Chapter 86 – I’ll Sleep With Qiu Jin

On the stove sat a few ears of pitch-black corn. They had been grilled too much and had turned into charcoal.

Qiu Jin said: “It’s just a few ears of corn. There’s still more outside.”

“It’s not about the corn,” Geng Leyue said angrily. “He’s been like this ever since he was a child. He deliberately goes against me about everything.”

Been like this since childhood?

Qiu Jin was surprised: “You guys are childhood sweethearts?”

“Who is a childhood sweetheart with him!”

“Who is a childhood sweetheart with him!”

Unanimous double negative answers mean affirmation.

After shouting loudly, Ji Qisheng couldn’t keep moping [about the burnt corn]. He braced himself and said bravely, “…I didn’t do it on purpose. I didn’t know the fire was so big.”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Seeing that Geng Leyue was about to say something else, Qiu Jin opened his mouth first. He patted Ji Qisheng on the back and said: “How about you go out and bring back a few more?”

This time the corn did not get messed up. The yellow corn was lightly charred and smelled very fragrant. The texture was soft and al dente. The two of them were tit-for-tat just a moment ago, but now they were nibbling on corn together with a smile.

Le sigh. He really was a kid.

As the sun slowly sunk beyond the horizon, the last guest finally arrived.

A slightly fat old man came over with a suitcase. He started shouting even when he was quite a fair distance away, “Is there any pork strips stir-fried with yuxiang?”

Everyone was shocked when they heard this voice, and raised their heads to look.

The final guest turned out to be Bai Tang?

The food critic that you couldn’t even request [to attend an event] with a boatload of money? The person that could make a restaurant famous with just a word of praise? The one with a poisonous mouth and an even sharper tongue? That Bai Tang?

Such a picky and fussy golden tongue, how did they get him to come on a variety show?

Hearing Bai Tang’s question, Qiu Jin was a little embarrassed: “I’m sorry, there is no meat today.”

Bai Tang: “…”

Bai Tang was shocked. The filming crew had tricked him to come with the promise of meat!

Afraid that this big shot would turn around and leave in a fit of anger, Shan Wen hurriedly chimed in: “But tomorrow, after breaking the corn, we can exchange it for money to buy meat in the town. It’s fifty yuan a box!”

In the end, Bai Tang stayed and ate two large bowls of rice for dinner.

After the meal, Shan Wen chatted with Bai Tang while washing the fruit.

“Bai-laoshi, people on the Internet all say that you only eat food delivered by air transport. Is that true?”

“That’s the media writing without basis.” Bai Tang raised his eyebrows. “There is a premise behind that saying, and that is I only eat fresh ingredients. If it’s an ingredient from overseas, then in order to ensure the freshness, I will only eat it if it’s delivered by air transport.”

“So the main point is not about the price and rarity, right?”

Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels (dot) com

“Of course. Our ancestors say that seasonal and fresh food is the most delicious.” Bai Tang pointed at the corn that has been nibbled clean. “Even if you’re boiling corn with just water, there is no need to add anything else or do anything elaborate. Being fresh is enough.”

Shan Wen nodded. He felt the same way. “Fresh ingredients are the purest delicacy.”

Bai Tang picked up a freshly washed peach from the bowl: “Just like this peach, in order to maintain long-distance transportation, it is often picked raw and then ripened. If you see it at the supermarket, it’s probably been picked for more than a week, so they’re pretty bland, hardly like a peach.”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

“But the peach that I have in my hand is different. I picked it from the tree ten minutes ago. Look at it, the rich aroma is about to burst out.” Bai Tang explained while turned the peach towards the camera. “Fruits of this maturity are never going to be in supermarkets because they tend to rot within the second day of transport.”

Many people around began to secretly swallow their saliva. Bai-laoshi was so eloquent. Not going on live broadcast to sell fruit was simply a waste. An ordinary peach could sound so delicious when described by him.

Qiu Jin was already full, but after hearing what Bai Tang said, he couldn’t help but go over to a tree to pick a peach.

The inside of the peach was already ripe. The skin broke with just the slightest squeeze and the delicious juice flowed out. Qiu Jin’s hand was drenched in peach juice. Not wanting to waste it, he stuck out his tongue and directly licked up the juice.

Chapter 13 – The Things I Want to Give to You (5.1)

“Where could An Ji have gone?”

Inside the An family’s mansion, Xu Jing’an was circling around and around in the drawing room like a headless chicken.

“Do you think it’s because we’re not enthusiastic enough towards him? Or did we scare him away by talking too much? Or perhaps he doesn’t like the marriage we arranged for him?”

“Hey, old man*, say something, ah! Is your head just filled with mecha?” Xu Jing’an slapped her husband on the back and said angrily, “We lost our son for so long, are you not anxious at all?”

[*T/N: 老头子 lao tou zi – a way to address one’s aging husband. Informal.]

“Who says I’m not anxious?” The man on the sofa opened his eyes. He enunciated each and every word, “While you were pacing around like a headless chicken, I was arranging for people to perform a global search for An Ji’s location on the optical computer.”

Xu Jing’an: “Then where is he?”

An Yanming: “…”

Xu Jingan rolled her eyes gracefully. She was so pissed that she was about to erupt like a volcano.

“Mother, drink some water first. Calm down or it’ll be bad for your health.” Just when it looked like swords and bows were about to be drawn, a youngster came over with a cup of water.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

The youth was dressed gorgeously and his behavior was elegant, but it was unfortunate that there was a gleam of calculation hidden in his eyes, which dragged down the aura of his temperament.

“After all, Big Brother An Ji has lived on the Junk Star for many years. Coming back so suddenly, perhaps he is not used to the Capital Star’s environment and that’s why he wants to go back.”

Xu Jing’an glanced at her adopted son with a complicated expression.

After An Ji and An Can went missing, she had adopted this boy into the family. When he was young he was so adorable and cute, but unfortunately the older he got the deeper his thoughts became. He was an adept schemer and he did not seem to possess a magnanimous demeanor at all.

Just listen to what he had said. What kind of words were those? What did he mean by [An Ji] being used to life on the Junk Star and not wanting to live on the flourishing Capital Star?

On a normal day, Xu Jing’an would try to teach him, but today she was really jittery, so her expression went cold and she said straightforwardly, “Back then, I brought you here from the Junk Star, but I didn’t see you rejecting the Capital Star’s environment.”

Her words were so blunt that they were a bit hard to take. For a moment, An Ning looked as shocked as if someone had smashed a plate of salad into his face.

It took him a while to re-adjust his mood. He smiled obsequiously, “That’s because Mom and Dad are very kind to me, so I want to stay and repay your kindness.”

Xu Jing’an: “So you’re saying that I treat An Ji poorly?”

An Ning: “…”

How was he supposed to follow up on that?

This adoptive mother of his was always easy to get along with. She was carefree to the point of being stupid. He never thought that she would be like an exploding barrel with a short fuse today.

An Ning was having troubling keeping the fake smile on his face. He still wanted to say more, but Xu Jing’an ordered the robot butler beside her: “Annie, it’s time for An Ning’s bedtime.”

“Yes, Master.” A white and round robot came over. “Young Master An Ning, it is time to go to sleep now.”

Finally, the elegance on An Ning’s face could no longer be maintained. He hadn’t achieved his goal today, so it was absolutely impossible for him to leave in vain.

An Ning grabbed the corner of Xu Jing’an’s clothes, and said urgently: “How about we cancel Big Brother An Ji’s engagement. Then he will come back!”

“Although it hasn’t been announced to the public yet, how can a royal engagement be cancelled so easily?” Xu Jing’an waved her hand, “You don’t have to worry about these things. You’re about to go to college, so you should prepare yourself instead.”

“Why not? The engagement was with the An family and not An Ji specifically!” An Ning blurted out. “If Brother really doesn’t want to do it, then let me do it!”

Xu Jing’an looked up at An Ning. She finally realized what her adopted son was scheming. In an instant she became even more annoyed.

“Don’t mention this matter again in the future,” Xu Jing’an said firmly, “Go to bed by yourself.”

An Ning opened his mouth, wanting to say something else, but then he saw the other party’s serious expression, and he could only give up. With a face full of unwillingness, he left.

In the living room, Xu Jing’an rubbed the center of her brows, and said with a tired face: “If this continues, I’m going to get more wrinkles.”

“Why are you quibbling with an adopted son?” An Yanming opened his eyes and said in a steady voice, “If you don’t like him then just send him away.”

“We’ll talk about it later.” Xu Jing’an sighed. She has been raising that boy for over ten years after all, so naturally she’s developed some affection for him.

Back then she had indeed adopted An Ning and An Yao as replacements for her two lost children. Although she later changed her mind and there was no shortage of growth and education, she still felt ashamed. An Yao was fine, but An Ning really gave her a headache…

Chapter 132.2 – To Restore

The next morning, they set off for Jun Zi City. Steward Su was reluctant to part. An Zi Ran brought Chef Wang and Zhou Laohan’s family along with him. Because there were children in the family, they decided to all go to the capital together as a family after some discussion. Based on their family’s current income, they were fully capable of buying a house in Jun Zi City.

Upon hearing the news that they were going to return to the capital very soon, everyone in the Fu wangfu was very happy. Even Head Steward Fu came back early.

This time he kept his promise and raised the little bun to be very rosy and healthy. However, the little bun was too round, and accidentally turned into a little fatty, but the result was still very gratifying.

“Oh, I haven’t seen him for a few months, Zi Ming is getting heavier and heavier.”

An Zi Ran picked up the little bun that was clinging on to his leg. As soon as he got his arms around the little bun, he could feel how heavy he was. The little bun really did get fatter. It wasn’t a misperception. The little face was especially round, ruddy, and adorable.

“Gege…”

The little bun enunciated very clearly, and called to him excitedly. It sounded like he had been practicing a lot. His soft lips directly stamped a kiss onto An Zi Ran’s cheek, smearing his saliva everywhere. The little bun laughed happily, as if he had succeeded in getting away with a sneak attack.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Blood relations cannot be changed. Even if the little bun had not seen him for a few months, he still recognized his older brother at a glance.

“Was Zi Ming a good boy while big brother was away?” An Zi Ran pinched his tender cheeks. They looked so plump. It was as if water could be squeezed out of them. The little bun’s skin was very nice and supple.

Although the little bun could talk, he could not understand sentences that were too complicated. He held onto his brother’s neck with his chubby paws and refused to let go.

Fu Yi spoke: “He was very good. He’s only so active now because you are here.”

“During my absence, I have troubled second uncle to take care of him.” After learning about Fu Yi’s background, An Zi Ran changed to calling him second uncle.

“We’re a family, and I also like little Zi Ming very much. This place hasn’t been so lively in a long time.”

An Zi Ran thought for a bit, but in the end he did not say what he was thinking. Actually, he very much doubted the authenticity of that sentence. If you asked him, the wangfu was lively everyday with the amnesiac laowangye around [to make trouble].

“By the way, why don’t I see grandfather?”

Fu Yi laughed: “Recently, there’s been a bit of problem with his brain. He has been hiding in his room for a couple of days and has not come out. Leave him alone. It will be better in a few days.”

“What’s the matter with grandfather, is his illness acting up again?” Fu Wu Tian raised his eyebrows in question.

“It can’t be regarded as his illness acting up,” Fu Yi replied ambiguously.

There was no need for him to illuminate any more. Fu Wu Tian could guess what was going on. With a calm face, he asked a few questions, “When did it happen? Did you have a doctor see to grandfather? Will it happen again?”

Fu Yi replied: “The doctor said that he needs to be observed for some more time, so I’m having him stay in his room more often.” After saying that, he gave An Zi Ran a meaningful look.

An Zi Ran noticed. His eyebrows furrowed imperceptibly. It seemed like the laowangye’s illness was taking a turn for the better, and his personality might deviate a lot. As a result, the laowangye who has recovered from his illness might not accept An Zi Ran as a male daughter-in-law*?

[*T/N: The text specified “male daughter-in-law” as opposed to simply “son-in-law”]

In the evening, the two went to bed after washing up and preparing to turn in for the night.

An Zi Ran put his head on Fu Wu Tian’s sturdy and broad chest, and listened to his strong and powerful heartbeat. After sharing the bed together for half a year, he was already very used to this.

After a while, An Zi Ran took the initiative to break the silence in the room.

“What did the doctor say about grandfather’s illness?”

When he married Fu Wu Tian, he did not put any thought into having heirs for the Fu wangfu, but it was different now. You could say that there’s still a second uncle around [to have children], but he was already forty years old.

Judging from what Fu Yi said during the day, grandfather probably would not agree to Fu Wu Tian marrying a male wife who could not lay eggs, so An Zi Ran might have to make some preparations?

“There is a possibility of recovery, but it is uncertain. After recovery, it is the same, he might relapse at any moment.” Fu Wu Tian looked up at the canopy of the bed. He had one arm around An Zi Ran’s waist. His tone was absent-mindedly content.

An Zi Ran raised his head and looked into his eyes, “What if he insists that you marry a concubine?”

Fu Wu Tian met his gaze. His black eyes flashed with a bright light in the dark, “This prince has his own way to deal with him.”

“Second uncle?”

“It goes without saying.”

“Heh, that’s really something to look forward to!”

An Zi Ran actually wanted to see what the laowangye would be like after he recovered his memory. He heard that Fu Wu Tian inherited his personality from the laowangye, but so far, he has not seen how they could be similar.

“It would definitely surprise wangfei.”

At that moment, An Zi Ran really did not know how different the amnesiac laowangye’s personality was compared to his previous self. The laowangye before his amnesia was like Fu Wu Tian when he was about to kill someone. He was a powerful and fierce persona.

Chapter 74 – Laba

Zhang Ji He woke up dazed and bewildered.

Whoa!

Wasn’t he just in the study room thinking of countermeasures for dealing with the Xue Zhi Qi situation?

Somehow, he seemed to have fallen asleep.

Where was this place? Zhang Ji He rubbed his eyes and found himself sitting on a reclining chair. He was in an elegantly furnished room, which was scented with the smell of sandalwood.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

When Zhang Ji He walked to the outer room he saw a young man dressed as a scholar sitting and steeping tea. His dignified and flowing movements were enchanting to watch. If it weren’t for the situation at this moment, Zhang Ji He would not be able to help applauding him in his heart.

“Zhang-daren*, you’re awake…” The young man raised his head and glanced at Zhang Ji He, his hands still moving slowly.

[*T/N: 大人 da ren – literal translation is “big person.” It is used as a title of respect toward superiors.]

“Who are you? Why am I here…” Zhang Ji He said vigilantly.

“This humble servant is Zheng Jia. I took the liberty of inviting Zhang-daren here. Please forgive me for being so bold.” Zheng Jia handed a cup of steeped tea to Zhang Ji He. “Please help yourself [to the tea].” Zheng Jia poured a second cup for himself and took a sip.

The name Zheng Jia sounded familiar to Zhang Ji He. Wait a minute… Wasn’t Zheng Jia the crown prince’s best adviser, nicknamed Zhu Ge* junior, and the third young master of the Zheng family?

[*T/N: Zhu Ge refers to Zhu Ge Liang, who was a military leader and prime minister of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period. He’s considered a sage and military genius.]

Zhang Ji He took a sip of tea and concealed the panic in his heart. His son’s words flashed in his mind: a young man with a stoic face and a pretty xiaoshi by his side. That… that couldn’t have been His Royal Highness, right…?

Zhang Ji He has also heard the news of the crown prince excessively doting on a xiaoshi. If it were His Royal Highness… then everything would make sense. With the crown prince’s personality, naturally he would not be afraid of the Xue family, and only His Royal Highness could have Xue Zhi Qi killed with none the wiser…

“This one is here to help Zhang-daren today. That Madam Xue wants your son to pay with his life…” Zheng Jia really had to take his hat off to His Royal Highness.

Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels (dot) com

His Royal Highness actually came up with the plan to kill Xue Zhi Qi to alienate Xue Gui and his confidant. Of course, Zheng Jia would never be able to guess that the origin of all this was due to Xue Zhi Qi catcalling Lin Jia Bao, and bringing disaster upon himself…

Seeing that Zhang Ji He was silent, Zheng Jia continued to speak: “This one admires loyal people the most… but that would also depend on who this person is loyal to… After the incident with Xue Zhi Qi, do you still think that Xue Gui will treat you as his confidant? To a confidant that he no longer trusts, but who also knows many of his secrets… I believe Zhang-daren already knows the fate that awaits him…”

Zheng Ji He drank all the tea in the teacup. He was a smart man. Over the years, he was able to stand out from among Xue Gui’s many subordinates and become Xue Gui’s confidant. Naturally, he had his brilliance. He also understood what Zheng Jia was saying. The worst-case scenario for him would be the Zhang family falling to the bottom and him losing his life…

But to have him betray Xue Gui and the Xue family… the consequences was not something that he and his Zhang family could bear…

“I understand Zhang-daren’s apprehensions, but the Xue family is already in decline. Sooner or later, His Royal Highness will…” After a meaningful pause, Zheng Jia went on: “Think about it, Zhang-daren. I believe you can give His Royal Highness a satisfying response.”

Zhang Ji He was about to say something, but suddenly his vision became dark and he lost consciousness. When he woke up again, he found himself back in the study, as if he had just had a dream and never left.

In the blink of an eye, time passed, and it was the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, the Laba Festival.

Laba congee* was naturally indispensible for the Laba festival.

[*T/N: Laba congee is a ceremonial rice porridge dish eaten during the Laba festival. It started out as a rice dish cooked with red beans, but has since developed into many variations, usually with nuts and dried fruit, but can also include meat and produce depending upon the region.]

A few days ago, Xuan Yuan Han Cheng assigned the task of hosting the Laba Festival and delivering Laba congee to Lin Jia Bao. And Qiu-momo would be providing assistance.

Lin Jia Bao accepted this task very happily and set about to do it very seriously. He doubled-checked with Qiu-momo all the palaces that needed Laba congee, including the crown prince’s East Palace, the crown prince’s subordinates, and all the important court ministers.

Lin Jia Bao also personally checked the ingredients for making Laba congee. The Laba congee in the palace was made more exquisitely. Lin Jia Bao remembered that back home they used to make the Laba congee with eight ingredients. But in the palace, red dates, lotus seeds, walnuts, chestnuts, pine nuts, longan, ginkgo, red beans, peanuts, etcetera were all added to the white rice… There were no less than twenty kinds of ingredients in total.

Bright and early on the day of the Laba Festival, Lin Jia Bao had the chefs cook the Laba congee in a large pot. After the Laba congee was cooked, Lin Jia Bao presided over the worshipping ceremony. Under Qiu-momo’s guidance, Lin Jia Bao successfully completely his tasks one by one.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

The next step was to deliver the Laba congee to the various palaces. First it was to the emperor and the empress, then to the princes and the emperor’s other concubines. Then there were the servants of the crown prince’s East Palace, and finally His Royal Highness’s subordinates, as well as some of the courtiers’ families. All of this had to be delivered before noon.

When Lin Jia Bao was all done, Xuan Yuan Han Cheng just came back from morning court.

“Darling, you did a great job! Thanks for your hard work, my baby…”

“It’s not hard. I just gave the commands. It’s all thanks to Qiu-momo helping me. I also have to trouble Qiu-momo for the small family banquet in the evening. I only chose the menu…” Lin Jia Bao said humbly to Qiu-momo.

“Lin-xiaozhu is too humble. It is what this old servant should do.” Qiu-momo bowed to the crown prince and then tactfully retreated.

Xuan Yuan Han Cheng kissed Lin Jia Bao as if no one else was present. “My baby doesn’t have to worry about these things. You just need to know how to make decisions. Qiu-momo and the rest will arrange things…”

“Understood. The tasks that you assign me, I just want to do them well…” Lin Jia Bao said somewhat coquettishly.

Chapter 85 – I’ll Sleep With Qiu Jin (28.1)

When have Ji Qisheng ever lit a fire for cooking? He went into the kitchen and was brought to tears by the smoke. His limited edition t-shirt got dirty, but he got nothing done.

Geng Leyue immediately started ridiculing him. Ji Qisheng retorted a few words, but eventually fell silent and just frantically added firewood to the stove with a cold expression.

More and more firewood was stuffed into the stove. Ji Qisheng kept pressing the igniter, but the sporadic sparks were still quickly eliminated, leaving only puffs of white smoke.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Ji Qisheng blinked a few times. His eyes were swimming with tears.

Geng Leyue said: “Are you crying?”

“Who’s crying?” Ji Qisheng was annoyed. “There’s just too much smoke, okay?!”

Geng Leyue couldn’t keep watching anymore. He decided to go outside to recruit some help.

When Qiu Jin came in, he saw Ji Qisheng frantically stuffing firewood into the stove, and he even added a few large pieces of wood.

Qiu Jin set aside what he was working on and said to Ji Qisheng, “Just set it down and let me do it.”

Such a big log won’t be ignited even if you can cram it inside, he thought.

Qiu Jin didn’t know how, but his words ended up striking the other person’s sore spot.

Ji Qisheng’s eyes widened and he said fiercely, “Are you looking down on me?!”

His face was covered with ashes, and his expression was fierce.

Qiu Jin: “…”

Was this guy poisonous or something?

He made such a mess yet he still had such a strong ego?

Qiu Jin didn’t have the patience to deal with a child, so he said with a bad tone: “That’s right, I’m looking down on you. If you understand then quickly get up.”

“You-” Ji Qisheng got angry and said harshly, “You really are not a good person!”

Qiu Jin: “?”

Qiu Jin didn’t bother to argue with him. He took out all the extra wood that was crammed into the stove, poked a hole into the middle of the wood pile, and then pulled out the igniter.

Ji Qisheng still wanted to say something, but then he heard a “teng” sound and then a wave of heat rolled out from the stove. The fire was lit.

Support the translator. Read this on vmnovels (dot) com

Just as Qiu Jin was preparing to get up, he saw Ji Qisheng’s huge body squatting off to one side. He was like a big wolf dog. His eyes were blazing with the thirst for knowledge.

Qiu Jin could only explain: “Leave a space in the middle of the firewood so that the oxygen enters the firewood. That way, it’ll be easier to ignite.”

“When you’re first starting a fire, you don’t need such big logs. First, use something that is easy to catch fire, like tree leaves or small wooden sticks. When the fire is stable, then add the firewood.”

The kitchen door opened and Geng Leyue entered, carrying a few ears of glutinous white corn. He said he wanted to eat grilled corn.

Ji Qisheng stared at the corn. His Adam’s apple bobbed subconsciously. Then he turned to look at Qiu Jin.

“All right, let’s give you a chance to show off.” Qiu Jin stood up. “You watch the fire for me. Add some firewood when the fire burns low, and also pay attention to the corn.”

Ji Qisheng sat down happily. Then he realized that his expression was not right, and quickly put on a poker face. “It’s you who requested that I do this. It’s not like I wanted to do it, ah.”

Qiu Jin replied, “Okay, okay. I requested you do it. Please look after the fire for me, Ji Qisheng-tongxue*.”

[*T/N: 同学 tongxue – “student / classmate.” Here it is attached to Ji Qisheng’s name as a suffix.]

Satisfied, Ji Qisheng sat down regally on a small stool, as if he was a king about to be crowned.

In the yard, Ji Shenxiao was almost done with his assigned task. The fresh corn kernels have all turned into a milky white sticky substance.

Looking at this pot of white stuff, Qiu Jin suddenly remembered something and shouted, “Director, have you set a menu?”

“Not for today.”

“That’s a bit of a pity,” Qiu Jin said with a disappointed expression, “After all, we now have some kind of milky white and sticky liquid.”

Director: “…”

Qiu Jin retracted his gaze from the milky white and sticky substance with regret, but soon felt someone else’s eyes on him. It was Ji Shenxiao who was looking at him.

Qiu Jin said: “It’s all thanks to President Ji. This will soon become delicious food.”

Ji Shenxiao: “…”

He had a feeling that he was being teased in an obscene manner.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

However, only using freshly grounded corn to make buns was not enough. They needed to add a little flour for coagulation and a little sugar to taste. The corn leaves were not thrown away either. After pruning and rolling them, they became a container for raw materials.

When Qiu Jin prepared all the ingredients and brought them into the kitchen, he heard a cry from Geng Leyue as soon as he walked to the door.

“Ji Qisheng, you idiot, the corn is all mushy!”

Geng Leyue stood in the kitchen with his arms akimbo. He was furious. Ji Qisheng didn’t say a word of rebuttal. He sat on the small stool with his head lowered and a pitiful expression on his face.

Chapter 76 – Father Duan is the Matchmaker (Wugeng)

“Have you purchased Spring Flower No. 2 yet?” Xi Duan asked suddenly.

Cen Ning nodded hastily, “I have already informed the purchasing department. They will be ready for distribution next week.”

Xi Duan nodded and asked, “Do you know Lu Shi?”

Who? Why did this name sound so familiar?

Cen Ning racked his brains and suddenly a light bulb went off, “Is President Xi talking about Film Emperor Lu?”

“En.” Xi Duan said with an expressionless face. “Do you know about his facial injuries too?”

Since seeing the popular search query, he has reason to suspect that the person living with Duan Shu Tong right now was precisely this Lu Shi.

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Cen Ning was feeling a little frantic on the inside. His boss has never cared about what’s going on in the entertainment industry, so why was he suddenly asking about an actor?

“I know about it. President Xi, why are you asking about him?”

Xi Duan’s expression was dim. “I heard that Director Lu of Jinshi Jewelry has a son who is an actor.”

[T/N: Jinshi 金石 is literally “gold and stones,” as in precious stones.]

Cen Ning nodded, “Lu Shi is indeed the youngest son of the Lu family.”

“Oh.”

Xi Duan decided that he would not personally do any business with Jinshi Jewelry in the future.

Things continued to get more intense online.

The outbreak of all things takes time to ferment.

And the frenetic wave of Spring Flower No. 2 came a week later.

The cause of the outbreak came from the personal written account of a blogger.

The blogger said that the nature of his occupation was relatively dangerous. It just so happened that his arm was burned by fire not too long ago. After diagnosis and treatment, it was determined that the injury would definitely leave behind unsightly scars. He didn’t care about having scars on his arm, and he didn’t want to do any cosmetic surgery.

After a friend of his who was in the pharmaceutical-related industry found out about his burn injury, the friend gave him a bottle of Spring Flower No. 2, and he tried it…

When the netizens saw this blog, it was at the time when their appetite [for drama and news] was at the peak. Seeing the blog come to an abrupt end, they felt grievous to the extreme. One after another, they went to the comment section to ask how the follow-up was going.

After about five hours, the blogger came back and posted another Weibo: Had to go to work just then. I’m posting the pictures now.

Two pictures side by side. The same arm. Different scars.

The first one was obviously a new scar after being burned, but the second one looked much better. If what the blogger said was true, then Spring Flower No. 2’s “exaggerated” effect was absolutely divine!

It’s not that no one questioned the validity of this post, but after the blogger posted the date and results of the hospital diagnosis, most people shut up.

But this was only the effect on new scars. The effect for old scars has yet to be observed.

The popular search query about the “disfigured Film Emperor” from a few days ago has long sunk into some quagmire and been forgotten.

As for Lu Shi, he was leisurely and carefree, and continued to live his days like a salted fish*. He was thinking about how he had to leave Shan Quan County the next day, and he was a little reluctant to go.

As evident by proof, Duan Shu Tong’s ability was legit. Within a week, there was improvement to his face. When he video called Lin Man Man, she was shocked by the change.

It didn’t mean that there was a big change, but his face looked more harmonious than before, and the texture of his skin was gradually becoming more natural.

When he heard the door opening, Lu Shi immediately got up and went downstairs. He wore a thin and loose long-sleeved T-shirt and lead gray casual pants. He was a tall man. He stood at the head of a flight of stairs and looked at Duan Shu Tong, who was in the entrance hall.

The young man was carrying a bag in his hand and Lu Shi couldn’t see what was inside it.

Duan Shu Tong smiled when he saw Lu Shi and said, “The one-week observation period has passed. Lu-ge can go back to Yan City tomorrow.”

Lu Shi glanced at the bag. He laughed and joked, “I can share the housework [with you]. I think I did well with the chores these past few days.”

Duan Shu Tong was amused by him. He put the bag on the coffee table.

“A gift for someone?” Lu Shi asked curiously.

Duan Shu Tong nodded, “A friend.”

“President Xi of the Xi family?” Lu Shi asked, like a curious baby.

“You know him?” Duan Shu Tong felt stupid as soon as the question left his mouth. For someone like Xi Duan, there were way too many people who knew him.

Schedule Update!

Dear Readers,

Instead of taking time off from 1/23 – 1/27, I will be moving the break up a week from 1/16 – 1/20.

I originally planned to take that time off for visiting relatives during the Lunar New Year, as the traveling takes time and my older relatives tend to be very longwinded. But New Year’s preparations and spring cleaning is turning out to require more work than I had originally planned, so I need that extra time now rather than later.

The updates planned for 1/16 – 1/20 will be moved to 1/23 – 1/27 instead. (Maybe I can hide in the bathroom and translate a few lines on my phone while visiting relatives. Lol.)

Anyways, see you back here in about a week.

Chapter 130

The sharp gold power cut through one’s skin and flesh with no quarter. The electric arcs glowed with cold light, jumping and intertwining amongst the wounds, causing the pain to deepen rapidly, and the body to become stiff and numb in the blink of an eye.

Yuan Zheng would not mistake this feeling.

The original conjecture was overturned, and a thought that even he couldn’t believe suddenly rose in his heart.

The Son of Hell’s abilities that seemed to come from the underworld itself was too terrifying. It nearly ignored all the set rules of supernatural powers. Most opponents would not even have the courage to fight him head on, so even less people would realize that the manipulation of bloodthirsty vines and pitcher plants was ultimately a subdivision of plant manipulation.

When the Son of Hell appeared, Mu Shi just so happened to be absent, and when Mu Shi came back, the violent energy that belonged to the thunder-type supernatural being appeared in his body.

The speculation that the deputy team leader once put forward suddenly seemed infinitely closer to the original truth of the matter.

Looking at the young man, Yuan Zheng’s gaze deepened for a moment, but the weak trembling of the young man’s eyebrows on his pale forehead roused Yuan Zheng again and he held his breath. He suddenly restrained all his thoughts.

If that crazy conjecture [of the deputy team leader’s] did indeed touch upon the truth faintly, then perhaps the young man was the same as his [Yuan Zheng’s] own deductions.

Yuan Zheng believed that the Son of Hell was in fact eager to put aside the dark past that has imprisoned his entire life. That he also wanted to try living the most ordinary kind of life. He wanted to get along well with other people, eat normal people food, and when he wanted to rest there would be someone to help guard his back.

Whether his guess was right or wrong, he shouldn’t be the one to destroy everything that they had.

With a very light sigh of relief, Yuan Zheng adjusted his posture slightly. He was just about to carry Mu Shi up, but found his movements stagnated.

All this time, Mu Shi had not let go of his hand.

A warm current flowed silently through Yuan Zheng’s chest, and the corners of his eyes felt faintly wet. Yuan Zheng didn’t let go of the young man’s hand. Instead, he carefully pulled Mu Shi into his arms and hugged him firmly.

When Su Shi woke up again, the pain in his body had subsided, and the ciolent lightning power had been completely tamed at some point. There was also a layer of jumping silver-white electric arc enveloped around his crystal core.

There was a warm and cozy touch at his back that made him feel dazed. When he opened his eyes and blinked, he was met with Yuan Zheng’s concerned and worried gaze.

Yuan Zheng placed a hand on Su Shi’s forehead. Only after a long while, did he let out a sigh. He lightly pushed aside the wet towel on Su Shi’s forehead.

“How is it? Do you feel a little better?”

Su Shi’s memory gradually came back.

When he was hurting so much that he couldn’t even think straight, he had instinctively grasped on to the other person’s clothes. He vaguely remembered electrocuting the doctor. His memories after that were all fragmented and disjointed.

As if guessing his thoughts, Yuan Zheng’s gaze softened. Still holding Su Shi steadily, he patiently slowed down his voice: “Before, when Dr. He took you away, he buried a bit of power in you, can you feel it?”

Su Shi was slightly startled. Before he could speak, the deputy team leader pushed open the door and entered.

He held two bowls of hot soup in his hands. When he saw that Su Shi had regained conscious, he breathed a sigh of relief, and finally showed some relief in his eyes: “Fortunately, you managed to endure through it.”

Su Shi could see his own pot becoming more and more misty and faint, while a baseless pot fell upon Dr. Dark’s head.

An inexplicable envy burst forth within Su Shi. He turned around subconsciously, met the protagonist’s gaze, and tried to explain.

Yuan Zheng’s hand went to his back and patiently stroked him twice, as if to indulge him. At the same time it seemed to reveal a bit of appeasement.

“That power almost occupied your body. If it weren’t for your strong willpower, he might have gained control over you.”

The hand on his back was warm and gentle. The warmth of Yuan Zheng’s palm faintly passed through Su Shi’s clothes and seeped into his skin, satisfactorily comforting Su Shi’s still tired body.

Su Shi was so comfortable that he couldn’t help but close his eyes. He compromised and calmed down, quickly considering what was going on.

“You sure have really good endurance [to pain]. The doctor said you’ve been in terrible pain for a long time, and you even went through his medicine box looking for analgesics. Why didn’t you tell us?”

The deputy team leader squatted down in front of him, handed him the bowl of soup, and kindly explained: “At that time, you lost consciousness from the pain. Only then did we know that you’ve been enduring the pain all this time. The doctor said that there was an unfamiliar force in your body that wanted to control you. Our captain examined you and found out that it was a residual left by that Dr. He. He tried to help you extract that foreign power. Right now, the situation looks good.”

It was actually a pretty good excuse, and it sounded much more reasonable than his original planned statement of “I accidentally ate a thunder-type crystal core.”

Su Shi blinked in surprise, and simply acquiesced to what the two had said. He raised his hand to take the bowl of soup, said thank you softly, lowered his head, and sipped the broth in small mouthfuls.

The hot soup slid down his throat and into his stomach, finally warming and filling his empty stomach.

Chapter 12 – Full Cooperation

On the way back to the An mansion, Li Rong kept trying to think up of an excuse. He finally fabricated a decent reason and said it out loud.

He had prepared his heart for rejection, but he was also determined to employ whatever means necessary to keep An Ji by his side.

An Ji just stood in front of him, his head slightly raised to look up at him. His hair looked so soft and the expression in his eyes was limpid. After a brief silence the youth parted his pink lips…

Li Rong sucked in a tense breath of air. His heart felt like it was suspended in midair. What was An Ji going to say? It must be a rejection. Surely.

“Okay.” An Ji said abruptly.

“Oh… okay?” Li Rong’s voice trembled. Cracks finally appeared in his calm façade.

During his long years of living he has experienced many spectacularly dramatic events, such as the scheming and fighting amongst imperial ministers, the covetousness of the federal government, and even a destructive enemy ambush during a military expedition…

No matter what happened, he would always remain calm and self-possessed, like a machine that never made mistakes.

Only at this moment, when An Ji said “okay” to him, did the regrets and misgivings of two lifetimes turn into joy in a split second. The rims of Li Rong’s eyes turned red as he reached out his hands to hug An Ji tightly to him.

To be in love with someone was to fall into hell from the slightest push and fly up to heaven in the next second. All because of one person.

So this was what it meant to place a man on a field of death and he will fight to live.

“Don’t lie to me…” Li Rong’s voice was low and hoarse. His arms tightened involuntarily, as if he wanted to embed An Ji into his body with great strength.

An Ji felt like all the air in his body was being squeezed out. He wheezed, “Why would I lie to you? Loosen up…”

An Ji felt really aggrieved.

He listened to Li Rong say that he was sick with a dazed expression. He watched Li Rong struggled for words with a dazed expression. And now he let Li Rong hug him with a dazed expression.

He really did not understand. He was already Li Rong’s established fiancé. Helping Li Rong with his illness was entirely within his line of duties as a fiancé. Was it necessary for Li Rong to have such an exaggerated reaction? Li Rong was acting as if An Ji had made a huge sacrifice, as if he was about to abandon everything and offer up his life in the next moment.

It was really ineffable.

Moreover, Li Rong was hugging him way too tightly. He could barely breathe. An Ji tried to adjust his posture, but it seemed as if Li Rong had misunderstood his movements as struggling and he hugged the youth even tighter.

An Ji: “…”

He really wanted to curse.

He was simply helping him treat his pheromone disorder. Did the man really have to act like An Ji was his savior or something?

Wait, savior? Could it be that Li Rong was already terminally ill?

An Ji’s eyes widened suddenly, and the doubts in his heart gradually became clear.

Terminally ill…

Yes, if he thought about this way then everything made sense!

No wonder Li Rong spoke as if he was about to die. No wonder Li Rong had such a big reaction after he agreed to cooperate with his treatment. No wonder Li Rong was hugging him so tightly right now. It was because he was afraid of An Ji running away.

He never knew that Li Rong was so seriously ill!

An Ji had mixed feelings in his heart. He patted Li Rong’s back reassuringly and said slowly, “What do you need me to do?”

“Any behavior of exchanging pheromones is fine,” Li Rong maintained their hugging posture and whispered in his ear, “such as holding hands, hugging, kissing, temporary marking, and lifetime marking.”

Such a primitive treatment method? Wouldn’t the efficiency be too low? Just how much pheromones could be exchanged through hugging and kissing?

An Ji frowned and suggested, “Can’t you extract some of my pheromones and keep it with you?”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Li Rong froze, then shook his head and said, “No good. People will find out.”

People will find out? So what if people found out?

An Ji did not react for a while, but he soon felt a sense of danger. Could it be that the opposition forces have already slipped in spies by Li Rong’s side?

That was indeed inconvenient. If they knew that Li Rong was so seriously ill then they would probably make a big fuss about it, or use this as an opportunity to force him to make mistakes, or even commit dangerous acts such as assassination.

“I understand.” In An Ji’s head a great big drama was already unfolding. Then, with a serious face he promised, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone else.”

Li Rong had come up with a whole slew of contingency plans. Now his head was full of question marks.

On the other hand, An Ji thought that Li Rong was still hesitant, so he added: “Call me when you need me. I will cooperate with you all the way.”

Cooperate all the way?

Cooperate with holding hands? Cooperate with hugging? Cooperate with kissing? Would he cooperate with temporary markings… or even a lifetime marking?

There was a bang in Li Rong’s head, as if thousands of fireworks were competing to explode in his mind, making his soul float.

Unbelievable. Was his wife this easy to pursue?

Chapter 132.1 – To Restore

At the end of the 27th year of Emperor Chongming

After discussing with Fu Wu Tian, An Zi Ran finally decided to return to Jun Zi City. Guan Su, Shao Fei and Zhong Yue left with them.

Guan Su didn’t want to stay in Ali Xiang anymore. He had been in Ali Xiang for several months. Shao Fei was someone who couldn’t stay idle for long, so he couldn’t stay either. Thus, the group of people went back in a grandiose manner.

An Zi Ran was thinking of sending someone to Ali Xiang to oversee everything after he went back to the capital. It wasn’t that he didn’t believe in Ta Li, but Ta Li was indeed too young, so An Zi Ran was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to continuously subdue the masses.

Fortunately, things were easier with the nomads. They considered each other as family after all. But it was different for the foreigners. Both sides hoped that the person sitting in the mayor seat could be their own, so the conflicting views between the two sides was still vaguely visible.

When they passed by An Yuan County, they stayed there for one night.

An Zi Ran could not avoid hearing about Zheng Bi and her daughter’s situation.

After they were evicted from the An family, the mother and daughter pair’s situation could be described with the idiom “can bu ren du,” a spectacle too horrible to endure.

Who knows how they’ve been living, it’s only been a few months, the two were once wealthy women, but now they’ve ended up in dire straits. They squandered the money that they got from selling the courtyard, and ended up spending everything in less than half a month.

The next day, the two women came knocking on the An family’s door.

Zheng Bi and her daughter naively thought that if they spent all their money then they could just ask the An family for more, but they didn’t know that An Zi Ran had already decided to sever all relationship with them the day that he kicked them out of the An family. So why would the An family still support them?

Thus, Steward Su rejected them and had the servants drive them out.

Zheng Bi and An Ke Xin were so angry that they came to the gate of the An family house everyday, and scolded An Zi Ran for having no conscience. They said he kicked them away as soon as he gained power, and all sorts of other unpleasant words. Shrews were still shrews.

Steward Su didn’t want to pay attention to them at first, but found that their words got more and more unpleasant, so he finally threatened to take back the house [that was given to them]. Only then did the two women exercise restraint, and afterwards Steward Su did not see them anymore.

Until half a month ago, someone said that they had seen them leaving An Yuan County with a man.

That man didn’t seem to be a good person.

As for the Lin family in Tong Tai County, they might have been afraid of revenge, or it might have been due to the incident with An Ke Xin, but after An Zi Ran left An Yuan County for Ali Xiang, the whole Lin family relocated.

Translations by Vanilla Muse.

Steward Su later learned that the Lin family actually intended to move their business away from Tong Tai County to a larger town for development. Lin Xin already had this idea before An Ke Xin had married into the Lin family. Rumor has it that Lin Xin only took his second and third concubine with him, and he divorced the fourth concubine.

“Steward, I didn’t expect you to be such a gossip.”

After listening to these words, An Zi Ran looked at Steward Su for a long time before opening his mouth to speak. He was really surprised.

Steward Su’s old face was embarrassed, “ Young Master, don’t get me wrong, I just paid attention to it habitually because it had some connection with the An family. There is absolutely no other meaning. But I do want to ask your opinion about something.”

“What is it?”

“It’s about the second young lady.”

An Zi Ran immediately guessed what he wanted to say, and said mercilessly: “There is no need to pay attention. They are already grown ups with their own thinking and judgment capabilities. If they are deceived, they can only be blamed for their own ignorance. Furthermore, they have already left the An family. Whether they are alive or dead has nothing to do with the An family.”

Steward Su thought for a while. Eventually his thoughts turned into a sigh. Thinking back, he had watched the second young lady grow up into an adult with his own eyes, and now he was also watching her fall from grace with his own eyes. He thought regretfully, things have remained the same, but people have changed.

“By the way, Young Master, there is something I want to discuss with you, it’s about the An family restaurant.”

“What about the restaurant?”

“We’ve opened five restaurants and the results are all good. So I discussed with Chef Wang and Zhou Lao Han’s wife some time ago. We were wondering if we could expand the restaurant business to the capital. What do you think?”

Translations are by vmnovels [dot] com, if you’re reading this anywhere else, then it was stolen.

Steward Su looked at him expectantly. Originally, he didn’t intend to touch the food industry, but now that he has made achievements, he wanted to expand the restaurant to various places. There was no shortage of money in the An family right now, so he wanted to try it.

“That’s possible, but Jun Zi City is not like An Yuan County. There is more competition there. At that time, we would need Zhou Lao Han’s wife and Chef Wang to join me in Jun Zi City.” An Zi Ran nodded.

Steward Su’s face lit up, “No problem. I have discussed with them already. Chef Wang accepted several apprentices some time ago, and all of them have inherited some of Chef Wang’s techniques and recipes. If we hand things over to them, there shouldn’t be much of a problem.”

“Then let’s do it like that. Is there anything else?”

“There’s nothing else for now.”
