Chapter 6 – The Invisible Specialized Top Student

The students in the room could not help feeling keyed up as they watched Yu Bai Zhou just standing there on stage. In contrast, Cheng Jia Hui’s mood slowly relaxed from her initial tension. Just now, she was only choked by Yu Bai Zhou’s momentum.

There was no need to even think about it. There was no way that someone at Yu Bai Zhou’s level could solve this problem. Remaining on the stage was just due to that pathetic little unyielding spirit in his bones.

It was merely a false alarm.

Cheng Jia Hui looked at her watch. Two minutes have passed. She took a sip of water slowly, and then with an expression like she was watching a play unfold she asked, “Yu Bai Zhou, there are only three minutes left. Are you sure you can do it?”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Yu Bai Zhou did not answer.

Cheng Jia Hui held up her hands. “I advise you, if you can do it, then hurry up and get off the stage, don’t delay other people’s…”

Cheng Jia Hui spoke up to here and saw that Yu Bai Zhou had picked up the stick of chalk and began to answer the problem.

Cheng Jia Hui frowned slightly.

In those two minutes, Yu Bai Zhou had already more or less sorted out his train of thoughts.

Cheng Jia Hui originally had an attitude of Schadenfreude, but after looked at the calculation formula written by Yu Bai Zhou, her expression abruptly collapsed.

The students in their seats all looked shocked.

“I say, Young Master Yu can do it?”

“He’s really not making stuff up?”

“But if it’s just random nonsense, then he’s making it up really fast!”

The chalk in Yu Bai Zhou’s hand did not stop at all. The handwriting was beautiful and the writing was fluent.

Beneath everyone’s incredulous gaze, he wrote down the solution. At this time, there was only one minute left of the five-minute time limit.

He put down the chalk in his hand and turned his head back to face the stiff as a board, Cheng Jia hui. He quirked up the corner of his lips.

“Teacher, may I trouble you to check the answer?”

Cheng Jia Hui looked at the correct answer on the blackboard, and could not help loosening her grip on the teaching stick in her hand.

How could this be?

This was the super hard question that she specifically gathered from the college entrance exam. According to Yu Bai Zhou’s level of academics, how could he have possibly solved it? In addition, the logical reasoning behind the solution was unexpectedly even more concise than the only answer given on the answer sheet.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Cheng Jia Hui’s face was ashen gray.

One of the students asked out loud, “Mrs. Cheng, is Young Master Yu’s solution correct or not?”

Cheng Jia Hui froze for a few seconds before she stiffly replied, “…It’s correct.”

A wave of disturbance went through the students in the room.

“WTF, Young Master Yu, awesome!”

“Yu Bai Zhou is an invisible specialized* top student!”

[*T/N: 偏科 pian ke – to overemphasize some topic (at the expense of others)]

“Young Master Yu, my male god!”

“I love campus domineers!”

What Cheng Jia Hui did not know was that Yu Bai Zhou was once a third year graduate student who solved these questions on the daily. The problem that she had picked on him to solve, Yu Bai Zhou had done it no less than ten times already. Also, Yu Bai Zhou’s college entrance examination results could be ranked as Top 1 in his original world.

Cheng Jia Hui clenched the teaching stick in her hand, took a deep breath, and put on a mask again to cover up the real panic on her face.

Just as she thought that things would end like this, Yu Bai Zhou opened his mouth to remind her, “Teacher, if you agree to a bet you must accept it when you lose. You owe me an apology.”

After hearing this, Cheng Jia Hui’s complexion suddenly became difficult to look at, and all the sounds below the stage came to a halt.

Yu Bai Zhou waited. All the classmates were watching.

If you ride a tiger, it was hard to get off, meaning it was impossible to stop things halfway.

Cheng Jia Hui squeezed the teaching stick in her hand, and in the end she could barely manage to spit out an apology through gritted teeth.

During the break between classes, Tu Gao Ming came over to grumble about Cheng Jia Hui. Yu Bai Zhou listened and nodded. He folded up a piece of paper with a five-in-a-row game draw on it and casually stuck it in between the pages of a book as a bookmark.

“Did you guys notice that He Yan did not come to class this afternoon?”

“Seems like it.”

“Unprecedented. So, actually, as it turns out, the top student would also skip class?”

“So what if he’s the top student? He has such a weird personality, and he also sits in the corner. His sense of existence is too low. You see? The teacher didn’t even look for him.”

When Yu Bai Zhou heard the people around him mentioning He Yan, his ears perked up in alert.

Chapter 5 – The Invisible Specialized* Top Student

[*T/N: “Specialized” as in being very good in one field or topic to the detriment of other subjects.]

When his name was called out, Yu Bai Zhou paused for two seconds.

One after another, all the other students let out sighs of relief.

“Why did you pick Young Master Yu? Most people can’t solve such a difficult problem, how can Young Master Yu do it?”

“Che, Poison Tongue Cheng is starting to make things difficult for Young Master Yu again.”

Cheng Jia Hui banged hard on the table with a teaching stick and said seriously: “Whoever talks again can go stand still in the hallway for punishment.”

Hearing these words, the class abruptly became quiet.

Cheng Jia Hui experienced the quiet atmosphere with satisfaction. Then she raised the teaching stick and pointed at Yu Bai Zhou, “You, come up and do the question.”

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Yu Bai Zhou looked at the teaching stick that was pointed at him rudely. Although he knew that Cheng Jia Hui was targeting the original host and not himself, he still felt a little uncomfortable.

He got up, left his seat, and walked up onto the stage.

At his seat, Tu Gao Ming gritted his teeth with hate for Cheng Jia Hui.

This time, it was evident that Cheng Jia Hui wanted to give their boss a hard time. As the class teacher, she clearly knew the academic level of their boss, yet she still knowingly made their boss go up and do this super hard question. She was clearly taking this opportunity to deliberately admonish their boss for a good round.

F*ck!

Yu Bai Zhou walked up to the empty blackboard, picked up a whole piece of chalk, and looked up at the equation. He found that this question was indeed a super hard level question as the other students were saying, and it was very difficult.

The original host’s character setting was a poor student. There was no way he could solve such a difficult question.

Yu Bai Zhou was at a lost, waffling over what to do. In the end, he put the chalk in his hand back onto the chalk slot.

The chalk had just clicked into place when Cheng Jia Hui’s shrilled voice came from the side, “Can’t do it?”

Yu Bai Zhou didn’t have time to answer before Cheng Jia Hui raised her voice and said, “If you can’t solve it then scram for me.”

Yu Bai Zhou closed his eyes for a second, turned around, and started to walk back to this seat. But just a few steps later, he heard Cheng Jia Hui say in a sharp voice to the rest of the students: “Everyone must always listen to the lessons seriously, otherwise they can only come up and stand dumbly in front of the blackboard, just like Yu Bai Zhou did just now. This is a negative example, an extremely negative example!”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

The teaching stick smacked against the table, making a sharp noise, and Yu Bai Zhou paused in his steps.

None of the students sitting in their seats dared to talk.

Cheng Jia Hui looked at Yu Bai Zhou, who had stopped.

“What are you doing standing still? Why aren’t you hurrying back to your seat?!”

Yu Bai Zhou turned around again and looked at Cheng Jia Hui. “Sorry, teacher. I seem to remember how to do this question.”

When Cheng Jia Hui heard these words she was slightly stunned. Then she looked at Yu Bai Zhou, “Are you sure you remember?”

Yu Bai Zhou replied, “Not certain, but I can give it a try.”

Cheng Jia Hui scolded, “Time in the classroom is very precious. You think you can just try if you want to try?”

Yu Bai Zhou felt a bit helpless. Just who exactly was wasting class time here?

He said, “Then if I am certain I can do it?”

Cheng Jia Hui glanced at her watch and said, “If you are sure, then I can give you five minutes to do it, but if you can’t solve it within five minutes and end up wasting the time of the other students, then you can conscientiously go stand outside in the hall for the rest of this class. Do you agree?”

On the surface, Cheng Jia Hui was pretending to think about the other students, but in actuality, she was coming straight at Yu Bai Zhou.

One of the students asked, “What if he can solve it?”

Cheng Jia Hui choked and glared at the student who spoke. The student shrunk their neck back in embarrassment.

Yu Bai Zhou looked at Cheng Jia Hui, “I agree. But correspondingly, if I can solve it, you must give me an apology.”

An apology for her impolite behavior just now, and for the pot* that was thrown on the original host before.

[*T/N: For readers of “Let Me Shoulder this Blame,” you would be familiar with the term pot. For the uninitiated, “to carry a pot” represents “to be blamed or misunderstood.”]

“You!” Cheng Jia Hui did not expect Yu Bai Zhou to make such a request. Her face turned blue, and then white.

The road had already reached this point, and Cheng Jia Hui finally had to agree.

The bet between teacher and student attracted everyone’s attention, and even the students who had just dozed off were already wide-awake.

Yu Bai Zhou returned to the stage, but he didn’t start solving the problem right away.

Chapter 4 – The Most Bewildered Male Lead in the World

The bell for class rang. Yu Bai Zhou found his seat based on the information in the book. Tu Gao Ming and the other little brothers went back to their seats one after another.

The first segment was precisely Cheng Jia Hui’s class. After a short while, Cheng Jia Hui came in with the teaching materials. Yu Bai Zhou looked at the woman at the podium. The smile on her face carried an undertone of mockery. He could not help shaking his head.

“Before today’s class, let’s briefly review yesterday’s topic. I will pick a few students to come up to be tested. You can come up on your own if you want. I will write the problems on the blackboard. If you see a problem that you can solve, then come on up. If there are any remaining questions, we can pick other students to come up and do them.

Cheng Jia Hui picked up a piece of chalk and started to write the questions on the blackboard. The board was very big. It was divided into upper, lower, left, and right sides. In a flash she finished writing two problems on the board.

There was a pattern to the way that Cheng Jia Hui arranged problems on the board. The simple questions were in the front, and the hard ones were in the back. Some students were afraid that no one would do the harder questions and that they would end up being picked to do them, so when they saw a problem that they could solve, they quickly went up front to do it.

Very soon, six questions were written on the boards. The first five questions took up three small blackboards, and the last one occupied one small board alone. All the students who were familiar with Cheng Jia Hui’s routine knew at a glance that the final question must be complicated, so it needed an entire board to work out.

The first five questions were solved relatively quickly. Only the last question was left alone. None of the students dared to try their hand at it.

The students discussed the question in low murmurs.

“I’ve never seen the last question before. Was this type of problem mentioned in the morning class?”

“That last question simply cannot be a review question, okay? It’s definitely a problem to deliberately make things difficult for someone!”

“What the fudge*, who can possibly solve the last problem? Those symbols in the last problem, how come it seems like I have never seen them before!”

[*T/N: 卧槽 wo cao is a substitute word for 我肏 wo cao, which means “f*ck” or “WTF.” It’s the same pinyin spelling, but different characters and different tones. It’s kind of like self-censoring.]

“I’ve seen this problem before. It seems like a stimulation question of some regional college entrance exam. It’s beyond the scope of the syllabus. Up until now, only a few people could solve it.”

“Are you crazy? Such a difficult question. Isn’t it the wrong grade level? You have to use it for a class of top students!”

The students had a lot of comments. Cheng Jia Hui looked down at the audience leisurely from the podium. “What? Is no one going to come do the last question? If there’s no one, then I’ll have to pick someone.”

“It’s over. It’s over. Please don’t pick me.”

“Me too. I don’t want to be condemned in front of everybody.”

“Whoever gets picked is out of luck. Poison Tongue Cheng is not called that for no reason.”

“If you can’t solve it, you will definitely be put on clean up duty for three days straight. I don’t want to clean again.”

Cheng Jia Hui glanced down at them from the stage. Row by row of students all had their heads down. Looking at the students’ revered fear towards her, she joyfully tapped her fingers against the podium. Her eyes swept across the first row, the second row, the third row, the fourth row, and finally stayed on the penultimate second to last seat from the wall in the fourth row.

She lifted her chin slightly, her eyes fixed on Yu Bai Zhou, who had his head bowed, looking for something within the desk’s cubbyhole. Her slender eyes narrowed. “Come up and do this question, Yu Bai Zhou.”

To Haruhi Rei and Zoe, a thank you and an apology.

THANK YOU for your belief in my work, it honestly bolstered me a lot. When this first happened, one part of me was upset and unwilling, and the other part of me was ready to just roll over and give up. I believed that without a shadow of doubt that no one would care if I continued or not, since someone else was doing a much better and faster job. I found it meaningless to continue translating if no one cared to read my translations. The point of me taking the time to translate a story that I like is to share it. Otherwise, I could’ve just read it with MTL, moved on, and called it a day.

I posted the question to the void expecting to get a confirmation for my thoughts, that I should stop translating. Mainly, I wanted to comfort myself by saying “see, you did do something, you asked, didn’t you?” But no, I didn’t go and ask the other person directly involved. I was scared of confrontation, afraid that this thing might blow up, and I really did not want that drama in my life. But because you believed in me, it pushed me to do more, so I reached out to the other translator. If nothing else, I should at least confirm that they would finish this story before I definitively let it go, was what I had thought. And I’m so glad that I did, because the other translator turned out to be lovely and not scary at all. Which brings me to the apology.

I’M SORRY for disappointing you by dropping this story. I’ve explained my reasons in chapter 3, but I still feel bad because it’s like I’m letting down someone who believes in me. All I can say is that I promise I will only get better and better at translating with time and more experience. I will use those skills to bring you many more wonderful stories in the future. I hope to be able to entertain you with high-quality work now and in the future.

If you’re still interested in this story, then please do give the other translator a chance. I know for a fact that I was once young and green, and my translations were awkward and stilted. But thanks to the encouragement of the readers, I persisted and slowly got better with time. I’m certain that Syd, the new translator for this story, will also get better with experience.

Many thanks for sticking with me and have a most awesome day! ⭐

Transmigrated into a School Idol 3

Hello everybody, thank you for your comments on the previous chapter. The thing was, I never expected something like this to happen and I didn’t know what to do, so my first reaction was to ask for your opinions. After reading some early comments and thinking it over, I decided to be the one to reach out to the other party first. We came to the consensus that they would continue this story and I would drop it. I have confirmed that they intend to see this story through to the end, so you won’t have to worry about the story being dropped halfway. I think for the sake of the readers, this is the best decision.

Some of you suggested that we both translate this story, either working together or working individually. I have cooperated with other translators before, but as the insightful Aylik pointed out, different translators have different styles and there would inevitably be inconsistencies, which is why I don’t intend to co-translate with other people in the future, even though the translators I’ve worked with before were wonderful sweethearts.

As for why I don’t agree with two translators working on the same story individually. Reason one, it may seem silly to some people, but I think it is impolite to barge in on someone’s territory like that, and most translators are of the same mind. Reason two is a personal opinion, but I think it’s a disservice to the reading community to squander resources like that. Why have two translators compete over the same story, when they could be translating different novels and bringing more stories to the table for everyone to enjoy?

I was upset by this event, because it was hard to find this story to begin with. I had to drudge through a lot of poorly MTL’ed stories to find one that I liked. But I realized that the other translator was new to this circle, and most commendably they were receptive to communication, so please do read their translations and don’t bring any hate to their site. As an escape from reality, I hope that this can be a positive community. A big thank you to those who expressed support for my work, I am truly grateful for your appreciation.

TL,DR: In the following days I will be uploading all the chapters of TSI that I have managed to stockpile. After that, I will be officially dropping this project and handing the reins over to the other translator.

Chapter 3 – The Most Bewildered Male Lead in the World

“You know that Yu Bai Zhou in my class, right? He doesn’t study and only knows how to fight all day. Not only are his grades bad, but also his personality is vile. He’s so difficult to handle!”

“Hey, lower your voice, what if a student passes by and hears you?”

“How could there be students passing by at this time? They are all on the other side. Whenever I talk about him, I get so angry.”

“There’s nothing you can do about it. He’s the little young master that everyone adores.”

“Little young master? Asides from causing trouble and pulling down the grades of the class, he can’t do anything else. He’s just a vermin that uses his family’s money. Putting this kind of person in my class, his existence is just like garbage.”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Hearing the female teacher’s words, Tu Gao Ming cursed in a low voice. “I’m going. Cheng Jia Hui must be tired of living!”

Tu Gao Ming heard his boss being scolded like this and his lungs exploded with rage.

Tu Gao Ming wanted to go in there and argue with Cheng Jia Hui. Yu Bai Zhou calmly extended a hand and pulled him back. He shook his head at him.

Tu Gao Ming looked at him in puzzlement. “Boss?”

Yu Bai Zhou raised a finger to his lips, motioning for him to be quiet.

The people inside were still carrying on with their conversation.

The male teacher said, “Although the situation is like this, as a teacher you shouldn’t be so unpleasant when you talk. The children are in their adolescent years, so they will inevitably be rebellious. Just endure it for a while and it will pass. Furthermore, concerning that matter, stop thinking about it all the time. Just let go of it.”

“Endure? Class 5’s average grade was just about to go up, but then that useless garbage dragged it back down. How am I supposed to endure? What’s the use of being good at drawing and singing? The cultural class is just as bad. All day long holding back others, I’m about to be pushed to the edge. I really want to chase him out of the class.”

Tu Gao Ming clenched his fists and whispered to Yu Bai Zhou: “Boss, as long as you say the word, I will go in there and sort her out with a beating.”

Yu Bai Zhou thought about it and patted him on the shoulder. “Let’s go, back to the classroom.”

Finished talking, he turned around first to leave.

Tu Gao Ming’s belly was filled with anger, but his boss didn’t say anything, so he could only endure and go catch up with him. The others also followed along.

Cheng Jia Hui. Yu Bai Zhou knew about this teacher. She was famous for her poison tongue. She would often talk behind people’s backs, saying how she looked down on those students who came in through relationships. But the truth was she herself also got into the school through a relationship. And the relationship was not small.

In the past few years, she taught a couple of students that were considered pretty good, so she started to become smug and conceited.

In the book, Cheng Jia Hui and the original host were at extreme odds.

One of the reasons was because the original host was bad at his studies. Cheng Jia Hui liked to look good in the eyes of others, so she didn’t want to have any bad students in her class. And the original host was precisely the hedonistic son of rich parents who was bad at his studies.

Speaking of which, the original host had once tried hard at his studies, but because his foundation was so terrible, add on to that Cheng Jia Hui’s frequent psychological shocks, so his grades were always low. In the end, he gave up and stopped bothering. He stopped struggling to study, and properly played his role of a hedonistic son with rich parents.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

But there was a deeper root cause. It was a personal issue between Cheng Jia Hui and the original host. Before, Cheng Jia Hui’s son and the original host once hung out together. One time, they went out to fight and her son’s leg got injured. Because of this incident, Cheng Jia Hui has always bore a grudge against the original host, feeling like he was the one who harmed her son.

In fact, the original host had taken Cheng Jia Hui into consideration, and never agreed to let her son participate in the fight. But who would have thought that her son would agree verbally, but then renege on his promise the day of the fight.

He went straight to the fight without first informing the original host. In the end, he lost the fight and got ruthlessly pounded to the pavement by his opponent. Afterwards, he ended up at the hospital.

It wasn’t that Cheng Jia Hui did not understand the course of events, but in her mind, her son getting injured was fact. Her son missed an important math competition because he was in the hospital was also fact. So she completely paid no heed to the original host’s explanation. She firmly believed that it was the original host’s fault; that it was the original host who ruined her son’s future prospects. With his explanation brushed aside, the original host was also disinclined to explain again and simply left things as they were.

And that was how the animosity between the two came to be.

Chapter 2 – The Most Bewildered Male Lead in the World

The story information was not fully imported, so Yu Bai Zhou had to observe the passerby in front of him at his own discretion.

The passerby had slightly curly black hair. With his head half lowered, the bangs on his forehead covered most of his face, making it hard for Yu Bai Zhou to discern his appearance.
Translations are by www [dot] vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.
Yu Bai Zhou was sitting on a stool, but he could still tell that the other person was tall in height. He might even be close to one point nine meters tall. His physique was also not thin and weak like most high school students. If his looks were not bad, then he would be the type that school girls liked.

Yu Bai Zhou sized up the person in front of him.

It stood to reason that most people would be scared if they knew that they were about to be treated with violence. Even begging for mercy would be expected. But this passerby was unperturbed, calm and collected. It didn’t feel like he was about to be beat up. Very strange. Yu Bai Zhou could not detect a single shred of panic from him. Instead he possessed a calmness that was different from his peers.

Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels (dot) com

From his side came the voice of Little Brother No. 1, “Boss, if we don’t sort out He Yan, this brat, and give him a good beating today, in the future he will be out of control.”

Little Brother No. 2 echoed: “That’s right. Just because he’s the top student he considers everyone else beneath him, looking down his nose at others. I didn’t like him from the get-go.”

It turned out that the passerby was called He Yan, and he was also the top student.

Little Brother No. 3 exaggeratedly raised the baseball bat in his hand, “Boss, as long as you give the order, we will proceed!”

Yu Bai Zhou looked at the baseball bat in Little Brother No. 3’s hand and became flustered. Calmly, he said, “Untie him.”

The group of little brothers: “???”

They obviously did not understand how their boss operated.

Yu Bai Zhou saw that all the little brothers were not moving, so he jumped off his chair, and walked over to He Yan to untie him.

Being the leader of a group on campus felt very cool indeed, but Yu Bai Zhou hadn’t degenerated to the point where he needed to bully those weaker than himself in order to be “cool.”

Moreover, he kept feeling like this person must be some important supporting role within the book.

The ropes were tied in a slipshod manner. Yu Bai Zhou untied them one by one. He felt that it wasn’t quite right to provoke someone and then let them go just like this, so he thought of sincerely apologizing to this person in place of the original host.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Although it was the original host who did the wrong thing, he was the one inhabiting this body now and in the future, so he had to take responsibility for the mistakes made by the original host.

Just as Yu Bai Zhou was about to apologize, he lifted his gaze and met with the eyes of the other person. The apology stuck in his throat from fright.

Partially hidden behind bangs, those pitch-black eyes held traces of vicious currents.

The temperature around him seemed to drop several degrees.

Yu Bai Zhou watched as He Yan stood up and the ropes dropped off of his body. He Yan then picked up a pair of black-framed glasses that were flung to one side with distinctive bony fingers. Without saying a single word, he left the room.

Yu Bai Zhou only recovered when that person’s back disappeared from view.

What was going on with that person?

…Too terrifying.

Unlike the thorough cold of winter night, the summer afternoon was blistering hot, but the breeze passing by the lake was cool.

The high school that the original host attended was a very famous aristocratic school in City A. The children who could enter this school were all from families with prestige. Otherwise, it was talent children with exceptional academic achievements who were recruited by the school.

The original host belonged to the former category. His studies were poor, but his family had money and power.

It was time for class soon. With the information available to him, Yu Bai Zhou led his group of little brothers towards school building three.

There was a bit of distance between the teachers’ office and the teaching area. When they passed by the teachers’ office, Yu Bai Zhou heard two teachers talking in the office.

Coincidentally, when he passed by he heard one of the teachers, a woman, talking about him.

Translator Rambles:

Yu Bai Zhou is described as the 校草 xiao cao, which means “the most handsome boy in the school.” But individually the characters mean “school” and “grass,” which I thought was kind of funny.

The female version is 校花 xiao hua, which means “the prettiest girl in the school / campus belle.” And individually the characters mean “school” and “flower,” which made a little more sense to me.

Obviously I didn’t want to call him “the school grass” in English. Haha. Eventually I settled on the term “school idol,” which I find to be a gender-neutral term for someone that is admired by the students on campus. Admittedly, the choice was influenced by certain Japanese animes with a flashy school setting and an OP student council. Lol.

Question: Should I continue to translate TSI?

It just came to my attention when I went to update chapter 2 of TSI on novelupdates that someone else have started translating this story. I was not aware of this until today, because the other translator never contacted me about wanting to pick up this story.

Now I have a conundrum. I would like to continue translating this story. After all, I chose this story because I was interested in the premise and translating a fluffy modern story helps me to decompress from translating some of my other more complex projects. But the other translator is translating this story much faster than I am, so from a reader’s perspective it seems kind of pointless for me to continue? I know that as a reader, I would prefer faster updates too. I just kind of wish the other translator would’ve communicated with me when they decided that they wanted this project so we could’ve talked it out. Right now I’m wondering if I should still continue to translate this story. I don’t think anyone would care if I stopped right?

Transmigrated into a School Idol 1

T/N 1: Hullo there. This is Vanilla Muse, here with a modern novel this time. I love stories set in ancient China, but sometimes they can be a real headache to translate, so when I need a break from ancient Chinese jargon, I will be translating this story instead. This is a light, easy, feel good story. The characters are a bit silly and funny. Overall, don’t take this story too seriously, and just sit back and relax. Enjoy~

T/N 2: Chapters will be split into parts.

Standard Info: I will be abbreviating “Transmigrated into a School Idol and Forced to Do Business” as TSI. Go to the translations page for the updating schedule (which is currently undecided for this story). Go to the title page for information on the story, the table of contents, and eventually a character list.

Chapter 1 – The Most Bewildered Male Lead in the World

When Yu Bai Zhou opened his eyes once more, the entire scene in front of him had changed.

In an empty classroom that no one was using, a couple of hooligans dressed in school uniform were circling around a male student. The student in the center had his head lowered, and his face could not be seen clearly.

Looking at the unfamiliar scene in front of him, Yu Bai Zhou wanted to speak, but he accidentally choked on the smoke in his mouth. Only then did he realized that not only was he smoking, but he was sitting in a posture very much akin to a big boss.

Yu Bai Zhou was a little stunned. What’s happening here???

He clearly remembered being hit by a car on his way to volunteer. Why was he here all of a sudden? And where was this place?

A voice sounded in his mind. “Welcome to the world within a book. You can call me 008.”

It took two seconds for Yu Bai Zhou to react. He had read quite a few novels about characters transmigrating into books, but this was his first time transmigrating into a book himself.

He asked 008 about the novel’s story, and 008 only told him that it was a cool story*.

[*T/N: 爽文 shuang wen – “feel good literature” is a book that makes readers feel good or happy while reading. The protagonist easily triumphs over their adversaries and problems, cumulating in a happy end. Example: Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil is a shuang wen]

He took a few seconds to collect himself, maintaining a hint of reason. “So according to the standard pattern, I have to complete the tasks that you give me?”

008: “No, there are no tasks. Here, you can use the information at your disposal to do whatever you want.”

Yu Bai Zhou was puzzled. He felt that this seemed too free, so he asked, “Then what is my purpose for transmigrating here?”

008: “To keep on living.”

To survive?

[T/N: In the above two lines, both 008 and YBZ uses the phrase “活下去” which can be interpreted as “to keep on living” or “to survive”]

This wording…

Yu Bai Zhou didn’t know why, but he had a bad hunch, as if his future would be full of hardships.

008 said: “I will introduce the novel’s information into your mind. You may explore and complete the following story line freely. If you have any questions, you can call for me in your mind at any time.”

As soon as 008’s voice petered out, information about the story entered Yu Bai Zhou’s mind, and everything became clearer…

He transmigrated into a cool story, and became an all-powerful leader of a group within the school campus. Furthermore, he was the most handsome boy in the school (a.k.a. the school idol), sought after by numerous girls in the school.

Yu Bai Zhou slapped his face. For the first time, he discovered that his hunch could be incorrect.

The protagonist of a cool story could not have a future full of hardships.

Yu Bai Zhou, male, 18 years old, second year student in high school, class 5.

From a young age, he studied at international schools, and he was proficient in five foreign languages. He was good at painting and everything art related.

One hour ago, during lunch break; as the boss on campus, Yu Bai Zhou – the original host that was – had a passerby give him yesterday’s homework. But the passerby completely disregarded him, putting the original host in a bad mood. As a result, he had his little brothers* kidnap the passerby to an empty classroom with plans to give him a good thrashing.

[*T/N: They’re not blood related brothers. They’re the students that follow him around and treat him as their boss. Hierarchy and seniority are often intertwined in Chinese society, so referring to them as little brothers means that they are under him, but not necessary younger than him.]

Then, just before the thrashing began, he transmigrated into the body.

Yu Bai Zhou was holding a cigarette in his mouth and was sitting on a chair with his leg sticking up. And the person in front of him was the passerby that his little brothers had trussed up… the passerby that…

Wait, who was this passerby?

Yu Bai Zhou asked 008.

008: “Story information is being imported.”

008: “Ouch, shoot! It got jammed!”

Yu Bai Zhou: “…”

008 explained that due to the huge amount of information in the novel, coupled with the aging of their equipment, the importing of information often happened to get stuck or processed very slowly. But generally speaking, no matter how long a novel was, the information should be fully imported within three to five days.

Yu Bai Zhou smiled lightly and expressed that their outdated equipment should be replaced.

Summary

Yu Bai Zhou transmigrated into a book.

The talented protagonist is the top student in school. Due to his excellence in every subject, it caused many people to be dissatisfied with him, so they devised various means to mess with him. To the extent that it left a dark shadow on his high school years.

However, the villains did not know that the seemingly poor protagonist is actually the youngest son of the richest man in City A.

And in six years, the protagonist will replace his father’s position as the new richest man in City A with his own capabilities. Ten years later, he will become the youngest and richest man in the country! When that happens, the villains will be tortured to death by the protagonist!

…As bad luck would have it, Yu Bai Zhou transmigrated into the villain that bullied the protagonist the most.

In order to be able to live for a few more years, Yu Bai Zhou, the villain, begins to formulate a character correction plan.

However, just as he is struggling to save his image in the eyes of the protagonist, out of the blue, the protagonist anxiously pushes him against the wall, and traps him within the circle of his arms. Those refined brown eyes watch him attentively. “Yu Bai Zhou, if you make trouble again, I will kiss you.”

Yu Bai Zhou, who was just kabedon’ed, panics. “Can someone tell me, exactly where did I go wrong?!”
