Summary [from LC Read]
“Young master, this isn’t good, young miss left a letter and ran away from home.”
“The daughters of second and third mother still hasn’t gotten married yet.”
“That won’t do young master, in the past the one who the master choose for the engagement is the child of the first wife, the first young miss and the third young miss won’t do.”
An Ziran’s gaze suddenly shifted to his 4 months old younger brother for quite a while then said: “What about male?”
Butler: “……”
An Ziran didn’t think his own words would become a prophecy, man indeed can, but what he imagined is slightly different.

Summary [by polarbearadise]
The MC entered the body of the An family eldest son, An Ziran, an arrogant 16 years old boy who weighed 78 kg (~171-172 lbs), who only knew how to eat, play and sleep. Seeing his current body, An Ziran decided his first priority was to LOSE WEIGHT!
Three days later after he became An Ziran, An Ziran’s father and his biological mother died, which meant as the eldest son he had to take over the family business. Beside his legitimate first wife, An Ziran’s father also married 3 others women, who all wanted to take over the An family fortune but only the eldest son could be able to touch it, therefore they have to depend on An Ziran in order to live a comfortable live.
An Ziran’s father also had an older brother who is always planning to steal the An family fortune. The elder brother of An Ziran’s father and the woman he married had powerful connections. In order to save the An family fortune, An Ziran has to find a golden thigh to cling on. The butler told An Ziran that there is an engagement between the An family and an influential family. Therefore he takes his sister to that family house to make a connection.
However, during their journey, An Ziran’s younger sister overheard that the son of that family is UGLY, so as a beautiful and spoiled young lady coming from a rich household, she didn’t want to marry him and decided to run away. Without any other choice, An Ziran had to take his sister’s place and marry that man, who told him that he would let him go soon, but lied.

IMPORTANT Translator’s Note:

Hello, everyone. This is my first translation project ever. I have absolutely zilch experience in translating C-novels, so please keep your expectations low. I applied liberal use of the creative license to make the grammar flow better in English, so while I might be missing a word or two here and there from the original text, the general contents are still the same and should not affect the understanding of this story.

Also, this is just something I picked up on the spur of the moment for fun. I cannot promise that I will persist until the end of the novel, and I don’t have a set updating schedule, but I will do my best to translate as many chapters as possible for you to enjoy.

Also, please excuse me if I mess up the tenses often, because Chinese doesn’t differentiate between past and present tense, although I’m trying to keep everything consistently in the past tense. Just correct me if you notice a mistake I missed.

Chapter 15 – Conspiracy

“Annoying!”

With a wave of his hand, An Chang De sent the tea set on the table crashing to the ground. He was so angry that he became short of breath, his face flushed red, and his chest swelled violently. Just thinking of how An Zi Ran resolved the crisis, he beat the table in frustration.

Bang bang. The loud sound shocked both the wife and the concubine. When they entered, shards of porcelain and spilt tea could be seen all over the floor.

Wu Zhi liked this tea set. Immediately she scolded, “An Chang De, you’re dead. No matter how angry you are you can’t take it out on the tea set. Do you know how expensive this tea set is?”

An Chang De immediately simmered down. He grew awkward. Due to his moment of anger he forgot that this tea set was his wife’s favorite. Normally, they were unwilling to even use this tea set. If it wasn’t to show off to visiting guests so that they would not be looked down upon (for being cheap), she would not be willing to bring out this tea set.

[T/N: Is Chinese text always this repetitive? Enough about the tea set. It’s expensive. I get it. This repetition is hard on a first time translator, you know? And this repetition of facts continues throughout… T^T]

Wu Zhi saw that he was contrite, so she sighed once, took a seat and said, “Speak, what happened to make you so angry?”

She knew her husband would not get angry for no reason. Something big must have happened. Her tea set cannot be sacrificed in vain.
Translations by www.vmnovels.com
“Of course it’s because of that damn child of Chang Fu’s,” An Chang De cursed. He looked over and saw Wu Zhi giving him a meaningful look. Then he noticed Zhang Wan Qin was standing just outside the room. She was someone who’s quiet and knew her place, so other people often ignored her. What was said next could not be known to others, so he said, “Wan Qin, go see if Ming Rui completed the task for today. If not, go supervise him.”

Zhang Wan Qin was quiet, but she wasn’t stupid. Hearing him say that, she knew that whatever he wanted to say he didn’t want her to know. She didn’t say much, only obediently replying, “Yes, husband.”

Then she left.

Wu Zhi watched her leave and gave a cold laugh. Even though she didn’t like Zhang Wan Qin there’s not much she could do, because An Chang De liked her (Zhang Wan Qin) very much. In addition to having a soft character, she satisfied his vanity. Also, the second son, An Ming Rui, at the age of fifteen, was already a scholar. He failed the imperial exams, but he was only nineteen years old, he still had plenty of opportunities.

In contrast, her son, An Yao Zong, was a helpless fool. He was like the previous An Zi Ran, only knowing how to eat, drink, and play, with no interest in studying. Wu Zhi has always been angry. But hitting or scolding was useless and she was reluctant to fight her son. Hitting him would only make her feel miserable. If it wasn’t like this (because of her son), that mother and son pair (Zhang Wan Qin and An Ming Rui) would not be able to linger in front of her. But just wait. She wasn’t going to let that pair climb over her head.

“What did An Zi Ran do to make you this angry?”

As a woman, it was not appropriate for Wu Zhi to show her face in public, so she did not know that An Chang De went to see the county magistrate.

An Chang De immediately told her the ins and outs of what happened. Originally, he wanted to wait until his plan succeeded before telling her, so as to make her happy, but he did not expect to fail. An Zhi Ran, that pest, he was actually willing to part with those loans. It was absolutely unexpected.

Wu Zhi stood up with a look of disbelief. “What did you say? That brat nephew really gave up such a large sum of money? Not only that, he lowered the tenants’ rent from seventy percent to forty percent? Is this news for real?”

Even she did not believe that An Zi Ran would be so generous. The first thing that came to mind was that An Chang De was deceived.

“How could this news be false? Everyone is talking about this matter. They also said that An Zi Ran was a living Buddha, completely forgetting how Chang Fu was exploiting them when he lived!” Just speaking of this made An Chang De angry. The An family’s reputation has become good, now it would be even harder for him to take over.
You should be reading this on www.vmnovels.com
“When did that bastard become so smart? How could he be willing?”

Wu Zhi began to feel anxious. If she let An Zi Ran give away the family assets like that, even if they obtain the An family* it would just be an empty shell. What would be the point then? A bunch of shambles… they may lose money instead.

“Not good, not good. We must think of a way to obtain the An family* as soon as possible so that I can rest assured.”

[*T/N: They speak of wanting to obtain 安家 an jia, which translates directly as “An family.” I’m assuming this encompasses the family estate and monetary assets, but it’s too long of a phrase so I’m just sticking to “An family.”]

“My wife, do you have any ideas?” An Chang De knew that they could only count on Wu Zhi’s maternal family now. The county magistrate promised to help him last time, but if An Zi Ran used his father’s contacts, then the county magistrate might not help him if he did not have someone more influential to back him.

“Just you wait. I won’t let that bastard have it good.” Wu Zhi said with a calculative expression.

An Chang De felt relieved. With the help of his wife’s family, that An Zi Ran is sure to get it now.

War Prisoner

Genre: Drama, Historical, Romance, Yaoi

Summary [from NU]

Su Yi, the great general of Qi, was captured by enemy country’s army. Faced with the downfall of his country and interest from opposing country’s king, how will he react?

Personal Thoughts [spoilers in gray text]
My Rating: 3.75

The summary peeked my interest, but the “torture” and “rape” tag put me off this story for a long time. I eventually picked it up because I was in the mood for a historical setting. Truthfully, the rating should be lower, but this novel hit several of my meng points so I gave it a higher rating for personal enjoyment level. The two extras at the end of the novel was especially good imo.

The MC, Su Yi, did suffer through a lot of torture. It was to the point where I was wondering what kind of superhuman he must be to still be functioning after all that. But I think the author forgot to account for how battered the MC should be after the tortures he went through, instead focusing on his endurance and stalwartness. The author also glossed over the details of the tortures, which I am immensely grateful for, because I don’t like reading about that kind of stuff, especially when it’s happening to a good character. I might’ve DNF’ed the novel if the torture scenes were too graphic, but I persisted and things took a turn for the better after a dozen chapters.

Addressing the “rape” tag. There were only two instances in the entire novel where sex was described in detail. In the first scene (around chapter 12) the ML forces the MC to perform oral sex on him. This was the turning point where the ML started seeing the alluring charms of the MC and the novel switched onto the romance track. Although I cringed throughout, I did find the ML’s lust for the MC to be realistic. It wasn’t love that fueled him to rape the MC the first time (but I’ll get to the “love” part later). The second time sex happens is after the ML starts pursuing the MC in earnest and I would call the scene dubious consent. There were undertones of blackmail and “Is this rape? Is this not? It’s actually rape, right? Right.” Except the ML was very sweet and super attentive throughout the act and after, striking all my meng points, so I gave it a pass. I’m a sucker for dub-con in BL, but only if the gong is in love with and sweet to the shou. Also, the reluctance of the shou heightens the tension of the scene for me. Thumbs up for a sweet dub-con scene. [Yes, I am very aware that this is still rape in real life; so don’t pelt me with rotten vegetables. I know the line between fantasy and reality.]

The love of the ML for the MC was progressing realistically at first, from admiration for the MC’s integrity and endurance, to gradual interest in his physical body, before sliding into romantic inclinations. But once the ML realized he was falling for the MC it went from 0 to 110 (out of a scale of 100) and you’re left reeling a bit from the whiplash. The ML likes the MC for treating him as an equal and being honest with him, something that the ML lacked growing up as a crown prince, but his devotion to MC was way too deep in way too short a time. I think there needed to be either more time in between or one more big event happening to really push the ML to that level of devotion. Conversely, the MC’s feelings were more gradual. He starts with admiration for the ML’s capabilities as a ruler and softens over time from the ML’s doting and increasing gentleness.

One thing that I absolutely must give this novel credit for is the female cast. For a BL story there are quite a few reoccurring female characters with decent and impactful roles. (To be fair, my standards for female characters are pretty low when it comes to BL stories.) But I really like how 3D the antagonistic female character is. Her name is Zi Yan. For someone with the status of a maid I think she carries herself with a noble air. She has legitimate reasons for disliking the MC. During the war, the MC killed her brother, and now her emperor, the ML is starting to favor the MC, and she’s afraid that the MC will mislead her emperor because the MC is so loyal to his former country. She also doesn’t blindly hate on the MC. She is capable of acknowledging his good traits and even expresses admiration to the MC. She has always been straightforward in her intentions towards the MC, to the level of announcing it point blank to his face. (At the time the MC even welcomes it, because he was looking for a way to die. He couldn’t suicide for fear of the ML taking it out on the people of his country, so he wanted to borrow her blade to kill himself, so to speak.) Later she sees how deeply in love her emperor is and repents, trying to help the MC restore his glory instead. When her past treachery comes to light, some people might complain that she got off too lightly. I personally don’t have much of an opinion on how she should be punished, but since things turned out okay, I don’t think she deserves to die. (Although the MC really is a big softy. Makes one wonder how he lasted so long as a general in war.)

And while we’re on the topic, the MC is too much of a bleeding heart. Like seriously! I tend to like softhearted characters, but he’s a god damn general. That fought in a bloody war. I can understand caring for the men in his army (since he fought alongside them) and the common people of his country, but did he have to put himself on the line for a bunch of scholars that he didn’t even personally know? And they (the scholars) also knowingly committed treason. It would be well within the emperor’s (ML) right to execute them. MC standing up for the common people was because they’re innocent to political affairs and warfare, and therefore do not deserve to be treated unfairly just because their country is annexed by another, but the scholars knew what they were doing when they plotted a revolt and should therefore take responsibility for their actions. So much angst could’ve been prevented if the MC would just stop shouldering everything. I look at his bleeding heart and I’m like “Boy, sthap it. Think about your own welfare sometimes.”

While I’m complaining I should probably mention that broken leg and the healing method. First off, I’m not too clear on how the leg was broken or even what kind of injury it was. They said his knee (knees?) was ravaged, but afterwards it sounded like one of his femur or maybe tibia was broken. And then the injury was healed with magic ointment that causes excruciating pain during the absorption process. (-_-) Boy, you can’t fix broken bones with just cream, even if it has unicorn poop and fairy sparkles in it. (Okay, maybe that could work…) But you gotta reset the bone first! Like, was it just cracked? Yeah, I didn’t understand that part, but the technicalities weren’t the point, the leg injury was brought into the story purely for the angst factor. And then later it was to demonstrate the ML and MC’s love for each other during the healing process.

Now it’s time for me to sthap, because this review is getting way too long. But one last honorable mention for Wanyan Shou (the ML’s young son from the deceased crown princess when ML was not yet the emperor). He’s a devious silver-tongued devil, but he knows right from wrong so I really enjoy his character.

Watashi, Dokidoki Renai Kakumei de Onii-chan Yattemasu

Title: Watashi, Dokidoki Renai Kakumei de Onii-chan Yattemasu
(I Am Playing the Role of the Older Brother in Heartthrob Love Revolution)

Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Gender Bender, Harem, Romance, School Life, Shounen Ai

Summary [from NU]

I’m a very ordinary girl who had no interest in otome games, but was suddenly sucked into the world of a cliche Otome game, Heartthrob Love Revolution.

That’s all well and good, I’m not exactly thrilled, but it’s fine. However, why am I the heroine’s older brother? I’m a girl! My character is named Makoto, and as him I hang out with the Heroine to help her get together with the princely character and make it to the end credits.

All righty, I just need to support the Heroine while she does her best. If I do, I think I’ll be able to go back to my original world… but wait, why am I so popular? Hey, prince guy, don’t you blush at me!

Personal Thoughts [spoiler free]

This is a fun and easygoing read, although the story and plot itself is not that groundbreaking. It’s the typical shounen ai high school love story with competing love rivals. But the premise is kind of rare in that the protagonist is originally a girl, and she becomes a boy when she transfers over into the game world. The MC, Makoto, is a laidback girl but she’s kind of dense (about others’ feelings of attractions towards herself) and she still has some feminine thought patterns, which makes her internal dialogue fun to read when she is thrust into flag-rising events.

Her goal is to guide her sister and a capture target to a happy end in hopes that it might bring her back to the real world, so she gets really flustered and panicky when the capture targets are sticking to her (Makoto) more than the sister. I also really enjoy the sister (the original female protagonist of the game world). She’s not bratty, stupid, stubborn, or entitled. She’s a natural airhead and a brocon, and despite the “shounen ai” tag I find this girl adorable. Female characters in BL tend to be non-existent or villainesses so I appreciate that she’s a pure character.

There is also a rival character that fits the “villainess noble girl” trope at first, but she turns out to be a frank character with a tsundere personality, and becomes friends with both the MC and his sister, the FL. That’s refreshing. Honestly getting kind of bored of seeing two-dimensional villainess noble girls getting dragged through the mud.

At first I was iffy about the “multiple transported individuals” tag on NU, because I thought the capture targets might be transported individuals too, but it turns out the other transported person is the MC’s friend, Subaru, from the real world. Subaru is the one who created the game Heartthrob Love Revolution, and she is a fujoshi trying to guide our MC onto a BL route, I mean, guide him, er, her on the road home. Her omake chapters are hilarious, and when she starts having delusions about potential pairings… well, that’s what the R-15 tag is for.

The translations done by Nakimushi are especially good. Very easy to read and comprehend. She’s not a native Japanese speaker, but she makes the words flow and conveys the mood of the story. In some cases when the original author uses English in the Japanese text, the translator would substitute French or the like in the English text to give a similar feel.

If you happen to know of any gender bender stories where the girl actually becomes a guy (not just cross dressing), then please recommend the title to me!!
