity as the other one in the family, just don’t cause trouble for me.” Qiu Yuqin’s voice slowed down, “I still have matters to attend to, I’m hanging up now.”

“Okay, bye.”

Qiu Jin went to the bathroom and washed his face. When he raised his head, he couldn’t help but startled.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

This face was almost exactly the same as his previous two lives. Perhaps because his gender was an alpha now, so he was not as delicate as his omega self, it was much more similar to his original appearance and figure.

Especially his deep eyes, they could grab people’s attention almost instantaneously, and that angular face did not seem to have any vulnerable spots.

Laughter, sorrow, crying, anger, affection, despair… this face could accurately express various expressions—this was a face born for the camera.

If it weren’t because his methods were too low, with this kind of appearance, he might really have the opportunity to catch up with Xiang Xi.

Although it was not comparable to Ji Shenxiao, the protagonist who was favored by God, it was still an amazing existence in the entertainment circle.

This body was also very attractive. It was one point eight meters tall and covered with a layer of supple and strong muscles from head to foot. He had a pair of slender and powerful legs. He had both pectoral muscles and abdominal muscles. His body was the type that was not exaggerated, but was especially seductive.

No wonder he still had fans that liked him despite his spotty and blackened reputation.

It was just that his taste was too terrible. He had a head of silver hair that fell to his shoulders. It made him look dispirited corpse in mourning. But Qiu Jin was only twenty-one years old this year. He looked tender enough to squeeze out water*. He was still at the age where ordinary people would be studying in college.

[*T/N: Describing someone as “tender enough to squeeze out water” is like saying they’re youthful with bouncy and full skin, as in their skin is full of moisture, not dry and wrinkly.]

Even more terrible was his taste in clothing. Qiu Jin opened the closet and found that there were very few serious clothes in it, but there were a pile of chest-revealing vests, and jeans that hung at the buttocks. There was no way he could wear any of them.

Qiu Jin went to the mall the next day and bought a lot of new clothes. Fortunately, the original host still had a lot of money. Although he didn’t work for half a year, his elder brother regularly gave him money.

At nine o’ clock in the morning, the shopping mall was extremely deserted, and Qiu Jin was wearing a pair of super black sunglasses, so the cashiers and salespeople did not recognize him.

After buying clothes, he went to a corner barbershop to dye his hair black, but Mr. Tony, the hairstylist, did not agree.

“Silver suits your skin tone so well, ah.” Mr. Tony rotated his face around, admiring him. “It doesn’t look good right now mainly because the hair is too long and somewhat thick, so it makes you look lethargic.”

Qiu Jin: “I want to cut it short and dye it black.”

“Really, trust me. It will make a big difference if I thin it out for you a bit. If it doesn’t look good, I won’t take your money, okay?”

Qiu Jin: “I want to cut it short and dye it black.”

Mr. Tony hummed in response and nodded his head in resignation.

Only then did Qiu Jin close his eyes with ease and straightforwardly napped to make up for his lack of sleep.

Yesterday, his brain received too much information in a short period of time, and then he drew up a rough plan for his future. He only went to sleep in the wee hours of the night.

After an unknown period of time, he heard Mr. Tony say, “finish cutting.”

Qiu Jin opened his eyes and saw a completely different image in the mirror.

He still had a head of silver hair, but this time it was quite refreshing and neat. Matched with his fair and pure face, he looked like winter hoarfrost on a tree, biting cold but also beautiful.

But a gleaming red ear stud in the left ear broke through this coldness, giving off an alluring feel. Coupled with the faint tear mole in the corner of his eye, it was enough to seduce people’s souls.

A few strands of hair behind his ears were slightly longer, falling onto his ascetic black shirt, making him appear even more reserved and adverse to disrespectful trifling. Compared to his previous style of selling flesh, it was more alpha-like by several degrees.

This Tony’s artistic taste was quite high. Qiu Jin has never tried this image before, but the effect was better than he had imagined. He didn’t insist on dying his hair black anymore. He paid the bill and left the barbershop.

Chapter 10.1 – A World With Only Two People*

[*T/N: A world with only two people usually refers to a romantic couple.]

Ever since he assembled the villain system, Zhou Yun Sheng has successively bought many more parts and plans to make some more practical models. Some parts were not available on the market, so Xue Zi Xuan directly ordered several machine tools for him and had them sent to the Xue Manor, which indirectly led to the repeated expansion of the garage.

Xue Rui’s prestige in the company continued to decline. His good son not only won over a majority of the company’s elite backbone, but he also took advantage of Xue Yan’s financial crisis to acquire a heavy machinery manufacturing company under his banner.

This was related to Huang Yi who was currently studying mechanics on his own. It was clear that this generous merger and acquisition was for the boy.

The entire Xue family was in a state of being suppressed by a low pressure. Xue Rui greatly regretted it. If he had known earlier that his son would be so ruthless and domineering when doing things and turn him into a figurehead as soon as he stepped on the business world stage, then he would have never made him retire from the music stage.

Xue Li Dan Ni was also dissatisfied. Anyone who got home after getting off the plane only to find that their favorite greenhouse has been demolished and transformed into a workshop would be in a state of collapse.

She stood at the door of the workshop and scowled. The little bastard didn’t speak a word to her, didn’t give her a single glance, and just turned on the rumbling machine tool, drowning out her voice and making her powerless from head to toe.

Her proper upbringing restricted her from rushing over there and trying to tear the boy apart with her bare hands. She could only grit her teeth and leave.

She waited for her son to get off work and immediately went to the entrance to ask him: “Why did you tear down my greenhouse?”

“I’ll have a new one built for you.” Xue Zi Xuan said casually as he bent over and changed his shoes. “I had the gardener move your flowers to the eastern flowerbed. Currently, they’re well taken care of. I took a fancy to a building under construction, Royal Court, have you heard of it?”

Xue Li Dan Ni calmed down at her son’s breezy attitude and nodded.

“I’ve heard of it. It’s in the southern suburbs. The villa area is near the mountains and by the water. The environment is very good.”

“It’s good as long as you like it. I have already bought Building 1 in Block A. This is the key. It has a swimming pool, back garden, glass greenhouse, and piano room. If you have time soon, pack up and move there to live with Father.”

He had originally prepared this house for himself and his teenager, but since Xue Yan no longer posed a threat, it was more convenient to live here. At least the space here was large enough for expanding the workshop.

Xue Li Dan Ni was confused. After a long while she asked in a dumb voice: “Are you driving us away?”

“If you don’t want to move, I can take Xiao Yi to live there.” Xue Zi Xuan changed his shoes, walked into the living room, saw Xue Jing Yi curled up on the sofa, and added: “That’s right, I contacted a Swiss nursing home. The conditions are very nice. You guys send her away in a few days.”

Xue Jing Yi nearly smashed the TV remote control in her hand, and Xue Li Dan Ni jumped like thunder.

“You’re crazy! Not only are you sending us away, but you also want to send your little sister away? Are you heartless, huh? Go, go to the hospital with me, I’ll have the doctor look you over, see if I forgot to give you a heart when I birthed you.”

As she spoke, Xue Li Dan Ni began to cry. She couldn’t bear any more changes. Xue Jing Yi hurried to her side and hugged her to comfort her. She stared at her elder brother with tearful eyes and wailed: “Brother, don’t send me away, okay? How can I live alone abroad? Are you trying to push me to my death?”

Xue Zi Xuan was unmoved and went upstairs with his briefcase.

When Zhou Yun Sheng returned to the Xue manor, he was greeted by the resentful eyes of Xue Li Dan Ni and Xue Jing Yi. He arched an eyebrow in surprise, but did not ask anything, and swayed up the stairs to the second floor.

Xue Li Dan Ni was struck speechless by his unconcerned attitude: “If we had known earlier that things would turn out like this, then we would not have brought him here back then. Your father and I originally wanted to save you, but how could we have foreseen that we would harm you instead, and also harm your brother.”

Xue Jing Yi had completely calmed down. Perhaps because of too much stimulation lately, she clearly felt that her mental capacity was getting stronger and stronger. If it were in the past and she heard that her brother was going to send her away, she would have passed out in agony long ago, but now she was sitting peacefully, and she could even grasp the key points of Xue Mother’s words.

“Save me? How could he save me?”

A terrible but extremely longing thought crossed Xue Jing Yi’s mind.

Chapter 9.8 – Children Are Debt

With all sorts of feelings welling up in his heart, Xue Zi Xuan embraced the teenager, who was half lying on the sofa, and kissed him densely.

Zhou Yun Sheng was long accustomed to this kissing maniac’s occasional insane behavior. He simultaneously evaded the rain of kisses while skillfully assembling the parts in his hands.

If the assistant did not knock on the door and said that there was some matter to attend to, Zhou Yun Sheng was afraid that the other party would kiss off a layer of his face.

When the assistant entered the room, the boss was cupping the teenager’s cheeks in his hands and loudly kissing the tip of his nose, forehead, brows, etc. The youth’s fair, tender, and smooth face was damp from kisses. It was evident that the youth suffered greatly. Not only this, the boss even tugged down the teenager’s turtleneck sweater and bit down on the juncture of his lazy neck.

His iceberg of a boss became a perverted fool in a split second. The assistant somewhat could not accept the sight in front of him. He stood there dumbly holding onto the file and even forgot to close the door.

If it weren’t for the teenager pushing the boss away and saying impatiently, “go,” the assistant dared to wager that the boss would keep kissing the teenager until the end of time. He seemed exceedingly happy. His smile was pure and brilliant, like a carefree child without worries.

Xue Zi Xuan let go of the youth with reluctance, still wishing to continue kissing him. He turned and read the documents the assistant brought in.

Seeing that the other party had no time to harass him, Zhou Yun Sheng sped up his actions and finally finished assembling the small half a foot tall robot. Xue Zi Xuan was very generous with him and gave him his credit card to use. He could buy whatever he wanted and there was no upper limit.

As people say, return a favor for a favor. Seeing that it was Xue Zi Xuan’s birthday soon, Zhou Yun Sheng used the remaining spare parts that he had leftover to make a small plaything for the other party.

Zhou Yun Sheng was still not sure what kind of feelings Xue Zi Xuan held for him, but he has confirmed that the other person would not hurt him, because no one would be willing to spend so much time and money on a heart donor.

After Xue Zi Xuan signed the documents and the assistant took the file back out, Zhou Yun Sheng placed the egg-shaped robot on the floor and waved to Xue Zi Xuan.

“Come and see if you like it.”

“What is this?” Xue Zi Xuan circled around the little robot.

“This is my early birthday gift to you. It’s a small robot for venting. If you feel too stressed or angry, you can kick it without restraint, it will not break.” Zhou Yun Sheng tapped the bright alloy shell of the robot. His smile was a bit strange. “Ah, that’s right, it is called the villain system.”

Although the function of the robot was rather compelling in its wackiness and the name was also very strange, Xue Zi Xuan still felt very happy. He hugged the teenager from behind, gently swayed side to side twice, smiled against the youth’s ear, and asked, “Can it be started up? Or is it simply for display?”

“It can be started up. I’ll demonstrate for you.” Zhou Yun Sheng kicked the villain system over and explained, “Its start up method is entirely dependant on shock. There is no start up switch on the exterior. If you kick it, it will move.”

Sure enough, the egg-like little robot grew short hands and feet. Chak chak. It took two steps; suddenly it knelt down and continuously kowtowed. In a funny electronic voice, it repeatedly said: “Master, I am wrong. Master, spare me!”

Xue Zi Xuan’s expression was subtle. There was no denying that this little robot’s assembly was extremely refined. Its shape was also very unique. However, the function was very sinister.

Zhou Yun Sheng did not realize this point at all. He stepped forward and viciously kicked the robot again. The robot rolled with a clattering sound, and then it tenaciously crawled up and incessantly slapped itself: “Master, I am wrong. Master, spare me! Villain system will work like a horse and toil like an ox* for Master for all eternity…”

[*T/N: work like a horse and toil like an ox = to slave for somebody]

The real villain system that detected this scene: “…”

Xue Zi Xuan looked on, dumbfounded, until the teenager struggled free from his arms to go kick the robot again did he return to his senses. “Xiao Yi, this is the first birthday gift you gave me, I can’t bear it.” He picked up the little robot, feeling distressed.

The villain system did not appreciate the sentiment. It sincerely begged: “Requesting Master to kick me at the frequency of three meals a day, please! The villain system kowtows to the master!”

For a moment, Xue Zi Xuan didn’t know what to do. Holding the robot was no good, and kicking it was no good. In his heart, he thought that Xiao Yi was really naughty. Why did he give this robot such a cheap setting? But no matter how cheap it was, he still liked it very much.

Zhou Yun Sheng fell on the sofa. He clutched his stomach as he laughed, causing the villain system to issue warnings repeatedly, telling the host not to make personal attacks against the villain system.

But so what? The villain system had long unwittingly lost the advantageous position that allowed it to call the shots. In the future, it will lose even more control power.

Chapter 113.1 – Lin Family Matters

The 27th year of Chong Ming Emperor’s reign, November 15th, clear skies.

An Zi Ran and Fu Wu Tian finally set off for Ali Xiang. They left quietly. There were people keeping tabs on them in secret, but they would only think that Fu Wu Tian was accompanying An Zi Ran back home to An Yuan County.

After all, An Zi Ran had a family business in An Yuan County. Last time he went back, they stayed in An Yuan County for a long time. Even if they stayed pass the new year in An Yuan County, no one would find that suspicious, furthermore, they needed to pass through An Yuan County to get to Ali Xiang.

This time when they passed by the tea shed again, they no longer saw a large number of stick-thin farmers migrating to Maple City.

Along the way, they would occasionally hear people talking about Fu Wu Tian.

The contents of their dialogue focused around the biggest corruption case in Hong Province’s history and the disaster in Chang Province. Most of them were praising Fu Wu Tian.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

To the common people, they worshipped whoever could allow them to have food to eat and clothes to wear. So after the two incidences in Hong Province and Chang Province, Fu Wu Tian’s reputation in these two places surpassed the emperor.

This incident spread to the ears of the Chong Ming Emperor.

The emperor was very angry, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Chong Ming Emperor had thought of sending officials to take the credit for Fu Wu Tian’s work, but Fu Wu Tian did a terrific job. Starting from the corruption case in Hong Province, he acted with great fanfare. At that time, many people had focused their attention on him, including those from several neighboring provinces.

Then later, Fu Wu Tian used all the money that he confiscated from the corrupt officials to mitigate the disaster in Chang Province, which helped him gain a very good reputation.

At that time, the Chong Ming Emperor already knew that it was impossible to send someone else to intervene in this matter. Fortunately for the emperor, he found an excuse to take back Fu Wu Tian’s military power. At long last, resolving one of the worries in his mind.

Hearing these rumors again, he did not get angry like before when he heard Fu Wu Tian’s name. He thought that Fu Wu Tian had no military power, so even if the people supported him, he could not make any big waves, thus he went back to indulging in the beauties within the harem everyday.

In the last talent selection, the harem count increased by dozens more beauties.

Chong Ming Emperor remembered that there was a beauty that was particularly special, always making him unable to stop himself. For one month straight, he showed special favor towards that beauty.

This was unprecedented.

The emperor was very lecherous, and he had never favored any beauty for more than a month, including Mei zhao yi*, who possessed remarkable beauty. She was the one who calmed his temper in the Imperial Study Room. At that time, the emperor gave her special favor for half a month. Just that half a month’s time was enough to make many concubines in the harem incessantly jealous.

[*T/N: 美昭仪 Mei zhao yi – this is her concubine title, not her name. ‘Mei’ means beauty and ‘zhao yi’ is the concubine rank.]

However, it was only half a month. In the end, she only got raised to the main second-level zhao yi*. She couldn’t even advance to one of the si fei*. This led to a lot of other concubines rejoicing in her misfortune.

[*T/N: Her rank is 正二品的昭仪 zheng er pin de zhao yi. According to baidu, 昭仪 zhao yi is a type of concubine placed in the Western Han Dynasty during the Yuan Emperor period. Apparently, at that time, it was second only to the empress. I’m guessing the author is using a mishmash of concubine rankings from different time periods, or perhaps she’s using a ranking system from a time period that I’m unfamiliar with (which is highly likely), because the text then goes on to mention 四妃 si fei (four concubines), which sounds like it’s higher than zhao yi based on context, but clashes with the baidu definition. However, I am aware that in certain dynasties the top three concubine ranks are: 皇后 empress, 皇贵妃 huang gui fei, and then 贵妃 gui fei. In this ranking system, there can only be 1 empress, 1 huang gui fei, and 4 gui fei. The huang gui fei is practically equal to the empress, so most of the time a gui fei would get the title posthumously.]

This was all until that particular beauty appeared.

At first, no one thought that she would be favored for a longer period of time than Mei zhao yi, but as it happened the results were contrary to their expectations.

Countless concubines in the harem nearly grinded their teeth into powder. They were confident that their appearance was not worse than that beauty, but why did the emperor favor her?

No one could figure it out, including some of the most respected noble ladies in the harem.

Then a subsequent decree astounded them all. Chong Ming Emperor went as far as to skip over discussion with Zhang Sun Empress. Without even saying a word to her, the emperor conferred the title of Yan fei upon that beauty, and she became the last fei among the si fei.

Although it was only one level away from Mei zhao yi, it was like a chasm that could not be bridged. In an instance, the identity gap between the two people widened. This kind of difference was not something that could be measured between a main second-level concubine and a side second-level concubine.
