Chapter 78 – Ahhhhhh! (30.1)

They had to get to the venue on Saturday morning, so Duan Shu Tong had to ask for leave on Friday in order to carpool with Xi Duan to Hai City together.

Coincidentally, Lu Shi had to leave Shan Quan County too.

Early on Friday morning, Duan Shu Tong packed up his luggage and picked up the gift he was going to give to Xi Duan. After leaving the bedroom, he thought about it, turned back around, and put down the gift.

It was better to wait until they got back from Hai City to give the present to Xi Duan.

In the living room, Lu Shi was already fully equipped*. He sat on the sofa playing with his mobile phone. Actually, his chauffeur was already waiting outside, but he wanted to say goodbye to Duan Shu Tong, and while he was at it, he could see with his own eyes whether President Xi was taking care of Duan Shu Tong as Lin Man Man said.

[*T/N: I didn’t understand what the author was trying to say at first, but after translating some more of the story, I believe it means that Lu Shi is in disguise again, with sunglasses, hat, scarf, etc, to hide his appearance.]

Before Duan Shu Tong could come downstairs, the doorbell rang first.

Lu Shi was stunned for a moment. The doorbell rang again. He looked up the stairs. The second floor seemed silent. So he got up, walked over, and opened the door before the bell could ring for a third time.

The man outside the door was very tall, and his appearance was absolutely excellent. At first, the man had a slightly gentle aura around him, but when he saw Lu Shi, the man suddenly became biting cold. The man’s astute eyes carried hidden depths. He glanced over Lu Shi indifferently. In the next second, the sharpness around him disappeared in a flash.

“Lu Shi.” The man used an affirmative sentence. His voice was low and cold.

Even though Xi Duan kept restraining himself and kept himself from approaching Duan Shu Tong, it could be seen that he couldn’t hold back the sadness in his heart when he saw the person who had been living with Duan Shu Tong for the past ten days.

Lu Shi chuckled and deliberately said in a familiar tone, “Shu Tong is still upstairs, Mr. Xi is early.”

Xi Duan did indeed arrive early. He was simply too excited. He got up early in the morning and didn’t want to stay at home and wait. There was a voice in his heart urging him to come to Duan Shu Tong.

He recalled the first time they shared a ride together a few months ago. At that time, he was neglectful towards the young man. Xi Duan has already secretly berated himself many times over that fact.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

The two men stared at each other for a few seconds. The imposing manner that he had originally restrained was gradually starting to seep out again. Then came a sound from the staircase.

“Uncle Xi came very early.” Duan Shu Tong carried a small suitcase with him, and he wore casual clothes. He walked down the stairs with a smile on his face, looking very handsome.

“Phfft.” Lu Shi burst out laughing. When he heard Duan Shu Tong call Xi Duan “uncle” he just lost it.

Lu Shi turned his head to look at Xi Duan. Just as he suspected, Xi Duan’s face had darkened even more.

Although Xi Duan maintained an expressionless face all along, Lu Shi, as an actor, was still very sensitive to micro-expressions.

Ordinary people would not be able to tell, but Lu Shi could see it clearly. Perhaps, even Xi Duan himself was not aware of it, but the way he looked at Duan Shu Tong was very gentle and cautious, wavering like he wanted to go near but also did not dare to approach.

Lu Shi didn’t know what Duan Shu Tong thought of Xi Duan, but he could be certain now that Xi Duan’s thoughts for Duan Shu Tong were not simple.

Lu Shi liked gossip very much. This situation was so interesting that it might be able to sustain his gossipy heart for a long time to come.

When he saw Duan Shu Tong, Xi Duan subconsciously restrained his imposing manner. When the young man got to the entrance, Xi Duan straight up took the suitcase off his hands. When the young man looked at him with a puzzled expression, Xi Duan eyed the shoe cabinet and said, “You change your shoes.”

Duan Shu Tong said: “…Thank you.” Xi Duan was really too considerate.

Off to one side, Lu Shi was watching all of this with joyful eyes. It’s just that he was wearing sunglasses, so the two awkward men with palpitating hearts did not notice at all.

The three of them walked out together. Liu Zhi Fei and Cen Ning were standing beside the car and were about to say hello to Duan Shu Tong, but when they saw Lu Shi, who was fully equipped, they were so surprised that they forgot what to say.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Lu Shi nodded his head slightly at the two of them. Then, right in front of everybody, he said politely to Duan Shu Tong: “Thank you Young Master Duan for taking care of me during this time. Whenever Young Master Duan returns to Yan City, you must tell me, so that I may have the honor of inviting you to dinner.”

Duan Shu Tong smiled politely, “Okay, be careful on the road.”

Lu Shi watched as Xi Duan put Duan Shu Tong’s suitcase into the car trunk himself. The refreshing feeling of watching a good play rose up in his heart once again.

It was like he was the first person to discover a secret, and the feeling was very fulfilling.

Let Me Shoulder this Blame! 132

I wanted to post this yesterday, but unfortunately my internet wasn’t cooperating. I already ranted a little about it in my other post, which was supposed to go up two days ago. I copied and pasted that mini rant here for your context, but you only really need to pay attention to the underlined part:

Uggh, I am so done with my internet. I’ve been trying to post this chapter for. The. Past. Two. Days. Every time I get home from work and sit down to post this, I find my internet isn’t working. The connection in my area has always been a bit spotty, but never this bad. I low-key suspect the construction down the street is causing this. I don’t know how, but ever since they started construction, my internet has been even more glitchy than usual. In light of that, I’m going to change my updating schedule a little. Instead of saying “I’m going to post this chapter on this day,” it’ll be more like “I’m going to post these four chapters by the end of this week.” So the total number of updates will still be the same. I’m just giving myself more flexibility for when I post the updates to accommodate my spotty connection.

Chapter 132

Su Shi didn’t even have time to say the excuse that he had prepared beforehand. He blinked several times and then stubbornly finished his scripted lines: “I once lost my way in this area and found this place by accident. But there were still people stationed here at the time, so they drove me away.”

“Okay, okay, I get it.”

Yuan Zheng responded and he couldn’t help but smile. His originally firm eyebrows softened into gentle indulgence. He nodded in agreement to Su Shi and leaned over his shoulder slightly. It almost seemed like there was a sense of patient encouragement in his tone.

“You really don’t need any of it at all? Munitions are precious in the post-apocalypse. Whether you keep them or resell them, they are very useful. You can exchange them for a lot of boxes of instant noodles…”

“You won’t cook them for me?”

The young man in front of him suddenly interrupted him. His dark eyes were fixed on Yuan Zheng.

Yuan Zheng was caught unprepared by such an inquiry. A warm feeling washed over him and he immediately compromised. His gaze was dripping with smiling intent. He coughed lightly and then nodded his head with all seriousness.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

“I will [cook for you]. When we replenish our supplies, I will cook whatever you want to eat. It’s just that your pot is already gone-”

[T/N: The pun in the previous sentence… lmao XD]

Yuan Zheng’s voice cut off abruptly when he saw the young man suddenly raised his head in horror. He was taken aback for a moment, and then he resolutely changed his tune: “It’ll be fine, I’ll just go back to the supermarket and get another one for you.”

……

While Su Shi was still in shock, the patrol team received news of the arsenal. They went and came back loaded with munitions. When they hit the road in a new armored vehicle, Su Shi, who was overreacting, was still deeply reflecting on the invisible harm that the entire mission caused to his own psychology.

This mission was full of strangeness. Yuan Zheng did not intend to let his people play the fool and be duped. He simply cut off communications with the headquarters and Base T. Then he led the team members to the target location in a concealed manner.

They traveled intermittently on and off the road for several days. When they were close to Base T, suddenly news spread outside that the patrol team of Base B had encountered the Son of Hell and they were brutally slaughtered.

Although the Son of Hell was notorious, the rumors surrounding him were mostly about him killing exiles and stealing supplies. This time, the news was that he had directly confronted a patrol team with a Class-A ability user leader, and easily decimated all of them.

Base B, as the party involved, abnormally did not make any statements, which was almost equivalent to tacitly acquiescing to the content of the news. The rumors became more and more outrageous, and in the blink of an eye it caused widespread panic in the major bases.

“This is simply nonsense! Captain, they’re clearly trying to spread rumors. Are they looking down on the Son of Hell or looking down on us?”

The striker was so angry that he slammed his fist against the equipment box beside him: “We have to do something about this, right? It would be too shameful if the rumors keep circulating like this!”

“Of course something needs to be done.”

Yuan Zheng spoke in a deep voice, and his frame of mind was not as relazed as before: “Resume communication with the headquarters, first explain the situation truthfully, and see what the headquarters has to say.”

“I’ve already explained things clearly, but I don’t know why, headquarters has not responded all this time, and it seems like they’re also blocking us.”

The deputy team leader frowned and shook his head. He sent a contact request again, but it was like running up against a brick wall. He did not receive any response back.

The abnormal silence lowered everyone’s mood. The deputy team leader tried to send a message again, but Su Shi suddenly stopped him with a gentle hand.

“You have to stop.”

Su Shi said to him. A flexible vine retracted from his finger into his cuff. Then he pointed to the infrared radar screen.

The two communication attempts have revealed the exact location of the patrol team to the other party. Now, there were several red dots representing thermal weapons rushing in their direction.

Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels (dot) com

The deputy team leader’s expression changed. He promptly turned on the shielding system, and then he reversed the steering wheel and drove onto a remote minor road. He pressed his foot to the accelerator.

Yuan Zheng’s eyes darkened slightly. He started to shout, “Mu Shi,” but stopped when he looked at the eyes of the young man that were still dark and calm.

According to the satellite cloud picture, a large number of troops have already assembled near the Bloodthirsty Forest. As a result of the universal panic, the people united together to encircle and annihilate Unbounded City.

No matter how strong the Bloodthirsty Forest was, it would not be able to withstand the indiscriminant bombing of so many thermal weapons. Even though the bases might not necessarily bring out devastating weapons such as nuclear warheads, once the Bloodthirsty Forest was breached, the Unbounded City would be razed to ruins in the blink of an eye.

“Abandon the employment mission, we’re also going to the Bloodthirsty Forest.”

Yuan Zheng’s gaze sunk. His voice was resolute and decisive.

The deputy team leader could not help but look up in shock: “Captain, then our mission-”

“Deputy, all of us are about to be added to the list of martyrs, are you still thinking about the mission?”

The petardier could not help but to interrupt him. He cracked his knuckles with his fighting spirit burning hot: “We should have done this long ago! If it was just spreading rumors, then fine, whatever, but why should we let them exterminate us? We should come out and give them a scare!”

Chapter 75 – Laba

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng loved the way that Jia Bao was acting coquettish with him. “It’s good as long as my darling is happy. You’re already doing very well, baby…”

“All right, let’s have lunch first. Then, let’s take a nap together…” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng put his arms around Lin Jia Bao and said, “I’m going to use the Laba Festival to have you meet people tonight. But you don’t have to think too much about it, understand?”

“En.” Lin Jia Bao leaned against Xuan Yuan Han Cheng obediently and together they went to have lunch.

Song-shi accepted the Laba congee and gave thanks for the imperial family’s grace.

[T/N: Reminder, Song-shi is Song Yi Yun, one of XYHC’s concubines and the mother of Kang’er.]

When she learned that the congee was sent from Ping Le Courtyard, her heart was a mixture of five flavors*. The eunuch who delivered the Laba congee informed her that there would be a family banquet in Chang Le Palace Hall that night. After listening to his words, she told the maid beside her to give him a reward and answered, “I got it. Go back and deliver my reply.”

[*T/N: The five flavors of life that the Chinese refer to are sweet, sour, bitter, spicy, and salty. It’s a metaphor that means life is made up of many different experiences: good, bad, and everything in between. But regardless of what you’re experiencing, life keeps going on.]

It seemed that His Royal Highness’s attitude towards this Lin xiaoshi really was different. Song-shi thought about how she’s older than the crown prince by two years. How was she supposed to compete with that young and beautiful person for favor? Alas…

Yu-shi was absolutely furious when she found out that the Laba congee was distributed from Ping Le Courtyard. It looked like this ger was not as stupid as he seemed. He was able to make His Royal Highness hand him the reins to the Laba Festival… it had to be said, in the previous years it was the crown princess who presided over the Laba Festival!

When Yu-shi heard that there would be a family banquet in Chang Le Palace Hall at night, she immediately had the palace maids dress her up, all the while thinking that she must push down Lin Jia Bao that night!

In the evening, when Xuan Yuan Han Cheng brought Lin Jia Bao to Chang Le Palace Hall, Yu-shi and Song-shi had already arrived with their daughters.

When they saw His Royal Highness they paid their respects one after another, “Your Royal Highness…”

“You may dispense with curtseying…” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng led Lin Jia Bao to the seat of honor. “Today, it’s a family banquet for the East Palace, so you don’t need to stand on ceremony.”

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng introduced everyone to Lin Jia Bao. There was Song-shi and the eldest daughter, Kang’er, as well as Yu-shi and the second daughter, An’er.

Kang’er lived up to her former liveliness and glanced at Lin Jia Bao timidly, her heart full of fear.

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng first asked Song-shi and Yu-shi about the health of his two daughters, and then he announced the start of the banquet.

The palace maids ferried in exquisite plates of meat, vegetable, and fish one after another. Xuan Yuan Han Cheng held Lin Jia Bao’s hand under the table. His baby looked a little nervous.

Lin Jia Bao could feel Xuan Yuan Han Cheng’s silent encouragement and slowly relaxed. Lin Jia Bao was studious in his dining etiquette lessons. Nowadays, the image that he presented when he was eating was very pleasing to the eye.

Lin Jia Bao had selected the dishes for tonight’s menu, so naturally he chose all of his and Xuan Yuan Han Cheng’s favorite dishes. Lin Jia Bao was not a picky eater. He had a good appetite and ate with relish. When Xuan Yuan Han Cheng saw his darling eating like this, his appetite also increased greatly…

Yu-shi looked at Lin xiaoshi and secretly despised him in her heart. She thought he really was not cosmopolitan. Yu-shi ate a few mouthfuls and then her chopsticks stopped moving.

The steamed Reeves shad today was very fresh and delicious. It delighted Lin Jia Bao when he ate it. Xuan Yuan Han Cheng motioned for Shu Ya to serve his baby seconds. Shu Ya responded and brought another piece of fish meat to Lin-xiaozhu. She carefully deboned the fish before giving it to Lin-xiaozhu to enjoy.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

The fish meat was succulent and exquisite. Lin Jia Bao carefully savored the taste in his mouth.

Seeing Lin Jia Bao’s actions, Yu-shi covered her mouth and chuckled. “Looks like Lin-xiaozhu haven’t eaten much Reeves shad before. Ha ha…”

“Yeah…” Lin Jia Bao nodded truthfully.

Xu Province was a landlocked area, so fish was relatively expensive. The non-vegetarian dishes that he normally got to eat consisted of chicken, duck, and pork. As for things like fish, shrimp, and crab, he rarely got to eat those. It was only after he had entered the palace and became the crown prince’s xiaoshi that he was able to eat delicacies that he has never even heard of before.

When Yu-shi heard his response, she laughed incessantly. She was about to say something else when she saw the crown prince looking at her coldly. She instantly shut up.

Song-shi was like an invisible person from beginning to end. She watched as the crown prince safeguarded Lin xiaoshi and Yu-shi provoking him while not knowing the immensity of heaven and earth.

[*T/N: “not knowing the immensity of heaven and earth” describes a foolish and/or arrogant person who doesn’t know the limits of his or her abilities]

After the meal, Yu-shi still did her utmost to act coquettish and show off her beauty to the crown prince, “Your Royal Highness, you haven’t come to my place for a long time. Qin Qin misses Your Royal Highness very much…”

[T/N: Yu-shi’s name is Yu Qin. She’s calling herself Qin Qin to be cute.]

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng was indifferent to Yu-shi’s performance. “Let’s stop here for today… Everybody disperse…”

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng and Lin Jia Bao returned to Ping Le Courtyard. After the two washed their faces, rinsed their mouths, and then went to lie on the bed, Xuan Yuan Han Cheng said, “All right, you’ve met the people that you wanted to meet. My baby must be tired today…” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng hugged his darling close to his chest.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

“I’m not tired…” Lin Jia Bao said softly to Xuan Yuan Han Cheng, “Can I not see them too often in the future?” He really did not like that Yu-shi. He didn’t like the way that Yu-shi looked at Xuan Yuan Han Cheng.

“Of course, darling. There won’t be many opportunities for you to see them in the future.” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng knew that it must have been hard for Lin Jia Bao to have to face them.

“Am I really bad? I also don’t want my husband to meet them…” Lin Jia Bao said gloomily.

“Oh, my darling baby… I like it when you’re bad…” Xuan Yuan Han Cheng kissed Lin Jia Bao with joy. His baby was finally feeling possessive of him…

Chapter 14 – The Things I Want to Give to You

“They were clearly raised in the same way, so how could one of them turn out like this?” Xu Jing’an sighed. “Forget it. We’ll just have him move out after he graduates from university.”

An Yanming nodded, noncommittal.

From behind the curtains, An Ning watched with reddened eyes. Resentment was written all over his exquisite face.

He has served in the An family for so many years, and now they’re going to discard him just like that?

Dream on!!

The An family, including Li Rong, were all his. They could only be his!

An Ning left angrily. In his heart, he made a firm resolution: He would never let An Ji take away anything that belonged to him!

“An Ji is back!!”

Back at the drawing room, An Yanming stood up abruptly.

Xu Jing’an: “Where? Where is he? Is he injured? Did someone bully him?”

“He’s at the door!”

Xi Jing’an’s eyes lit up. She rushed out in her ten-centimeter tall high-heeled shoes.

An Ji stood at the front door of the An mansion with Li Rong stilled wrapped tightly around him.

“Son, you’re back!” Xu Jing’an was wearing a gorgeous long dress, dashing towards him like a butterfly.

Hearing this familiar voice, all the regrets of the previous life and the joy of rebirth poured out. An Ji rushed to hug Xu Jing’an. His voice choked up. “Mom… I’ve returned!”

Noticing her son’s firm hug, Xu Jing’an’s eyes widened in surprise, and she was almost at a loss for what to do with her nervousness.

Her son has been indifferent since he came back from the Junk Star. When did he become so effusive?

Xu Jing’an originally felt very guilty towards An Ji, but seeing the other party being so intimate, her face flushed red with joy.

“Where did you go? Did you get hurt? Did you get bullied?”

Those accumulated worries were like a cannonball, and turned into questions one after another: “Look how late it is, don’t you know that it is dangerous for an omega to go out alone? What if something happened to you? How would we live on?”

At the end of her torrent of questions, Xu Jingan’s voice got choked up, and the corners of her eyes became moist.

“Our child finally came back. What are you scolding him for?” An Yanming opened his arms to shield both his wife and child. In a low voice, he said, “It’s good that you’re back. It’s good that you’re back.”

An Ji thought that he had no feelings for this family, but when he heard his mother’s familiar nagging, and when he realized that behind his mother’s impatient questions were worry and fear, he realized that his parents cared about him far more than he had imagined.

And he… actually desired this relationship more than he had imagined.

How blind was he in his previous life to take this urgent concern as interrogation? He even thought that his parents only liked their adoptive children, so in the end he wanted nothing more than to sever ties with his family.

If only he had realized this sooner…

He could have lived his life happily ever after.

“It’s my fault.” An Ji sniffed. His eyes started to get red around the rims. “I won’t run all over the place anymore.”

“It’s… it’s not that we’re not letting you go out.” With An Ji being so cooperative, on the contrary Xu Jing’an felt a bit helpless. Her usually fearless and blunt attitude gained a fawning flavor, “Tell me honestly, did you get bullied when you went out this time?”

“No, I…” While An Ji was still thinking about how to explain everything, Li Rong abruptly spoke up.

“I’m sorry, it’s my fault this time.” Li Rong stepped forward, with a sincere tone and a sincere attitude, “I took An Ji away without authorization, and I didn’t have time to inform you two.”

“You took him away?” Xu Jing’an was startled. With her eyes she tried to ask An Ji: Didn’t you run away because you didn’t want to marry Li Rong?

An Ji nodded without any psychological burden: “En, I was with Li Rong.”

Xu Jing’an was even more surprised. When did her son win over Li Rong?

“I’m the one who likes An Ji. Otherwise, I would not have asked my mother to propose a marriage contract.” As if seeing what she was thinking, Li Rong explained with a smile. “I had plans to customize a mecha for An Ji. But it’s not easy to get an appointment with Master Qingkong, so I got ahead of myself and took An Ji along [without permission from his parents].”

“Qingkong?!” An Yanming, who was in his forties, suddenly had his eyes light up, as if he had turned into a boy of seventeen or eighteen.

Li Rong nodded: “Yes.”

Qingkong was a famous master mecha designer in the empire.

According to the quality requirements of the industry, the mecha machines used in the empire must have a matching degree of more than seventy percent between the mecha and the pilot’s spiritual power before it could be put into use. The quality of the mechas produced by the An family could reach between eighty to ninety-five percent, which was already considered a premium product.

But Qingkong was different. The mechas that he produced could reach a matching degree of up to one hundred percent.

Chapter 133.1 – Royal Banquet

The day after An Zi Ran returned to the Fu wangfu, Fu Yuan Fan showed up at the front door. He came as soon as he heard news of their return.

He has been working hard for Tian Long Gambling House for several months. Now, everyone thought that he and Tian Long Gambling House were inextricably linked. Even if he said he had nothing to do with Tian Long Gambling House, no one would believe him. They would only think that he was trying to take them for fools.

Fu Yuan Fan still remembered tht when he saw Fifth Brother in the palace not long ago, Fifth Brother had sneered at him, as if he had already regarded Fu Yuan Fan as an enemy.

Fu Yuan Fan believed that he had never coveted the throne before. He was only interested in showing off his literary skills. Almost everyone in the palace knew about this. He has always been happy to just be an idle wangye, until he met his cousin.

And then his leisurely life was instantly gone forever.

For ten thousand taels of silver, he put his life up as collateral. Ever since then, his fifth and second elder brothers regarded him as an enemy. It was such an unspeakable bitter suffering. So he felt like his cousin ought to give him some compensation for all this.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

“Cousin, you don’t know how terrifying Fifth Brother looked when he saw me. I’ve never seen Fifth Brother with such a horrifying expression before. After that day, I was so scared that I didn’t dare to sleep for three days and three nights. Can you see my two dark circles…”

Amidst his bombastic words, Fu Yuan Fan’s bitter complaints flowed out of his mouth like spilling beans.

One hour later

An Zi Ran signaled to Steward Zhou to pour a cup of tea for him to quench his thirst.

“Thank you.” Fu Yuan Fan received the cup of tea and finished it in one gulp. He didn’t know how long he had been talking for. All he knew was that he was very thirsty.

An Zi Ran asked, “Are you finished talking?”

Fu Yuan Fan stared at him blankly, and then he said, “I’m done talking.”

An Zi Ran nodded, put the teacup down on the table slowly, rolled his eyes, and then looked directly into Fu Yuan Fan’s eyes, “Do you know why you are here?”

Fu Yuan Fan couldn’t figure out what he was trying to say. After thinking about it, he felt that it could not be a shallow problem, so he thought deeply, “Of course I know, isn’t it because cousin asked me to look after Tian Long Gambling House?”

“En, then why would you be helping me look after the gambling house?”

“Of course it’s because I owe you…” Fu Yuan Fan started replying before thinking about his answer thoroughly. But right before he could say ten thousand taels, his brain finally caught up and he trailed off.

That’s right, the reason why he had to suffer this burden was entirely due to him losing ten thousand taels of silver to the gambling house. Because he did not have the money to repay the debt, he had to sell his ‘labor’ in exchange for an IOU. This was such a tragic fact of reality!

Fu Yuan Fan bowed his head weakly.

An Zi Ran stood up, walked over to him, patted him on the shoulder, and said, “Don’t worry, no one knows that the gambling house is run by Fu wangfu. Your brothers would not think that you’re working with us.”

“But they will find out sooner or later.”

Fu Yuan Fan looked at An Zi Ran bitterly. His facial features were relatively handsome, so it was really inappropriate for him to make this kind of expression like a bullied daughter-in-law.

An Zi Ran glanced at him and looked away, “Counter soldiers with arms, and counter flood water with an earth weir*. When the time comes, we will talk about it then.”

[*T/N: This entire sentence is an idiom and it means that one should adopt measures that are appropriate to the actual situation.]

Fu Yuan Fan felt that An Zi Ran was being irresponsible. This wasn’t a situation of when the boat reaches the bridge, it will pass underneath without trouble*.

[*T/N: “when the boat reaches the bridge, it will pass underneath without trouble” is a Chinese proverb that means everything will be all right]

If nothing unexpected happened, then the next emperor would be selected from among his three elder brothers. If the ultimate winner were Second Brother, then Fifth Brother, as a minister who has given outstanding service, definitely would not let him off the hook.

“Then it will be fine as long as you don’t let your second brother ascend to the throne, right?”

Fu Yuan Fan accidentally said what he was thinking out loud, and An Zi Ran answered him when he heard his words.

Fu Yuan Fan complained: “That’s easy for you to say. Even if it’s not Second Brother on the throne, Eldest Brother and Third Brother are both hard to get along with.”

The eldest prince Fu Yuan Wu was a paranoid person and extremely indifferent to brotherhood. It was impossible to expect him to remember their brotherhood after he took the throne.

The third prince, Fu Yuan Yang, was surly and irritable. He has always coveted the throne and regarded his brothers as thorns in his side. It was impossible to expect him to be merciful. It would already be good if he didn’t make up some excuse to kill off the others.

In summary, none of his brothers were good people, except for his forth brother who died young.

Fu Yuan Fan became sadder the more he thought about it.

I meant to post this chapter yesterday, but my internet died on me again. ORZ For some reason, the internet in my area is really spotty. Usually it cuts off for a few minutes and then comes back on, so I would just wait it out, but lately the downtimes have been getting longer, and restarting the router doesn’t seem to help either. I couldn’t wait around for the internet to come back on yesterday, because I had to get to sleep since I still have to work today. Luckily, the internet is cooperating right now. Chapter 88 – Jealousy (29.1)

That night, Qiu Jin felt like he had a thorn stuck in his back. Sleeping together with Ji Shenxiao was fine and all, but for some reason Ji Qisheng kept texting him abusive messages, saying stuff like how he has no sense of shame, how he didn’t have any acting skills, how horrible his songs sounded, how terrible he was on stage, and that he never produced a single piece of work that was good.

Qiu Jin couldn’t fall asleep, so he retorted: “How do you know that I have never produced a single piece of work that is good? Are you telling me that you’ve seen all of them?”

There was no response from the other end. After a long while, Ji Qisheng replied: “Who has seen your work, huh? Absolutely shameless!!!”

Qiu Jin could feel the other party’s anger through the screen. He finally felt at ease. Then he turned off his phone and prepared to go to sleep.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

He thought he would not be able to fall asleep, but expectedly, being next to the scent of a familiar pheromone, he slept surprisingly well, and didn’t wake up until dawn.

Qiu Jin didn’t know what was wrong with Ji Qisheng, but the youngster was still going against him on the second day.

Qiu Jin was just sitting there having breakfast, when Ji Qisheng plopped his butt right next to him, picked up a bowl of congee and gulped it down in a few swallows. Then glanced at Qiu Jin with a cold expression that carried a bit of smugness.

Qiu Jin: ?

When they went out to pick the corn, Qiu Jin was walking ahead while carrying a basket on his back. Ji Qisheng rushed over as if he didn’t see Qiu Jin and directly pushed him down the road.

Qiu Jin stepped in a puddle with one foot. Fortunately, he was wearing rubber boots for work, but it was enough to make him feel uncomfortable.

“Hey, stop right there.” Qiu Jin stood up.

Ji Qisheng said: “You’re talking to me?”

If not you then who?

Qiu Jin walked up to him and asked, “Do you have something against me?”

“No.” The child replied coolly with one word. Then he turned around and prepared to leave. Qiu Jin stopped him by grabbing the basket that was on his back.

“F*ck, what are you doing?”

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

“Teaching you to respect the old and cherish the young*.” After saying so, Qiu Jin lifted his foot and straight up rubbed the mud onto Ji Qisheng’s shoe.

[*T/N: Qiu Jin is mostly just saying “respect your elders,” but in Chinese it’s a stock phrase that includes “cherish the young” in the latter half of the phrase. Because if he really meant “cherish the young” then he’s certainly not practicing what he preaches here. Lol.]

Ji Qisheng immediately bristled like a cat that got stepped on. While trying to evade Qiu Jin, he complained: “How disgusting are you? Let me go!”

He didn’t expect that Qiu Jin, who was half a head shorter than him, to be this strong. No matter how he tried to evade the other person, Qiu Jin could accurately step on him.

Ji Qisheng was so annoyed that he directly raised his foot and his rain boot swung out. The boot tumbled through the air before landing on Ji Shenxiao’s trouser leg with a “crack.”

Ji Qisheng’s expression went blank.

Ji Shenxiao’s face darkened.

After a short pause, Ji Qisheng rushed over immediately. He picked up his shoe while crying: “Brother, I was wrong. It was all Qiu Jin’s fault. I didn’t think it would hit you.”

Ji Shenxiao: “Let’s go.”

Just two words from Ji Shenxiao were more lethal than ten sentences from Qiu Jin. Ji Qisheng immediately fell silent.

This time, it was Qiu Jin’s turn to be complacent: “The eldest brother is like a father. If you raise the child without teaching him, then it is the father’s fault.”

Ji Shenxiao glanced over at him coldly.

Qiu Jin: “…”

Qiu Jin dropped back to fall into step with Ji Qisheng. The two talked bad about Ji Shenxiao behind his back. Suffering in the same boat, the two began to sympathize with each other.

After complaining about Ji Shenxiao, Qiu Jin then asked Ji Qisheng: “Why do you dislike me? Are you a brocon?”

“How shameless can you be? You’re the one who is a chest con!” Ji Qisheng’s ears turned strangely red.

He’s quite pure and innocent, Qiu Jin thought. He couldn’t help but tease the youngster a few times. “Then what’s the reason?”

Ji Qisheng glanced at him. His face became serious: “You want me to tell the truth?”

Qiu Jin smiled and said, “Tell me about it.”

Ji Qisheng frowned: “Your singing and dancing are a complete mess. Your acting skills are even more appalling. And you keep sticking to my brother. If I don’t dislike you, then who else am I going to dislike?”

There was even a rhythm to his answer*. But Qiu Jin didn’t get angry. He said, “It’s not convenient to dance right now. But how about I stretch my vocal chords and sing for you?”

[*T/N: In Chinese, Ji Qisheng’s answer has a rhyme to it.]

“No. You sound horrible.” Ji Qisheng was disgusted. “A million tuners can’t solve your broken voice.”

Qiu Jin straight up opened his mouth and started singing.

Ji Qisheng was shocked.

His first thought was that the voice was nice and the timbre was on point. Although Qiu Jin sang as he walked, his breath was very steady, and Ji Qisheng couldn’t hear any obvious breathing sounds in his singing. This kind of singing level was already better than a lot of idols.

If Qiu Jin could produce such results just from singing casually, then what would it be like if he sang seriously?

Ji Qisheng felt insulted. He turned he head and asked, “Are you kidding me? You can sing so well now. Why did you sing so badly before?”

Qiu Jin replied easily: “I was wounded by love, so I worked for prosperity.”

Ji Qisheng: “…”

Fine, that sounded reasonable enough.

Chapter 77 – Father Duan is the Matchmaker (Wugeng)

“I’ve never met him before, but I have heard of him.” Lu Shi’s handsome eyes were dyed with light, showing the charm of a Film Emperor. “I heard from Man Man that you and him have a good relationship.”

Duan Shu Tong lowered his eyes and smiled, but he did not refute Lu Shi’s words. “It’s Uncle Xi who takes care of me a lot.”

With his eyes lowered, Duan Shu Tong couldn’t see it, but Lu Shi’s eyes narrowed slightly. He had never heard that Xi Duan would kindly take care of anyone.

Judging from how Duan Shu Tong was like before, it was absolutely impossible for Xi Duan to associate with someone like him.

This matter was a little strange.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Lu Shi temporarily suppressed his curiosity and teased: “I never heard of President having friends before. You are probably the first one.”

Suddenly the phone rang, and Duan Shu Tong was stunned for a moment before taking it out. When he saw the caller ID, he couldn’t help but be a little surprised.

“Dad?” He got up from the sofa and walked to the balcony.

Lu Shi leaned back on the sofa. His eyes went to the young man standing in front of the French window. Beyond the window, the sky was tinted a rosy red and strewn with wisps of white clouds. Buildings dotted the scene in the distance. The scene looked like a stage set to show off the young man’s charms.

Lu Shi has seen many beauties in the entertainment industry. Duan Shu Tong’s appearance could already be counted amongst the forefront. Coupled with the young man’s unique temperament, Lu Shi has reason to suspect that the reason why President always took care of the young man was not that simple.

After all, that kind of thing was not uncommon.

Duan Shu Tong didn’t know that someone else was viewing him like painting. He was currently listening very calmly to Duan Sheng Ye’s repeated exhortation.

“Both your sister and I don’t have the time to take care of the activities over at Hai City. If you have time, take a trip there.”

“What kind of activities?”

Duan Sheng Ye’s tone was very gentle, like a loving father teaching earnestly, “We are invited to participate in the annual innovative brand exhibition. We have to go to show our sincerity.”

Duan Shu Tong was worrying about how to refuse when he heard Duan Sheng Ye say, “You haven’t participated in it before, so it would be good to go and broaden your horizons. At that time, be sure to go to the exhibition area for our family, look at other people’s products, compare them carefully, and write me a report of your thoughts. This is very important. You can’t be lazy about it.”

In the past, the father and the daughter of the Duan family would take turns attending such activities. Duan Shu Tong had never bothered with such events before, but now Duan Sheng Ye has the intention of training him.

It was a rare experience to meet bigwigs in other industries. Interacting more with other people at such exhibitions and learning about how things were developing in all sorts of different trades was much better than just sitting at home and valuing something simply because it was your own.

“But I…” want to invite someone to dinner on Saturday!

“No buts!” Duan Sheng Ye slowly tore off the pretense of speaking like a gentle father, revealing his tough nature. “There are many seniors there. Learn from them more. You’re not young anymore. You can’t always rely on your family in the future.”

After Duan Sheng Ye finished speaking, he hung up the phone, leaving no room for rejection.

Duan Shu Tong: …Such injustice, he never had the thought of relying on his family in the future.

Father Duan really gave him a problem. He has already changed the date of the dinner once, so he couldn’t change it again, right?

He was sighing and wondering if there was a perfect way to deal with this matter. The WeChat alert suddenly sounded.

He looked down and saw that it was a WeChat message from Cen Ning: Young Master Duan, President Xi just received a call from Chairman Duan, saying that you’re going with us to Hai City on Saturday. [Grinning emoji] [Grinning emoji] [Grinning emoji]

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Duan Shu Tong’s eyes lit up. That’s right! Why didn’t he think of this? If the Duan family received an invitation, then the Xi family definitely received one too!

He happily replied: Okay, I’m going to freeload and carpool with you guys again. [Facepalm emoji] [Facepalm emoji] [Facepalm emoji]

Cen Ning showed Xi Duan his reply. At first Xi Duan smiled, but then his expression fell again.

When chatting with other people Duan Shu Tong used three emojis, but when chatting with Xi dUan, he didn’t even use one!

Cen Ning: …

President Xi, did you study Sichuan Opera before? How can you change your face so fast?!

[T/N: This is Sichuan Opera. https://youtu.be/GKEs8WTqHto Watch how quickly the performer changes the mask on their face. Cen Ning is making fun of Xi Duan for changing the expression on his face so quickly.]

Chapter 87 – I’ll Sleep With Qiu Jin

On the other side, Bai Tang continued. He took a bite of the fruit and squinted his eyes contentedly: “After eating this kind of thing, how can you eat the mediocre goods grown under industrialization?”

Qiu Jin was curious. “Bai-laoshi, do you grow a lot of fruits at home?”

Bai Tang sighed. “Alas, my yard is too small. I was thinking of buying a plot of land to grow things after I retire.”

Ji Shenxiao, who had been silent all the time, suddenly spoke up: “Has Bai-laoshi considered settling in Lanhou Island?”

Bai Tang asked, “Here?”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Ji Shenxiao gave him a professional smile. “Lanhou Island has launched a poetic retirement project. Buying a villa comes with half a mu of fertile land. Whether it is a flower garden or a vegetable field, it can satisfy your rural life.”

[T/N: A mu is a unit of area equal to one fifteenth of a hectare. And LOL at Ji Shenxiao’s business pitch. It comes with a complementary smile.]

Bai Tang thought about it carefully and came to the conclusion that it was not a bad idea.

Ji Shenxiao said, “If Bai-laoshi need it, I’ll give you a twenty percent discount.”

Everyone: “…”

So a bazong* is this willful and headstrong when he sells a villa.

[*T/N: 霸总 ba zong – handsome high-powered businessman (a type of character in an eponymous genre of romantic fiction who typically has a soft spot for a girl of lower social status)]

Ji Shenxiao continued to smile: “If you guys want, I can also give you a twenty percent discount.”

When Ji Shenxiao said this, a few people really did start to get excited, especially Shan Wen and Tan Yunting. They liked this kind of lifestyle. The scenery of Lanhou Island was beautiful, the natural conditions were good, and they could travel off the island by plane. It was only a short two-hour ride to Beijing.

At present, a villa did not exceed eight million, and with the twenty percent discount, it was really quite cheap.

The director was also excited. In the end, a group of people gathered around Ji Shenxiao to learn about the details.

Qiu Jin: “…”

To be able to do business like this was also considered a skill.

Naturally, Ji Shenxiao wasn’t giving away things for free. The natural scenery of Lanhou Island was excellent, but the population count was slightly insufficient. If so many public figures were to live here, then over time, it would draw in more people to the island.

After watching the group of people chatter for a while, Qiu Jin finished eating his peach. He washed his hands and prepared to go upstairs to wash up. It was then that he realized a terrifying fact. There were eight people in the small villa tonight. There were obviously not enough rooms!

He pulled Shan Wen aside and asked in a low voice, “Ge, we don’t have enough rooms for everyone, right?”

Shan Wen nodded: “Yunting and I are planning to sleep on the floor*. We’ll give our room to the two guests.”

[*T/N: 打地铺 – to make one’s bed on the floor, with blankets, mats, etc]

“Your wife is pregnant. How can she sleep on the floor?” Qiu Jin thought about it and said, “I can give up my bed and let Mr. Bai Tang sleep in it. Ji Qisheng is still young. Let the two of us sleep on the floor.”

When Ji Qisheng heard this suggestion, he immediately wanted to quit.

Coming to the countryside? Fine.

Doing farm work? He’ll grit his teeth and bear it.

But to make him sleep on the floor? Did they think he came to the countryside to assist the poor or something?

Bai Tang didn’t care one way or the other. He said with a smile, “Then we’ll switch places.”

Qiu Jin interjected, “No way. You’re the most senior one in the whole house. How can we let you sleep on the floor while we juniors all sleep in beds?”

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Haiya, it’s just sleeping on the floor.” Bai Tang waved his hand. “When I was young, I went over the mountains to find delicious food, and I even slept in a Tibetan cowshed. The temperature difference between day and night in the Tibetan area is huge, and there was no quilt or anything. I even took the initiative to sit next to the yak to keep warm.”

Qiu Jin said, “Are you really all right with that?”

“Are you looking down on the old man?” Bai Tan said with a stern face, “I’m only in my fifties. Sleeping on the floor is no big deal.”

Since the other party was saying it like this, then Qiu Jin stopped trying to persuade him. Hence, he carried out the latex mattress and set it off to one side. After everyone has washed up and headed upstairs, they could put the mattress down in the living room.

What Qiu Jin didn’t expect was that after he made the bed, Ji Shenxiao suddenly came over.

“How about Mr. Bai Tang sleep in my bed? Qiu Jin and I will sleep here.”

After he finished speaking, he sat down, giving the others no chance of rejecting at all.

Qiu Jin: “?”

Ji Qisheng: “???”

Ji Qisheng was stunned for a good while before he came back to his senses. He said in disbelief, “No. Brother, what’s wrong with you?”

Ji Shenxiao raised his eyebrows: “Do you have something to say?”

Ji Qisheng has been afraid of Ji Shenxiao ever since he was a child. At this moment, being looked at by his brother’s cold and indifferent glance made his entire person freeze up. He didn’t say anything against it, but he looked at Qiu Jin with resentment on his face.

Qiu Jin: “…”

Hey, this had nothing to do with him.

Ji Shenxiao sighed and said with a sullen face, “Ji Qisheng, go upstairs and sleep.”

“…”

Ji Qisheng keep thinking about it, but even by the time he crawled into bed he still couldn’t figure it out: when did he sink to the bottom of the food chain?

Chapter 131

Su Shi didn’t know how long he has been asleep. The sky outside was already bright, and the bright light has penetrated through the cracks in the wooden house.

The protagonist still didn’t seem to have the intention of letting go. The arm outside of the blanket was cold from the chilly air, while his back was warm from the protagonist’s embrace, making him even more reluctant to move away.

This temperature and breath were both too familiar. Su Shi was even more uncertain if this was the same person or not. He lowered his head and drank the soup slowly. He spared part of his attention to listen to the vice team leader continue to prattle and nag.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

They were still staying in the woods. Yuan Zheng originally only wanted to find some place to shelter them from the elements, but then he accidentally discovered this hut left by a forest ranger, so he summoned the team members back.

Although the one that led the attack on them was commissioned by Dr. He, the ammunition was supplied from at least one base. Apart from the headquarters, the only people who knew the whereabouts of the patrol team was the Base T that commissioned them for this job.

The mission’s flavor was abruptly changed. Perhaps the entire commission was one big conspiracy. On the contrary, the team members did not have the interest to complete the task.

Yuan Zheng didn’t plan to just rush into the snare. He simply cut off all communications and temporarily stopped here with the patrol team.

All of these reasons actually made sense, but it was not difficult to guess the real reason once Su Shi observed this small wooden house and saw the team members scrambling to squeeze into the room with delight and concern upon hearing the news of his awakening.

The patrol team had stopped here just to wait for him to wake up.

Su Shi’s eyes pricked with tears. He lowered his gaze and raised the corner of his lips. He suddenly stretched out his right arm and spread his hand out. His eyebrows bend in a gentle arc.

In the narrow and dark wooden house, a refreshing breeze suddenly faintly flowed.

Verdant green leaves sprouted slowly from the center of his palm, and flower buds emerged from the branches and leaves. The buds unfurled into white petals, blooming silently. The flowers were small and delicate with brilliant golden centers. They were so beautiful that everyone watching felt their eyes going hot [with tears].

It’s been more than ten years since the end of the world. The people have long become accustomed to seeing a gloomy sky and contaminated water and land. Plants have mutated into dangerous threats. The people have even started to forget what flowers originally looked like.

The lush daisies bloomed vigorously in the hand of the young man. The image burned itself into all the viewers’ retinas. The tight restraints that they had kept on their longing [for greenery] gradually loosened, and their visions were blurred by water vapors.

Su Shi didn’t speak. He just stuffed the bunch of daisies into the deputy team leader’s hands, and his clear gaze fell on everyone.

Yuan Zheng’s gaze was warm and wet with tears. His arms tightened unconsciously. He leaned his cheek against the young man’s soft short hair. The corners of his lips curved up gently, and he was suddenly very thankful for his decision.

Su Shi rested for a while, and finally recovered enough strength to get up. He insisted on having Yuan Zheng lead him out of the room.

Of course it was no accident that the protagonist could find this cabin. His [Bonanza] skill has activated again, and the red dot on the map that represented an arsenal was blinking incessantly, urging him to quickly appropriate it for himself.

[T/N: Reminder, his Bonanza skill was first mentioned in chapter 62.]

The Son of Hell mostly relied on his supernatural abilities to do things, and Unbounded City was protected by a bloodthirsty forest, so weapons and ammunition did not in fact have much use. However, the patrol team needed these things, and the armored vehicle had broken down on the road. Of course he did not plan to walk to Base T just like this.

“What is it? Did you find something?”

Seeing him walking deeper and deeper into the woods, Yuan Zheng also vaguely had some premonitions in his heart, and quickly followed him and helped him move aside any low-hanging branches.

Su Shi nodded and led the way. Within a dense forest, suddenly a modern building made of reinforced concrete appeared before their eyes.

Yuan Zheng stared, a peculiar light flashing through his eyes.

When he had carried Su Shi into the woods, it was deep into the night, and he did not have the motivation to explore the surrounding area. He only wanted to keep guard of the unconscious young man in the cabin. He did not expect to find such a large arsenal hidden in this forest.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Seeing this building that has clearly been in used before, the small wooden house that appeared abnormally in the forest also got a reasonable explanation.

It was most likely not the residence of some forest rangers, but a lookout station where sentry garrisoned arms.

Yuan Zheng made this connection in the blink of an eye. He chuckled lowly. When he met with Su Shi’s clear black eyes, he could not help but raise his hand and lay it upon the young man’s shoulder.

“You don’t have to give us everything. You have to keep some things for yourself, understand?”

Even if you were to discover this arsenal by accident, you would still have to search around. It was impossible to go all the way to the arsenal with such precision.

But Su Shi didn’t even need to discern the direction on the road. Obviously, he had planned to bring Yuan Zheng here from the beginning.
